Miller, lias resigned as pastor of First Southern Baptist church. Mr Miller came to Medford in April, 1957, and while here has also served was a volun tary counselor for Jackson county juvenile department. The Millers will go to Cali lornia where they will attend college. Mr. Miller plans to take studies in the field of ocial welfare and Mrs. Miller will complete the necessary Vork to be certified as teach er in the public schools. One of the newest phases of the work of the Home Mis sion Board of the Southern Baptist convention is in the field of family problems aris ngi from dvorce and juvenile delinquency under its city mission program. Miller states that he wishes to enter this type of minstry. The Millers will be in Med ford until June. Methodists, Plan Smorgasbord Tonight in Church "Three Great Events" is the asrmon topic as announced by Dr. George G. Roseberry of Urst Methodist church. This i Pentecost Sunday by the Aistory of the church as well being Memorial Sunday. ?fote will be made of all the members who have passed way during the past year. 0 The coffee hour will be held at the close of the 11 a.m. service in honor of the Rev. George Trobough family who will be leaving Medford. Their new church work will be announced at the farewell fellowship hour Sunday fol folinw the worship services. Mr. Trobough has been as sociate minister at First Meth odist church for the past two years. He has had charge of the religious education pro gram of the church and has carried on an extensive tele vision and radio program in representing First church and the Medford Ministerial as sociation. Church Delegates Return From Meet The delegates from the Congregational church of Medford returned Thursday from the annual meeting of the Congregational Confer ence of Oregon, which was held in the new building of the Eugene church. Those who attended all or part of the sessions were Mrs. C. D. Elhart, Mrs. Clarence Miller, Richard Hahselman ind the Rev. Thomas McCam tnt. High points of the con ference were the election of 3Dr: A. J. Buttrey of Grand Jlapids, Mich., as the confer ence minister and superin tendent, beginning next Jan nary, and Mrs. F. L. Van Joczer of Portland as the Tiw moderator. The delegates will report Sfiefly some highlights of the ' conference at the two services xt the Medford church Sun day. Activities for the afternoon will include swimming, boating, water ski ing and horseshoes. Mass will be read by one of the priests from the Med ford Sacred Heart Catholic church, officials said. The Sunday evening Mass will be held each Sunday throughout the summer months it was reported. Presbyterians Announce Topics And Activities Sunday at both morning worship services of the First Presbyterian church, the Rev. John O. Reynolds will preach in the absence of Dr. D. Kirk land West, pastor of the church. Mr. Reynolds will preach on the topic, "The Church's Unity and Power in the Spirit." At the 9:30 ajn. serv ice the, Westminster choir will ing an anthem and at the 11 a.m. service the chancel choir will sing "Create in Me a Clean Heart, O. God." Mrs. E. W. Sickles will sing the solo "There Is No Death" at both services. The. Senior High Westmin ster fellowship will meet at 4:30 p.m. for a joint meeting with the youth group of St. Mark's Episcopal church. The combined groups will go to Black Oaks for recreation and worship. Junior High fellow ship of the church will meet at 6:30 p.m. for its regular Sunday evening fun time and discussion. Seventh and eighth grade young people are in vited to attend. Dr. and Mrs. West left this week for their annual month's vacation. During their trip, Dr. West will attend the meet ings of the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. at Pittsburgh, Pa., May 28 through June 4. During the assembly meet ing the merger of the Presby terian Church in the U.S.A. and the United Presbyterian church will take place to form the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Festival of Pentecost At St. Peter Church St. Peter Evangelical Lu theran church, 1020 East Main st., will celebrate the Festival of Pentecost at the service Sunday morning, ac cording to the pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Korby. The choral communion service will begin at 11 a.m. At the service the cherub and junior choirs will sing, "Holy' Ghost With Light Di vine, Shine Upon This Heart of Mine." The pastor will preach on the Spirit's work to make Christ alive in us as God's answer to all our spir itual needs. CATHOLIC STATISTICS New York W The Catholic church in the United States, Alaska and the Ha waiian Islands has grown from 26,075,697 members 10 years ago to 36,023,977, the Catholic director of 1958 showed yes terday. The largest arch dioceses in the country are Chicago, Boston, New York and Philadelphia. Ashland The Rev. Ross Knotts will speak Sunday at 11 a.m. at First Methodist church, Ashland, on "We Can't Keep Quiet." OFFICERS Four officers of the Oregon Pacific District Nazarene Foreign Mission ary society and of the District assembly met with Dr. D. I. Dagwell, D.D., will ad dress the people of the Dio cese in a farewell message from St. Stephens cathedral, Portland, Wednesday, May 28, at 7:30 p.m. His message 1st Baptist Youth Schedule Play At Camp White Vacation Bible school for pre-schoolers, ages 3 through 6 years, will continue through Thursday, May 29, at First Baptist church. The program for the kindergarten ages will be given at 11 a.m., Thursday, the closing day of the school. Parents of the children are invited to attend the presen tation of the things learned by-the youngsters during the school sessions. Senior high young people of the church will present a three-act play, entitled "But This I Know'-to the men at the Camp White domiciliary Sunday at 6 p.m. The play, which is in a modern-day set ting and based upon the story of the resurrection, has been given by the young people in the Medford church, at the Ashland First Baptist, and at the Sams Valley Community church. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wilson direct the play, and young people in the cast are Don Tinseth, Dean Goddard, Bob Young, Bill Young, Bobbie Jean Hale, Terrie Hughes, Nicky de Place, Mary . de Place and Marilyn Zimmers. First Assembly Tells Of Scheduled Events The Rev. N. D. Davidson, superintendent of the Oregon Assemblies of God, will be guest speaker at First -Assembly of God church, 1108 West Main st., Sunday at 7:30 p.m., according to the local pas tor, the Rev. R. E. Cull. Mr. Davidson, who maintains of fices at Salem, is conducting a tour of southern Oregon As semblies. Monday at 7:30 p.m., First Assembly will be host church to the Rogue Valley sectional rally of Chrisi Ambassadors. Youth delegations from as far as Cave Junction and Pros pect will participate. Speaker for the evening will be the Rev. Leland Keys, president of Bethany Bible college, Santa Cruz, Calif. During the service the Bethany Bible college choir of 40 voices will present sacred numbers. The Rev. Forrest Biser will di rect the choir. Pl H 4 few' Vi' -f CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council will be received by closed radio hook-up in 55 separate areas of the state where church people will gather for dinner and to bid farewell to the Bishop. In the course of the program a gift from the Diocese will be presented to the Bishop. ' The congregation of St. Mark's Episcopal "church, Medford, will participate in this diocesan-wide observance with a potluck dinner at the Guild hall at 6:30 p.m. All members and friends of . the church are invited to attend. Children old enough to un derstand and appreciate the nature of the program may attend. There will be -baby sitting service in the Markade for younger children. No charge will be made for this event. Friends Choirs To Give Concert At the Friends church Sun day at 7:30 p.m., the junior; youth and adult choirs will present a brief concert of fa vorite anthems used during the winter months. No regu lar choir rehearsals will be, held during the summer, so this will be the last appear ance of the combined choirs until September. Pastor Clynton Crisman will speak at both morning worship services, 9:45 and 11 a.m., and at the 7:30 p.m. service following the music by the choirs. His subjects will be "Christ. Our Peace" and "The Church, a Holy Temple," from the Book of Ephesians. Junior church, will be held at 11 a.m. and a nursery is provided during both morn ing worship hours? Sunday school will be at 9:45 and 11 a.m., Christian Endeavor and adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m., and "Quaker Hour" broadcast at 9:30 p.m. over KMED. McGraw Jr., Clackamas, district superin tended, who reported to the assembly Wednesday; Mrs. Gordon Olson, Eugene, newly elected president of the Society; and Mrs. Roscoe Hohn, Ashland, secretary of the society. Nearly 500 delegates registered for the conventions. . In the closing service of the Oregon Pacific District As sembly of the Church of the Nazarene one pastor was or dained to the ministery of the church. The vowes of eld er were given by Dr. D. I. Vanderpool, general superin tendent, to the Rev. Don. B. Fivecoat, minister of the New berg church. The candidate was presented to the general superintendent by the Rev. Bertand F. Peterson, district secretary, minister of the church at Oregon City. The ordination followed the ser mon which was given by Dr. Vanderpool. Final business of the annual assembly concluded the elec tion of an advisory board com posed of the Rev. Vernon Wil cox, Portland Moreland church, the Rev. Duane E Muth of Salem First church, and laymen, Gordon T. Olsen, Eugene, and Roy E. Edwards, Hood River. The Rev. Raymond W. Hum was elected to a three year term on the district church school board and the Rev, Bertrand F. Peterson was re elected district secretary with Paul E. Knapp elected dis trict treasurer. The important ways and means report was . adopted unanimously by the assembly, Major items included $25,000 for the district budget with $17,522 set for a home mission budget and education budget and $18,000 was adopted for Northwest Nazarene college The Nazarene Milister Benev olence fund voted $12,000 with a general budget of $55,- 000 adopted. , Goals for the coming year included six new Home Mis sion churches organized dur ing the 50th anniversary year Pentecost Sunday At First Nazarene Pentecost Sunday will be celebrated in Nazarene churches Sunday. The 120 local members of First Church will gather at 6:30 a.m. Sun day for a special prayer meet ing to duplicate the tradition al number who were present on the Day of Pentecost. Dr. D. I. Vanderpool, gen eral superintendent, will speak in the morning worship service at 10:50 a.m. Dr. Van derpool, who joined the Naz arene church in 1913, has served as a general superin tendent since 1949. Centra! Point Topics Announced by Pastor Central Point The Rev. Mr. Jean M. Shelley will speak Sunday at both the 10:45. and 7:30 p.m. services at Church of Christ, Central Point. The morning service, - en titled "The New Testament Church,. Its Origin", will be in memory of the church. The church dates its start . with Pentecost 30 A.D., at Jeru salem. The evening sermon will bei "Three Christians." Methodists To Honor Associate Pastor, Family Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Thomp son Jr. are chairman of the smorgasbord to be held at the First Methodist church tonight from five until eight o'clock. The menu will include bak ed ham, meatballs, pickled herring and salmon with a various of other foods also be ing served. During the hours that din ner will be served entertain ment will be provided in the main sanctuary of the church. The events will start at 5:30 o'clock with "The MedTones," followed by a humorous read ing by Dr. Eugene Ray. The public is invited to attend. First Christian Tells Schedule Mrs. Ralph Ma tlack will be the soloist at the First Chris tian church Sunday morning. She will sing "In My Father's House Are Many Mansions." The choir under the direction of Warren - Fairbanks will sing the anthem "O Blessed Spirit." The Rev. William C. Piper has chosen for his morning sermon, "Remembrance." At the evening service he will speak on the subject "What the Apostles Meant by the Church." WALDEN Sing with Group Quartet To Sing At Apostolic Faith The Harmonaires male quartet, from the headquart ers church of The Apostolic Faith church, Portland will be heard at the local church, Third St. and Central ave., Sunday. They will sing in the morn ing service and will furnish the program preceding the even evangelistic service. The group will also appear at a combined young peole's meet ing in the Apostolic Faith church, Grants Pass at 3 p.m. with the young people of the Medford church. They will also be featured on the Apos tolic Faith radio program on KMED at 8:15 Sunday morn ing. The Harmonaires were or ganized five years ago in Port land under the direction of William Walden. Mr. Walden has recently been . appointed director of music for the Med ford church. This left, a Vac ancy in the quartet which has been taken by Don Wolfe, formerly music director of the Medford church. Mr. Walden will sing with the group on this trip. The quartet consists of: Ethan Ewers, first tenor; Mr. Walden, second, tenor; Clarence Stelle, baritone; and Clifford Metzenberg, bass Several of their numbers have been recorded under the "Tab ernacle Harmonies" label. Mr, Walden has arranged several of their numbers. Lutheran Youth To Spring Rally Approximately 25 teen agers and six adults of the Walther League of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran church, 1020 East Main st., will travel to Klamath Falls this week end for a gathering of young Lutherans from southern Ore gon. The spring rally, held each year, is designed not only to furnish opportunity for the young folks to meet each other, but to study, worship and play together. This is a zone meeting of the Walther League. The zone consists of congregations from Sutherlin to Klamath Falls. Joe Bailey from the Medford League is chairman of the zone, and Roberta Gamaehlich, also of Medford, is chairman of the Christian Growth department. Tom Kersten, also of Medford, is treasurer for the zone. Registration begins for the rally Saturday morning at 10. The Medford group expects to be back in Medford Sun day evening- lToung Christian Group Hears Guest Speaker William J. O'Keef, Port land, spoke to the Young Christian Worker's at their last meeting Friday evening He spoke of the Catholic Youth Movements. Neal Murphy gave a report on the closing of grocery stores on Sunday committee and the Rev. John Ilg led the discussion on religion.- During the past two weeks the group has held a picnic and has gone swimming at Jackson Hot Springs. Another time they attended a brunch at the home of Miss Mary An nette Rentz, program chair man for the group. Several members plan to at tend a week end retreat at Springfield June 7 and 8. Butte Falls Group Set's Butte Falls Good News club of Butte Falls, which meets each Wendesday from to 4 p.m. in the Commu nity Bible church, will pre sent a closing program in that church Sunday at 7 p.m. Grade school children who comprise the clubs have had a half hour released time for class attendance, ihe pri mary division was in charge of Mrs. Louis Crammer. Her assistants were Mrs. Howard Simmonds, Mrs. Harry Dal ton, Mrs. Donald Jolliffe and Miss Virginia McAlister. . The upper division group was in charge of Mrs. Linley Berck. Her assistants were Mrs. Duane Burton, Mrs. Ted Fredenburg and Miss Darlene Edmondson. Chorus singing, flannel- graph stories, memory work and treats were usual parts of each lesson period. Sunday night the children, them selves, will tell the stories' so that their adult friends may know what they have learned. Bible School . June 9 is the date for sum mer Bible school to start at the Community Bible church. From 9 a.m. until noon each day through June 20, there will be daily Bible classes for all children of the area from 4 years to 13 years of age. Mrs. Harry Dalton is in charge. Some of the other teachers will be Mrs. Cram mer and Mrs. Simonds. The roster is not yet complete and several young people plan to help with crafts and play ground activities. The theme of the school this year will be "Exploring God's Wonders." At the end of the school there will be a closing program. Last Sunday evening, high school graduates and their friends met in the Assembly of God church for baccalau reate service. The Rev.
