A Qi ocoIatfT!aIce Of GrSt Renown Destined to become a gastronomic classic is German's Chocolate Cake a recipe that has swept across the country with incredible speed. Is it the rich, chocolate-y layers, the mouth-watering frost ing', or the inimitable combination of both that make it so univer sally popular? Whatever the reason, once made, youH everlastingly cherish this recipe for German's Chocolate Cake. German's Chocolate Caka 1 package sweet cooking l teaspoon vanilla chocolate 2-12 cups sifted cake flour 12 cop boiling water 1 teaspoon baking soda i cup Duner, margarine, or lz teaspoon salt 1 cup buttermilk 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten other shortening 2 cups sugar 4 egg yolks, unbeaten -Melt chocolate in 12 cup boiHng water. Cool. Cream batter and ugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each. Add vanilla and melted chocolate and mix until blended. Sift flour with soda and salt Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition until batter is smooth. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour batter into three 8- or 9-inch layer pans, lined on bottoms with paper. Bake in moderate oven (350F.) for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool. Frost top and between layers with Coconut-Pecan Filling and Frosting. Coconut-Pecan Frosting Combine 1 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup sugar, 3 egg yolks, 14.. pound margarine, and 1 teaspoon vanilla in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat 12 minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture thick ens. Remove from heat. Add about 1-13 cups flaked coconut and 1 cup chopped pecans. Beat until cool and of spreading consistency. Makes enough to cover tops of three 8- or 9-inch layers, or tops and sides of two 9-inch layers. Gem Club Plans Show This Month Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral club of Medford will meet Wednesday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Redmen hall, Fourth and Apple streets. This will be the last meeting before the show which will be held at the McLaughlin Junior High school June 20 and 21. Birthstone of the month is pear and moonstone. The dis play at the U.S. National bank has been replaced with spei mens from the museum oper ated by Delmar Smith, Cen tral Point. All persons interested -in gems and minerals are invited to attend the meeting. Garden Buffet It's a good idea to place the garden bufet table against a wall. Flowers or other table decoration can be a flat ar rangement on wall or close to wall; takes up little room, gives a dramatic effect, isn't so likely to blow away. Session Scheduled By Women's Club Scottish Rite Women's club will meet Monday, June 9, at 8 p.m. in the Medford Masonic temple. ' Hostesses will be Mrs. H. C.
