r 4A MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Sunday, April 27, 1958 Sojourners Plan Party For Visitors Final plans to entertain the Klamath Falls Sojourners club May 8 were made during a meeting of the Medford So journers club Thursday at Girls Community club. The desert luncheon table was centered with an arrange ment of tulips, white and purple lilacs. Hostesses includ ed Mrs. William J. Williams, Mrs. Dwight Stewart and Mrs. Evelyn Hendricks. Prospective members intro duced were Mrs. Ruth Hunter, Mrs. Robert W. Benson and Mrs. George F. Carleton. Mrs. Bonnie Kollmer, Mrs. Ernest Burrell and Mrs. Nick Vani kiotis became new members. After the business meeting cards were played and prizes for bridge were awarded to Mrs. Roy Stain and Mrs. W. T. Fasel; pinochle to Mrs. Clar ence O. Leak and Mrs. Mable Wright and for canasta, Mrs. Clarence Staley and Mrs. Ira Mottern. The next meeting of the club will be held at Rogue Valley Country club at 12:30 p.m. Reservations for the luncheon are to be made not later than Tuesday May 6 by calling Mrs. A. L. McClure, SPring 3-3924, or Mrs. J. E. Westlund, SPring 2-2116. Newcomers who have lived in Medford and vicinity not more than two years are in vited to attend. Masons to Hold Dinner Meeting Keith Bates, worshipful master of Medford lodge, AF and AM has announced that the lodge will honor its past masters Saturday, May 3 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be pre ceded by a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the Masonic Tem ple, and is cpen to all Ma sons, their families and in vited guests. Prospect Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Allred, Baldwin Park, Calif., have announced the engagement of their daugh ter, Maria Lou, to Richard Louis Freed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Peter Freed, box 62, Prospect. An announcement party was held at the Allred home April 19 with about 30 rela tives and friends attending Miss Allred is a student at Baldwin Park High school Mr. Freed attended Prospect High school and is making his home in Baldwin Park with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joel E. Walls. He is employed at Stauffer Chemical company, Los An geles. S. Neeley, 1012 East 11th street, Medford, in a cere mony held Saturday, April 12, at the Park Wedding chapci in Reno, Nevada. The brid" :s a daughter of Mr. anc s. Paul Popsun, Lake G Rev. Ralph H. Carle t. officiated at the single ring 6:30 o'clock evening cere- i mony attended by close rela tives and friends of the couple. The bride wore a light blue faille dress in afternoon length with white lace collar and white accessories. Her corsage was of white carna tions. Miss Roxie O'Brien attend ed the bride. She wore a navy blue linen dress with yellow carnation corsage. Jack Findley served as best man. Following the wedding a reception was held at the home of the uncle and aunt of the bridegroom, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welsh. Attending the wedding from Medford were Mrs. T. S. Nee ley, mother of the bride groom, and Mr. and Mrs. Her man Pfahl. The bride attended Lake Oswego High school and was employed by the Service Bu reau corporation of Portland. Mr. Neeley attended Medford High school and is a student at Southern Oregon college. The couple are making their home in Medford. Sunday, April 20, the iiew lyweds were honored at a shower party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shoop, 130 White Oak drive. White lilacs and pale pink bleeding hearts decorated the serving table for the event attended by 25 relatives and friends. Guests included Miss Nan cy Norris, Miss Norma Grang er, Miss Rosie Johnson, Jack Findley, Jim Cooksey, Walter Garner, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wall, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cur ry, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Whitlock, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Neeley, Mrs. Herman Pfahl, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hobbs, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Neeley, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pfahl, Mr. and. Mrs. Al Edwards, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Brown. Couple Married In Butte Falls; Reception Held Eagle Point Miss Lorraine De Rosa and Sterling L. Allen, Eagle Point, were married at Butte Falls Community Bible church at two o'clock Friday, April 18. The Rev. Howard Simmonds officiated. Matron of honor was Mrs. Olen Kent, Medford, and Ir- vin McKeen, Eagle Point, was best man. Also present for the ceremony were the bride groom's mother, Mrs. Pearl Allen, Eagle Point, and Mrs. Neva Gilbreath. The newlyweds were hon ored at a reception held Fri day at Mrs. Gilbreath's home on Butte Falls highway. Mrs. Porter Allen, aunt of the bridegroom poured the punch and Mrs. Gilbreath cut the wedding cake, which she had made. Mrs. Opal Collins served coffee. Following the reception, the couple opened their wedding gifts. Guests from Medford, Eagle Point and' Butte Falls at tended. Rotarians Honor Medford Student- Has Fellowship Lewis Bright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip S. Bright, 1797 Minear rd., Medford, was named Rotarian of the month for April recently at a meet ing of the student council at Willamette university. He is a senior at the uni versity where he is majoring in speech and political science. He recently received a gradu ate fellowship in rehetoric and public address from the Uni versity of Washington. The student is a member of Tau Kappa Alpha, national forensic honorary fraternity, and has participated in a var iety of debate and individual speech events. He is : ast presi- dentof Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and is a member of Sigma Chi and Omicron Delta Kappa, service honor aries, and Pi Gamma Mu, na tional social science honorary fraternity. Last November he was a delegate to the National Inter- fraternity convention in Col orado Springs, Colo, and at the university has acted as as sistant dean of men. Degree of Honor To Hold Meeting Degree of Honor lodge will meet Monday, April 28, at 8 p.m. at Redman hall. All members attending are asked to take sandwiches. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Le Roy Neeley Parents of 13 Observe 45th Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Z. Smith, Gold Hill, celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary at a fam ily dinner given in the home of their son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gamier, 940 Alta street, Medford Sun day, April 20. Thjrty-nine were present. The couple were married at Ordway, Colo., April 19, 1913. They came to southern Ore gon from Texas in 1922 and have resided since that time in Gold Hill. Mr. Smith is a retired employee of the Ideal Cement company, hav ing worked at the Gold Hill plant over 34 years before his retirement. RWs. Smith is an active member of the Amethyst Re bekah lodge and Past Noble Grands club, having been a member of the lodge for over 30 years. At present she holds the office of musician for the lodge and is treasurer-elect for the Past Noble Grands club. Mrs. Smith is also active in the Woman's Society of Community Methodist church, and was recently elected to the office of secretary of mis sionary education. Mr. and Mrs. . Smith are the parents of 13 children, including three sets of twins. Twelve of their children are living. The hostess for the anniver sary dinner is one of the twins. She is the former Jeraldine Smith. Her stwin brother Gerald Smith and his wife and daughter, Debbie, from Portland, were among those present for the event. Ellis, Kerby, be came the bride of Forster J. Cooke in rites held Friday, April 18, at 8 o'clock at Im manuel Methodist church, Cave Junction. The bridegroom is the son of Edwin N. Cooke, Kerby, and Mrs. Roy C. Evans, of Vallejo, Calif. The bride was given in marriage by her father, and the Rev. Robert Kingsbury read the double ring service. Serving as matron of honor was Mrs. Frank Cooke, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, while Mr. Cooke served his brother as best man. A blue sheath dress with white accessories and a white carnation corsage were worn by the bride for her wedding. Her mother wore a black and white sheath with white ac cessories and white carna tions. The matron of honor also wore black and white with white accessories and a carnation corsage. The church parlor was dec orated with bouquets of spring flowers for the wedding and reception. Miss Delores Smith assisted at the serving table. The new Mrs. Cooke will complete her senior year at Illinois Valley High school this May. Her husband, now employed as a logger, plans to resume his college career this fall. He was graduated from Illinois Valley High schoolin 1953, and spent a year at Napa college in Cali fornia before entering the Army. The couple is now at home in Kerby. Mrs. Cooke was honored at two bridal showers shortly be fore her we'dding. Mrs. Claude Reinoehl and her daughter, Delores Smith, were hostesses at the first shower, given at the Reinhol home in Kerby. The second shower was giv en Wednesday at the Kerby Assembly of God church by members of Mrs. Cooke's high school classes. Miss Linda Marshall was hostess for the event. Cecelia Fichtner Is Representative To Grand Council Miss Cecelia Fichtner was elected representative to the grand council to be held May 3 and 4 in St. Johnson, at the last meeting of the Pythian Sunshine Girls held at the Pythian hall. Also to attend the grand council meeting will be Miss Berta Crippen, Miss Rose Ann Brooks, Miss Layle Bostwick and Miss Lanae Bostwick. They will be accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bost wick. At the last meeting Mrs Don Kadin and Mrs. Eva Smith took the honorary mothers degree and became members of the council. At the meeting Miss Bar bara Kadin and Miss Bost wick served refreshments. The next meeting will be held Thursday, May 8 at 4 p.m at the Pythian building. District Session Of Garden Clubs Set Wednesday Laurel Garden club mem bers will be hostesses for the spring meeting of the Siskiyou district, Oregon Federation of Garden clubs. It will be held Wednesday, April 30, in VFW hall at Rogue River. Posters will direct those members at tending to the meeting place. Registration will start at 9 a.m., and the business meet ing will be at 9:45 a.m. A number of state officers are planning to attend. Mrs. I. D. Fitzgerald, Medford, district director, will preside. Lunch eon will be served at noon. The afternoon program will consist of a panel discussion on primroses, iris, lilies and roses led by Mrs. Harry O. Smith, Cave Junction; Mrs. Robert Roarke, Grants Pass; Mrs. Leslie Woodriff, Harbor and Stanley Miranda; Glen dale, Ore. Pictures of a trip on the Salmon river will be shown by M. E.
