Mrs. Bostwick was one of the principal state witnesses in the trial that ended in the conviction of Lee Parker here recently and her public con fession of perjury was made in the first degree murder trial of Harold Keith. Both Keith and Parker are charged with the body-in-the-well slay ing of Robert Holloway. Park er was convicted of second de gree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. The Bostwick woman told the jury Tuesday that she had lied in the Parker trial when she testified Parker had told her details of the Holloway: Presbyterian. Elders Mark Church Union Pittsburgh (UPI) Two long columns of Presbyterian elders will march toward each other down a tree-lined street today and converge into a single procession. By this symbolic act, two major Presbyterian bodies will merge to form the United Presbyterian church in the USA with 9,462 local congre gations and more than three million members, it will be the nation's fourth largest Protestant denomination. The merger brings togeth er the Presbyterian church in the USA, a 170-year-old de nomination which includes President Eisenhower among Presbyterian church of North America, a 100-year-old de nomination whose member ship is concentrated in Penn sylvania and Ohio. Contract Awarded For Wasco Dam Work Portland (UPI) The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $231,270' contract to C. H. Strong Engineering and Construction company of Eugene for construction of Wasco dam and associated works, initiating work on the Wapinitia project in Oregon. Wasco dam, on Clear creek in the Deschutes river water shed, will provide irrigation water' to serve some 1200 acres of irrigated lands now inadequately watered, the bu reau said. The contract calls for con struction of an earth dam 415 feet long at the crest and 46 feet high. She said Tuesday that he had told her only that he might be a prime suspect. She said she made up her story after a police officer told her she might be charged as an accessory to the crime un less she told all she know. She admitted, however, that police had not used threats to draw her story from her. Before Mrs. Bostwick was called by the defense Tuesday, Keith had testified most of the day in his own behalf. He told the jury that Parker and Hol loway had fought near his home at Vernonia and that he had later found Holloway un conscious. Holloway's body was later iouna in a wen on a Vernonia area farm. The two denominations held separate general assem blies here Tuesday. Today's joint procession, beginning at 9:50 a.m. (EDT) marked the opening of their first general assembly as a united church ine program called for a simple and solemn ceremony, in keeping with Calvinist tra dition. The procession of !, 200 commissioners, including teaching elders" ordained ministers in black Geneva gowns and "ruling elders" laymen in Sunday suits, was austere Tesoyterian con science would permit. Because no church in the area offered a large enough seating capacity, the Presby terians borrowed a huge Shriner s temple, Syria Mos que, ior tne merger proces sion and the service of Holy r y ? pit i t-umniuiiioii ioiiowing n. At its first business session this afternoon, the assembly will elect a moderator, or pre siding officer, for the united church. The merger officially heals a rift that began in Scotland more than 200 years ago when dissident groups called the "seceders" and "the Cov enanters" split off from the Church of Scotland.
