Usual Fanfare Scheduled For Three TV Networks By WILLIAM EWALD United Press International New York (UPI) I've been looking over the tenta tive fall schedules of the three networks and I find they con tain the usual fare Westerns, situation comedies, quizzes. Frankly, the situation dis turbs me. But I don't think the season has to fall into the same old rut a few new pro gram ideas would fix things up fine. "The Awards Show" an entry that would take care of all the trophies, plaques, med als, statues, certificates, rib bons, decorations, garlands, crowns, citations, honors, titles, cups, saucers and gold records ordinarilv bestowed upon performers each week on their own programs. "The Coniing Attractions Theatre" This one would be a drama show made up of all those scenes played at the end of "Playhouse 90," "Cli max" and "Studio One" that capsulizes what's coming up the following week. They're usually the best part of the upcoming script anyhow. "The Vaughn Monroe Show" one half-hour of Monroe dropping radios. "The Plug Show" in which stars would parade on the stage to puff their latest movies, books, plays and to make jokes about commercial products that aren't their sponsors's. I see Bob Hope as emcee. "The Sound Track Show" made up of the greatest canned laughs from filmed situation comedies. "The Egghead Show" Ital ian and! Japanese movies. I should explain that it was all caused by Perry Como who misread his cue cards. "The Stars Strike Back Show" in which TV critics poke their heads through a 21-inch hole while performers throw typewriters at them. I see this as spectacular. Short Shots: It-was-bound-to-happen dept.: Tuesday night a contestant . on NBC-TV "Treasure Hunt," a citizen of New York, won an all-expenses-paid trip to New York . . . Debbie Reynolds, who guested on the NBC-TV "Eddie Fisher Show" Tuesday night, blotted out her hus band. Oscar Levant was on hand, too, and I must say it's satisflying to watch a dis ruptive force at work in a show ordinarily made up of milk-and-water . . . Margaret Truman turned in a charm ing guest stint with Johnny Carson on the NBC-TV "Jack Parr Show" Tuesday night poised, assured and non-giggly. The channel swim: Larry Hagman, Mary Martin's . son, has been added to the cast of the June 12 CBS-TV spec, "Member of the Wedding" . . . Pat Weaver, former presi dent of NBC, will shoot the pilot film of a projected new TV series, "Are You a Star," in Manhattan next Monday Jim Backus stars. CBS-TVs One Hour Musi cal spec based on "Little Wom en" has been slotted for Oct. 16 ... O. Henry's "Gift of the Magi," another CBS-TV musical spec, is now set for Dec. 9 . . . The tentative cut off date for the ABC-TV "Pa trice Munsel Show" now is June 13 Miss Munsel ex pects a baby in September. ABC-TV will move a Los Angeles show, "Stars of Jazz," into the Monday night "Voice of Firestone" spot for the summer beginning June 9 . . . Ed Sullivan will film an in terview with King Baudouin of Belgium for his June 15 CBS-TV show which will cen ter around the Brussels World's Fair. Mutual Radio will kill off all 10 of its mystery and ad venture shows as of June 9 and go in heavily for news programming. It marks the end of a 24 year network of policy of drama programming Johnny Carson turned down the emcee job of the planned ABC-TV comedy-panel show, "Laughline" Alan Young finally got the' job. Coulee Dam City Sale Underway Coulee Dam (UPI) The federal government Monday began selling the city of Cou lee Dam, which has been un der federal control for more than 20 years. Residents of the town which lies below Grand Coulee dam on both sides of the Colum bia river, will be given first priority on purchase of resi dential and commercial pro perty. Postmaster Clarence Seaj-s was the first to buy his home in the federal sale. That sale was handled by P. R. Nalder, Columbia basin project man ager for the reclamation bur eau. The Federal Housing Ad ministration has appraised the homes at $1,500,000, while individual prices range from $1200 to $11,000.
