IP A massive flood-fighting opera tion shifted into high gear to day, strengthening levees to meet a near-bankful crest along the zig-zagging Red river in Louisiana. A revised flood bulletin was issued for the Red after no significant rainfall was report ed in waterlogged northern Louisiana for the past two days. The Red is expected to crest at Shreveport May 8 at 32.6 feet. Flood stage is 30 feet. About 400 Air Force per sonnel from Barksdale Air Force Base were ordered to reinforce flood fighters on levees between Alexandria and Shreveport Monday night, when levees weakened by floods last year were again threatened. Approximately 100 men equipped with bulldozers and other earth-moving machin ery began repairing levees at East Point, a small communi ty on the Red between Shreve port and Alexandria. 4-H Club News Meadows Busy Beaver Club The Meadows Busy Beavers 4-H club held a forestry hike on Sunday, May 4. There were nine members present. Ralph Ellis, group leader, went with us up East Evans creek. We found out many different kinds of trees and their correct names while on the hike. The hike lasted about two hours.
