Von McDaniel Dropped To B St. Louis (UPI) Von McDaniel has dropped an other rung on the baseball ladder one year after he made his major league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals. Optioned to Houston of the Texas league last month by the. Cardinals, the 19-year-old right-hander was transferred Friday to Winston-Salem of the Class B Carolina league. McDaniel, signed to a $50,000 bonus contract by the Cardinals, made his major league debut against the Phil adelphia Phillies on June 13, 1957. He won his first game three days later against the Dodgers and finished his rookie year with a 7-5 record. BOLT HITS SUNNY SKIES Ruidodo. N. M. LA Dodgers Trade Hevcombe to Reds Los Angeles (UPI) The Los Angeles Dodgers came up with a major deal only 62 minutes before the deadline on the West Coast when they sent pitcher Don Newcombe to the Cincinnati Redlegs for first-baseman Steve Bilko, pitcher Johnny Klippstein and cash. Newcombe, a 27-game win ner in 1956 hadn't won a sin gle game this year for the Dodgers. Report that Newcombe was trade bait have recurred fre quently since the Dodgers picked up and moved to the West Coast. ' As part of the deal, Cincin nati optioned pitcher Charlie Rabe to the Dodgers' Montreal club of the International league. Pitcher Don Bessen was placed on Los Angeles' dis abled list at the same time. He has a sore arm. In Sunday's action, league leading Montreal won a douhleheader from Miami, 7-2 and 9-4; second-place Toronto took two from Havana, 7-3, and 91; third-place Rochester swept Richmond, 6-2 and 5-1; and Buffalo defeated Colum bus, 4-1, in the nightcap after the Jets took the opener, 6-2.
