WALZER United Press Financial Editor New York (IP) Experts in things financial have been doing some exploring to find out where all this recent stock buying has been coming from. They report the, big buy ers are insti tutions and in vestment companies. 4? 4W1 add. there are A barrels more I money seek- I ing invest- Elmer Waizer ment. As L. O. Hooper, analyst for W. E. Hutton & co. puts it, there's a big supply of cash which is "all dressed up with nowhere to go." Hooper concludes that the plethora of cash has neutral ized all such things as poor earnings, dividend cuts and the deniable outlook for a longer period of sluggish busi ness trends. He Donders the point that apparently the easy money policy of the economy man agers has been more success ful, at least to date, in the se curities markets tnan in tne area of commercial activity. The big money is piling up in the mutual funds, pension funds, and many institutions. Mutual funds sold new shares to the tune of $333,- 713,000, in the first quarter and had redemptions in that period of only $91,795,000. That leaves nearly a quarter billion dollars for investment. Market men say the mutual Attendance Hits High at Museum Jacksonville Attendance at the Jacksonville museum dur ing April was the greatest since the museum was first opened, according to officials. They said 3,043 visitors toured the building during the month. This brings the total visit ors since July of 1950 to 282, 077. Attendance for April in 1957; numbered 2,595. Visit on during the record month were from 29 different states and several foreign countries. Twenty-four school classes visited the museum during April in addition to several other groups from the South ern Oregon and northern Cali fornia areas. ! Gifts and loans during the month were received from Mrs. Ann Davis, Medford; An ton Scheussler, Provolt; Mrs. Charles Manning, Trail; Mrs. Mary S. Robinson, Medford; Chuck Lyons, Gold Beach; Mr. R. S. Waugh, Oakland, Calif.'; Mrs. Harry Barneburg, Medford; Marc Prentice, Med ford; Mrs. George Zollman, Klamath Falls; Charles KoyL Ashland; Mrs. Hugh Taylor, Ashland; Roger Stutton, Jack sonville; and a painting col lection by R. Doland Robinson from the Museum of Art, Uni versity of Oregon. Several members of the Oregon centennial commission toured the museum during the month, officials reported. Asthmatics! We give $5 trade-in allowance for your old neb (even if broken) on a new Breatheasy set precision pyrex nebulizer; bottle of inhalant; zipper carry ing case. Money-back guarantee. At Your Druggist funds sales during -April were substantially better than in the first three months and redemptions even lower. Not Idle for Long This money cannot be left idle . for long. The tendency has been to put it back to work. A quarter billion dollars will buy more than 6,000,000 shares of stock and that's a lot of demand for this mar ket. And this doesn't include the other funds and institutions. Does the buying by mutual and other funds reflect their belief there will be an early - business recovery? Joseph E. Granville, ana lyst for E. F. Hutton & Co. has this answer: "According to the type of buying being done by the large investment companies, one cannot readily assume that they are betting on an early general business recov ery. "They are very selective and are, buying into many special situations. The in crease in their holdings of gold shares best reflects their uncertainties regarding the immediate future for the economy." Is it the proper thing to fol low the big investors and pay "more than stocks are worth, assuming a greater and great er over - appraisal," Hooper asks, "or should we assume that the mills of the gods are grinding and that eventually the grinding will be exceed ingly fine?"
