Kean's close vic tory in the Republican race. Williams, endorsed by the governor, won the Democratic nomination over Hoboken Mayor John J. Grogan and Joseph E. McLean, state com missioner of conservation and economic development, by a scant 10,000 votes. Kean edged Bernard M. Shanley, former appointments secretary to President Eisen hower, and Robert Morris of Point Pleasant in Tuesday's balloting. Unofficial returns from 4,- 118 of the state's 4,184 dis tricts in the Democratic con test showed: Williams, 149,- 513; Grogan, 136,404, and McLean, 60,961. With 4,128 districts in the Republican side, the three way fight gave. Kean, 155,- 698; Shanley, 128,552, and Morris, 72,359. Nominations for 14 con gressional seats were decided along with numerous munici pal and county offices in the election, which also saw a comeback by the regular Hud son county organization oust ed from Jersey City control last May by a "victory ticket" faction of the party. Approximately 700,000 of the state's 2,700,000 regis tered voters participated in the tight senatorial election. More Suspensions 01 Licenses Given Drivers whose, licenses were ordered suspended dur ing the period beginning Anril 2 and ending April 8 were announced by the state department of motor vehicles. Length of suspension var ies, depending on charges in volved, recommenaauon ox court, discretionary action by the department or require ments of Oregon law. Some of the licenses involving fi nancial responsibility and court recommendations may have been reinstated after suspension was ordered. The department warned drivers that all police agen cies receive copies of this re port.
