Butte Falls Church The monthly fellowship meeting of Assembly of God churches in the Rogue Valley section will be held at Butte Falls Assembly Monday, June 9, according to the Rev. Church of Christ Plans Bible School The Church of Christ, 1701 West Main st.,. will start its vacation Bible school Mon day, June 16 through June 20. Classes for two-year-old chil dren through high school age will be held daily from 9 to 11:30 a.m. There will be hand work, filmstrips and a Bible- centered program of study. Friday, June 20, the stu dents will participate in an achievement program, which will be followed by open house. New Assistant To Speak Sunday At Friends Church Robert Smith, new pastor will bring the message at the 8 p.m. worship service at the Friends church Sunday. Mr. Smith was graduated last week from George Fox college, Newbeg, and came Wednesday with his wife and two small sons to Medford to assume the assistant , pastoral duties for the sum met months. The congregation gave a reception and pound shower for the Smiths follow ing the mid-week prayer meeting Wednesday evening. Another feature of the serv ice Sunday at 8 p.m. will be the awarding of the trophy to the high school girls' volley ball team, champions in the church league tournament sponsored by the YMCA. Church to Honor Methodist Pastor Talent A fellowship sup per and reception for the . pastor,, Miss Alice May Woolley, of Talent First Methodist church, will be. held Friday, June 13, at 6:45 p.m. at Ihe church. Miss Woolley, who has been pastor of Ihe church for the past 13 years, will leave for a new church af ter June 15. She will be as signed at the annual Meth odist church conference scheduled June 20. All interested persons are invited to attend the pot luck supper or to stop by during the reception. Pastor Observes 30 Years in Ministry The Rev. Elvin S. Tollef- son, pastor of Ascension Lu therarr church, will speak on Behold, What Manner of Love" at the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday. The choir will sing "Almost Persuaded. The Sunday theme was the one assigned Mr. Tollefson by the faculty of Luther Theo logical seminary, St. Paul, Minn., for his senior gradua tion sermon. He has been in the ministry for 30 years as of Sunday. Mr. Tollefson will leave Sunday from Portland to at tend the general convention of the Evangelical Lutheran church in Minneapolis June 18 through 24. En route he will stop at a former parish, Poison, Mont., then continue to Stanley, N.D., where, he will preach the 50th anniver sary sermon in the iiniie River Lutheran church. He plans to return to Med ford June 27. Richard Melum will be in charge of the local church services during the pastor's absence. Methodist Youth Attend Retreat The Methodist Senior High Youth Fellowship will be at Dead Indian camp over the week end in a planning con ference for- the year's pro grams. Both the old and new officers will attend. Dr. and Mrs. Verne Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Igo, Dolf Bills, Mrs. Hazel Maxon and Mrs. Geneva Schwan will be advisors and instructors. Turning the first shovelfuls Local Pathfinders To Conduct School The Medford Pathfinder club has been chosen to con duct Sabbath school services June 7 at the statewide 'camp oree to be held at Fall River camp, near Bend. Approximately 500 Oregon Pathfinders .with Union and Conference youth leader will attend the three-day camp The group will be divided in to units of not more than eight members, supervised by experienced counsellors. Each unit will set up their own camp, and do their own cook ing while in attendance. First scheduled event will be Vesper services around the campfire Friday night, The entire group will meet for Sabbath school and church services Saturday, and an afternoon of nature study has been planned, culminat ing in evening campfire songs and stories. Events scheduled for Sun day will include contests be tween clubs from different lo calities, including building fire, by, friction, flapjack flip ping, and "Trust Your Knot. The latter involves six Path finders from each competing club. They must tie a series of ropes together with vari ous knots, including the bow line, sheet bend, square, fish erman's and sheep shank, in a period of two minutes or less. The first rope is secured to one Pathfinder's waist, and the knots must hold while he is pulled a distance of 10 feet while seated on a blanket. Forty-five Pathfinders with their directors and counsel lors left Medford this morn ing for the camp, and will re turn Sunday night. Chapel Dedication Held Last Sunday . Eagle Point A new chapel and banquet hall on the Mil lard ranch, 17 miles north of Medford on Hammel rd., were dedicated with services Sunday. Pastor of the church is the Rev. D. E. Millard. . The building is constructed of pumice brocks and of Span ish design. The chapel and banquet room are each 20 feet by 40 feet and are located on a bluff overlooking the river The n o n d e n ominational church is part of a larger project to be known as the Millard Research Foundation. According to - Mr. and Mrs Millard, it will work in the field of health as it applies to body, mind, and spirit. Sermon lectures will be given monthly with the first one scheduled for Sunday, June 29, at 2:30 p.m. It will follow a fellowship dinner at noon. Mr. Millard, head of the foundation, reported that "the church will be known as "The New Age Church" and is the first step in a much larger program of educational and humanitarian work. Friends Church To Schedule School Daily vacation Bible school will begin Monday at the Friends church, to be held for two weeks each, day, Monday through Friday, from 9 till 11:30 a.m. 'Two buses will provide transportation each day. A large tent on the church property will provide space for junior and interme diate handcraft projects and for opening assembly. Children from four years old through eighth grade graduates are invited to at tend. , Theme will be "Explor ing God's Wonders," and there will be classes in Bible study, scripture memory, mu sic and handcrafts. The daughter of Groundbreaking He Id bv " Excavating, began Monday June 2 for the new Medford Seventh-day Adventist church to be located at the corner of Ellendale and Crestbrook rds Church pastor, John D Trude, his small daughter, Debbie, and Mrs. Alvy Bow man united in lifting the first of dirt, signifying that the building s to be accomplished by the united efforts of clergy and laymakers, and will in clude men, women and chil dren. According to Oral W Tucker, chairman of the build ing committee, the new church will be constructed with two floor levels, and will have a seating capacity of 600. Sf. Peter Sets Bible School for June 16 St., Peter Evangelical Lu theran church, .1020 East Main st., will conduct a vaca tion Bible school from June 16 through 27, according to Ralph Brock, chairman of the board of education. The ages for the children attending start with four years and go through high school. Bible stories and songs, handicraft and group projects, as well as training in worship and prayer will constitute the chief activities of the school. Seminarian Daniel Houg- um, trom Concordia semi nary, St. Louisj will be on the teaching staff, in addition to the members of the local con gregation. Mr. Hougum will be met in Portland by the pastor of the congregation, and accompany the Korby's from Portland next week. He is scheduled 'to work in tne Medford congregation during the summer months. This is part of his field work train ing in preparation for the holy ministry in the Luther an church Missouri Synod. . Children of the community, who have no Bible school of their own, are invited to at tend St. Peter even though they are not members of the congregation. Guest Missionary To Speak at Church Central Point 'The vaca tion Bible school for children four years old and up will be gin Monday, June 9, at 9 a.m. at Central Point Community Bible church. The sessions will continue until 11:30 a.m. each Monday through Friday for two weeks. Miss Ilia Mae Higinbotham is in charge. The Sunday school buses will follow the regular routes and provide transportation for the children. Mrs. Lillian Ekstedt, mis sionary to the iNetnerianus West Indies, will be the guest speaker at the evening serv ice at the church. Mrs. Ekstedt. with her hus band, went to the mission field in 1938. At the present time they are engaged in evangelistic work using a tent for their meeting place. Mr. and Mrs. Ekstedt are serving under the auspices of the Evangelical Alliance mis sion with headquarters in Chicago. Sunday at the 11 a.m. wor ship hour, the pastor, the Rev. Paul O. Guetzlaff will leave Medford Monday for Portland to attend the 40th convention of the North west District of the Lutheran church Missouri Synod. The pastor and lay delegate will represent St. Peter Evan gelical Lutheran church at the five-day convention, June 9- to 13. They will reveiw fi- nancial affairs of the church body, lay plans for increased mission and charity activity, and consider doctrinal and other spiritual matters. One hundred seventy-five congregations in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alas ka comprise the Northwest district. Reports on the in ternational mission program of the Lutheran church Mis souri Synod will be present ed by Dr. John W. .Behnken of St. Louis, Mo., president of the 2,351,805-member church body. Meeting on the campus of Concordia college in Port land, Northwest Lutherans also will consider resolutions concerning the Lutheran World Federation, the issu ance of a new handbook, the practice of holy communion, and modernizing the business functions of church adminis tration, Pastor and Wife To Quadrennial Meet The Rev. and Mrs. Sher man Moore, accompanied by their children, left Wednes day for Winona Lake, Ind., where they will attend the quadrennial conference of their denomination as minis terial and lay delegates of the Pacific Northwest district of the Pilgrim Holiness church. Lessons for the course are undenominational in scope and enrollment is open to any child in the 5-to-10 age group, Anyone interested in enroll ing a child may call Mrs. Bed- doe at SPring 2-7489. : Congregational Has New Schedule The Congregational church will change Sunday to its summer schedule with the morning worship and church school both being held at only one hour, 10 a.m. This time of service has been used the last two summers and has proved very acceptable to the congregation. The sermon by the Rev, Thomas McCamant will be on "The Love of God in Christ. The choir - anthem will be "How Beautiful Upon the Mountains." A program of property im provement is in progress look- ing toward the beautification and utilization of the whole four acres. A youth work party Saturday will pick up sticks and stones so that mowers can be used ' to keep the grass down in the natural parts of the grounds Former Missionary Summer Assistant The Rev. ; and Mrs. Walter C. Morris arrived today from Oceanlake to serve the con gregation of the First Church of the Nazarene in the capac ity of assistant to the pastor during the summer months. Mr. Morris, who s retired last summer from the active ministry, has served a num ber of posts in his denomina tion. After serving many years as missionary to China, Mr. Morris became pastor of the Olivet College church in Kankakee, 111. He has been temporary pastor at the Mt. Pitt Avenue Church of the Nazarene since February of this year. The evening service "will be held at 7:30, beginning with a song service followed by the sermon and invitation.
