4A MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Ore., Sunday, April 13, 1958 "Gay Twenties77 Theme Of Annual Cancer Tea "Gay Twenties' will be the theme of the annual silver ' tea of the Medford Commit tee of the Jackson County unit of the American Cancer Society to be held Friday April 18, from 2 until 4:30 p.m. It will be held at Hill- crest orchards.- Members of the committee will model authentic gowns and other items . of apparel from the 1920s. Auxiliary Head To Visit Groups Mrs. Iva Mae Hardisty, Ore gon City president of the De partment of Oregon, United Spanish War Veterans' auxili ary, will make her official visit to Colonel Sargent, Med ford, and Rogue River, Grants Pass, auxiliaries at ' a joint meeting in VFW hall in Grants Pass Sunday April 20 at 1 p.m. A pot-luck dinner will be served at noon and Medford and Ashland mem bers are requested to take salads and desserts. Mrs. Hardisty will be ac companied by Depart ment Commander and Mrs. M. H. Broughton, Aloha, Ore., Com mander Broughton will in spect the two camps. Mrs. Bertha Nelson, president of Colonel Sargent auxiliary, and Mrs. Willie Cooper, president of Rogue River auxiliary, will be in charge of the meeting. Plans will be discussed for the annual carnation sales of the two auxiliaries. Three Chapters To Hold Session Three of the city's POE sisterhood chapters have scheduled meetings this week. Chapter CG will meet at 1 o'clock Wednesday April 16, at the home of Mrs. S. R. Mosher, 332 Ardmore avenue. Chapter BE will meet Tues day, April 15, at? 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. W. E. Herch er, 1608 Stratford avenue. Mrs. Allan F. . Perry, presi dent, and her .- officers will have charge of the meeting. Chapter CP will hold a meeting at the home of Mrs. E. S. Strother," Shady Cove,' April 16. Assisting her will be Mrs. S. -V. McQueen and Mrs. H. C. Drew. Special guests will be the presi dents respectively of Chapters AA, BE and CG. The program will be presented by Mrs. V. H. Wilson. voted on by the guests at tending the tea. Prizes will be awarded to the three top entries in the floral arrange ments contest as decided by the popular vote. Dresses have been loaned by Mrs. Lewis Ulrich, Mrs. Robert Root, Mrs. Otto Frohn mayer, Mrs. R. B. Thierolf, Mrs. Edward Kelly, Mrs. John Day, Mrs. Lillian Salade, Mrs. John Holmer, Mrs. Stuart Mc Queen, Mrs. Lee Mellish, Mrs. Fred Lewis, Mrs. C. A. Wine trout and Mrs. H. A. Stanley. Mrs. W. L. Walden of Wal den Floral shop is in charge of. the floral arrangement for the tea table. Mrs. Fred Spiegelberg and Mrs. Ralph Thompsen are co- chairmen for the event with other chairmen listed as Mrs, Fred Burich, voting and bal lot box; Mrs. L. S. Ellis, food; Mrs. L. W. Daughter Visits j Gold Hill Couple; Named Director Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. Ted Schoenemann, Pacific highway 99 north, have had as their house guest the past sev eral weeks their daughter, Miss Dorothy Schoenemann, who left recently for San Francisco to begin a new as signment. She has received a permanent appointment as so cial director on the S. S. Lur-line. Prior to her visit in the Rogue valley, Miss Schoene mann had completed a cruise to Mexico on the same ship as social director. Previous to the Mexico cruise, she took her orientation trip on the S. S. Monterey to the South Pa cific. In addition to these cruises, Miss Schoenemann has trav eled to various places, among them being Alaska, Canada, Mexico and Havana. She was employed for several years by Pan American Airlines in Honolulu, Seattle and San Francisco. Miss Schoenemann attended school in Burbank, Calif, and the University of Washington. Presbyterian Circle Announces Meeting Centarl Point The Wo men's Christian circle of First Presbyterian church. Central Point, will meet Thursday, April 17, at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Jeffries, 543 Scenic avenue. Mrs. W. J. Gebhard will lead the devotions and Mrs. W. (Brainerd photo) County Red Cross Chapter Announces New Chairman Several newly appointed chairmen were introduced at the monthly meeting of the Jackson County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Introduced were Colonel C. E. Stafford, disaster chair man; Mrs. Sheridan W. Scott, home service co-chairman; Mrs. Raymond Reter, repre sentative to United Medford Crusade; and Mrs. Edna Stoehr, staff aides. ' The local chapter recently received three certificates of award from National Red Cross hearquarters in recog nition of Jackson county's fund raising achievement. The awards were presented to the chapter members and receiv ed on their behalf by Mrs. Al member; Mrs. Raymond Re fred S. V. Carpenter, life ter, Red Cross representative to the United Medford Cru sade, and Todd Tibbutt, coun ty drive chairman. Manville Heisel and Mrs. E. Al Littrell were elected delegates to attend the nation al convention to be held in San Francisco May 19, 20 and 21. Miss Dixie McCullough, Ashland, spoke at the meet ing, attended by 52 directors and volunteers. Miss McCul lough recently returned from a tour in Korea serving as director of Red Cross Mobile urits. She is scheduled to leave soon for Washington, D. C, for reassignment in the same recreational pro gram for servicemen. Dancers to Hold Graduation Party The YMCA beginners square dance class instructed by Douglas Fosbury will hold a graduation party Monday, April 14, from 8 till 11 p.m. at the Y. All square dancers are invited to attend. Potluck refreshments will be served. It has been announced that an intermediate square dance class will follow this class. It will be held Monday nights for six weeks. Anyone inter ested in "brushing up" is in vited to attend. This will also be taught by Mr. Fosbury. Music for the meet ing was provided by Mrs Otto J. Frohnmayer and luncheon was served by can teen members. Girls "Hold Candy Sale With the launching of the 1958 Camp Fire Girls candy and peanut in Jackson county last week, local Camp Fire Girls, Blue Birds and Horizon club members have joined thousands of girls in their sister councils throughout the United States to do their share in this annual money raising event. Mrs. Ruth Gerety, execu tive director of the Rogue Camp Fire Girls council, urges support of this "worth while, character - building youth organization." "You treat a Camp Fire Girl to greater companionship, fun and learning encouragement that will make them stronger citizens of tomorrow. You are also helping to expand the privileges of membership in Camp Fire to more and more girls eagerly awaiting the opportunity," Mrs. Gerety said. Awards are given to each girl who sells a certain num ber of boxes, and each group gets a share in the profits to supplement its treasury for individual group activities. Garden Club Butte Falls Garden club will meet Tuesday,. April 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Keith Scott. A work day will be held for framing flower paintings for the museum. Family Reunion Held at Abbotts A family reunion uniting five generations was held re cently at the W. C. Abbott residence, Old Stage road, Medford. The occasion also observed the 83rd birthday of Mr. Abbott's grandmother, Mrs. Mary E. Moore, Med ford. Youngest member of the family was a six months old girl, great-great-grandchild of Mrs. Moore. ' Attending the event was one of Mrs. Moore's two chil dren, Mrs. James W. Clarke, North Riverside avenfte, Med ford; two grandchildren, Mr. Abbott and Mrs. G. L. Rans dell, Eugene; and six of her nine great- grandchildren. Great - grandchildren were Mrs. Floyd Wright, Tilla mook; Miss Glenda Ransdell, Miss Jerry Ransdell and Ed die Ransdell, all Eugene; Mrs. Bobbie Vance, Gold Hill; and Tommy Abbott, Medford. The . great-great-grandchild is a daughter of the Wrights. Also observed during the day's activities were Mr. Ransdell's and Mr. Abbott's birthdays which occurred during the week. Also attending the event were Mrs. Abbott, Mr. Rans dell, Mr. Wright, and Mr. Vance. Mrs. - Moore was born in Illinois February 15, 1875, and moved to Jackson county in 1877 with her parents. '- Concert to Have Guest Conductor Portland Cedric (Skitch) Henderson, one of the nation's top radio and television per sonalities, will be guest con ductor and soloist with the Portland Symphony for its fourth Pops concert of the season Friday, April 25, at the public auditorium. As composer, conductor and pianist, Henderson has gained renown in areas of music ranging from the New York Philharmonic Symphony or chestra to the Steve Allen television show. Co-sponsors of the April 25 Pops will be the Oregon Ad vertising club. Tickets are on sale at J. K. Gill.
