Band Visits The Jackson ville High school band recent ly gave a concert at the Ruch school. Ruch school eighth graders are planning a visit to the high school soon, officials reported. Assembly Set An armed services assembly is set for April 30 at Jacksonville High school, according to school of ficials. They said Air Force, Army, and Navy personnel will explain service careers. . Byrd Virtually Assured Reelection Richmond, Va. (IP) Sen. Harry F. Byrd (D-Va.) won the state Democratic nomina tion by default Thursday and was virtually assured of re election to the fifth six-year term. Thomas H. Blanton, chair man of the Democratic State Central committee, issued a statement late in the day de claring Byrd to be the only candidate who had "complied with the Democratic Party plan and the Virginia elec tion laws." Byrd, 69, who announced last Feb. 12 that he would not run again. Less than two weeks later he reversed that decision. The blast is believed to have occurred on the U.S. vessel Canada Victory, sunk en since the Okinawa battle and lying a mile off the coast of Toyaku village. North Kadena Air Base wit nesses reported seeing four canoes around the area short ly before an earthshaking ex plosion, then a water column and white smoke soaring up ward. Thirty-two persons were confirmed as missing. A similar incident killed 30 divers retrieving metal from a sunken hulk of ah LS in the same area last July. Moro Youth Killed As Auto Rolls Over The Dalles (IP) John Wesley Gilman Jr., 20, Moro, was killed Thursday night when his car went out of con trol on Fulton Canyon road about 18 miles east of The Dalles, plowed into the left bank and overturned. Gilman was thrown out of the wreckage and over an em bankment. Three passengers riding with him were injured. Though they have visited previously in the val ley this was their first trip here during the springtime and their first time to see the orchards in bloom.
