WATSON Shady Cove -Trail The Charles McCann's have re ceived word of the death of their neice, Betty Ruth Dod son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Dodson of Golden, Colo. Mrs. Dodson, the former Ruth Herbert, is a sister of Mrs. McCann's and lived in Pros pect prior to her marriage 10 years ago. Jack Pfeifer, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Pfeifer, has'com pleted his Army duty at Ft. Lewis Wash., and has been discharged. Jack and his wife plan to take a trip to Canada and then to summer school at Corvallis. Both will teach in the Grants Pass High school this fall. Mrs. Carl Hanson of Shady Cove has rented- her house across from the mill to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dufur and chil dren. He is employed by Ted Jantzer of Trail. Some of the teachers from this area going to summer school at Southern Oregon college are Mrs. Art Hume and Gary Monical of Trail and SQUIRTS DANCERS Wolverhampton, England (UPD John Archibald Mac- Queen was $26 poorer today because he chose to fight rock 'n' roll with a garden hose. He was fined that amount because he broke up a" teen-agers' rec ord dance party in. the base ment of his apartment house by poking a hose through the window and flooding the place. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Callahan of Medford Sunday. Mrs. Frances Miller of Shady Cove planned to leave this week for Portland where she will spend two weeks vis iting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. an Mrs. Bud Decker. Phyllis Briggs of Shady Cove is employed at. Rogue Valley hospital, Medford. Lindy Langston of .Sacra mento, Calif., is expected to arrive some time next week to visit her grandmother) Mrs. Carl Hanson, of Shady Cove. The annual Garden club pic nic was held Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Strother of Shady Cove. A potluck supper was served to 27 members. Installation of officers was held. It was the last meeting of the season with the garden club adjourn ingfor the summer months. ' Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Culbert son, former residents of Shady Cove, who now live in Eu gene, are spending a few days in their house here. Mrs. Alma Lindquist is living with her son and daughter-in-law in Tiller. Cmdr. and Mrs. Charles Goebel of San Francisco, who are well known in the area, have arrived to stay at their cabin at Union Creek this summer. , Sisters from St. Mary's Academy, Medford, are teach ing catechism to Catholic chil dren for a two-week period. The course started Monday and will end June 20 it the Church hall in Shady Cove. First Communion services will be held on Sunday, June 22. Daily Vacation Bible school is being , held in the Trail Community church from June 9 until 20, from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Transportation is pro vided and anyone needing transportation may call Mrs. Lewis Dusenberry. Mrs. Troy Haynie and son, Troy, of Morgan Hill, Calif., have been spending a few days in the area visiting friends. They drove up to take Millie Haynie, who is attend ing SOC, home with them for the summer and also to at tend graduation exercises for Phyllis Briggs. The Haynies are former residents of Shady Cove. Rodney Collins of Indepen dence -has been visiting the Ben Nork family of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. William Miller of Trail have returned home from Beverly Hills, Calif., where they have been living since theif honeymoon to Hawaii. Mrs. Rod Perry of Trail en tered Rogue Valley hospital on Tuesday, where she will undergo surgery. Mrs. Carl Scott of Trail en tertained at her home with a birthday party honoring the 11th birthday of her daughter, Linda Scott. Her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Wagler, was co hostess. Games were played and refreshments served. Guests present were Linda and Glenda Albert, Peggy Dean Johnson, Cheryl Barlow, Judy Sanderson and Evelyn and Marie Oliver. Mr. and Mrs. Everard Brown and daughter, Sherry Ann of Shady Cove have re turned from San Jose, Calif. Their niece, Sherry Lynn Brown, accompanied them on the trip south and is staying there for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Spence and children of Elk creek, Trail, have moved to Mon trose, Colo. nesses conduct a study group Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tex Burnett in Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Warner of Bremerton, Wash., former residents of the area, visited Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Watson of Trail recently. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Collier of Eagle Point are parents of a' boy. He has been named Clifford Ellis. He weighed 9 pounds, 9 ounces. Paternal grandmother is Mrs. Albert Esten of Trail. Some of the local people at tending the Rose show in Med ford were Mesdames Ed Stro ther, Miles Williams, Floyd Kelley and Dick' Pfeifer of Shady Cove, and Albert Es ten, Roy Vaughn and Gay Gil lespie of Trail. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove made a week end trip to the coast recently. The Kelleys are rock hounds. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Stalk er of Shady Cove have re ceived word from their son, David Easley, who is station ed in the Marines at Camp Pendleton, Calif., that he is being transferred to Japan. . Mrs. Regina Torcher of Sac ramento, Calif., is spending a month visiting daughter, son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson of Trail. Other guests have been her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Torcher of Sacramento who spent a week end here recently. Mr. and ,Mrs. David Ber gren and children were in volved in a two-car accident June 7 when the truck in which they were riding was hit by another on the curve near Shady Cove. While in Shady Cove they were guests of Mrs. Robbins' brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Stelle. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Mareno of Eugene were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brewster of Trail. Mrs. Ivan Hale and chil dren, Carol and Kevin Hale, of Shady Cove, and her mother - in - law, Mrs. Mary Hale of Grants Pass left Mon day on a trip to Kelown'a, British Columbia, and plan to go into the Frazier River Can yon country. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shepherd and son, Danny, and Mrs. Shepherd's mother, Mrs. Lane, are visiting in Morro Bay, Calif. Joe Hal of Shady Cove is again confined to Rogue Val ley hospital for treatment and observation. At last reports .he was not allowed to have any visitors. Mrs. Glenn Anderton of Trail is also confined to Rogue Valley hospital where she underwent surgery last Friday. She also cannot have visitors yet. Mrs. Ray Briggs has return ed home from a two-day busi ness trip to Eugene. Mre. Etta Steen of Santa Barbara, Calif., stopped off here en route home from Vancouver,- B.C. where she had been attending a conference of health workers. She visited her sister, Mrs. Alberta Hughes, and niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Messecar of Trail. Mrs.' Hughes is now on a trip, visiting in Anaheim, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mes secar and will attend the grad uation exercises of her son, Albert Hughes, in Los Ange les June 13. He is to graduate from Los Angeles State col lege with graduation exer cises to be held in the Holly wood bowl. Meetings of the Shady Cove Trail Volunteer Fire depart ment are held starting at 7:30 p.m. at the fire hall the first and third Monday nights each month. The volunteer fire de partment could use more help. 'In case of fire that can be reported by. telephone the number to call in Shady Cove is listed at the top of the Shady Cove-Trail telephone section. The number is a dou ble line that rings both in the homes of Ray Chubbs and the Art Hutchinsons. In case of .inability to call to report a fire time may be saved by the informant ring ing the siren at the fire build ing. Mrs. Dale Sawyer of Shady Cove has gone on a trip to Long Beach with Dale's sister, brother-in-law and Mr. and Mrs. Kellar Hutton, who have been visiting in the area with the Dale Sawyer and Jim I air does another job, too.
