I French Harden Tunisia Atlilude Paris U"i Right-wing members of the French cabi net hardened their attitude toward Tunisia today, anger ed because they said Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba had been "too stubborn" to reach a settlement of the dis pute with France. Premier Felix Gaillard call ed an emergency cabinet meeting today. The right wing group demanded a full hearing in the United Nations of French charges Tunisia has aided Algerian rebels. There was a possibility Gaillard and Foreign Minister Christian Pineau would seek cabinet backing for an 11th hour attempt to revive the stalemated Anglo - American good offices mission. Salem Visitor Here Held In County Jail Ronald Eugene Johnson, 27, Salem, was jailed by state po lice here early this morning on a charge of burglary not in a dwelling. He was arrested on a war rant from Salem district court while visiting friends on Broad st. and is held for Marion county authorities un der $1,000 bail, police said. MAIMS LAWYER'S NOSE White Plain, N.Y. (If) Silvio Provenzano, 38, was convicted of maiming Thurs day by a Westchester county jury and was held for sen tencing. The route was selected by the Jackson county agents and by Pear Blossom Festival authorities. It was sug gested by officials that tours of the blos som route be made this week while the blooms are reaching their peak. More than 10,000 acres of pear trees in the Medford area, according to the county agent. Troutdale Man Killed in Accident Troutdale (IP) Cylde Rich ard, 27, Troutdale, was kill ed Thursday night when the car in which he was riding crashed over a 13-foot bank on the old Columbia River highway and onto Union Pa cific tracks below. Officers said William L. Matthews, 24, riding with him, was shaken up but did not have to be taken to the hospital. The car overturned, pin ning Richard beneath it. Mat thews apparently was thrown free. Truck Driver Harland D. Jones of the Inland Motor Frieght Company, who was eastbound, got out and flag ged down an eastbound freight train, which stopped until Richard could be extri cated. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Providence I hospital in Portland. STEWART HOPPER Selected for Scholarship CONSUL PROMOTED Nicosia, Cyprus (IP) The U.S. consulate in Nicosia will become a consulate - general Sunday, it was announced to day. Consul Taylor Belcher will be promoted to consul- general. Eagle Point Man Receives Award Eagle Point Stewart Hop per, business teacher on the Eagle Point high school staff, has been selected by the State Department of Education for a scholarship at Oregon State college. Glenn D. Hale, superintend ent of schools, announced that Hopper will participate in a summer workshop in the field .of business education. He is one of 12 business instructors in Oregon selected for the workshop, which will be held from June 23 to July 18. Hopper has been a member of the Eagle Point system since 1954. He is a member of the National Office Mana gers' association and Oregon Business Education associa tion in Carmel, Calif. Hopper's wife, Esther, is home economics teacher at the high school. They have a daughter, Barbara. Route Outlined For Good View Of Pear Blossoms Pear trees in the Medford district are in beautiful full bloom today, County Horti cultural Agent Clifford Cordy said this morning comment ing on one of the highlights of the Pear Blossom Festival this week endv Cordy outlined two routes which may be taken by those wishing to see the snowy- white blossom " clusters. One route, and the longer of the two, takes blossom viewers out the Jacksonville highway to Jacksonville, left then, fol- l r. 4 1 i i i .lowing souw ssiage ra.,. stay ing west of railroad tracks until reaching Talent. Then, across the railroad tracks and south on Highway 99 for a block, then head east again, across Bear creek and turn left. It continues north, east of Bear creek. Then, to town by way of the Hillcrest orch ords and East Main st. in Med ford. Cordy outlined a shorter drive which would also pro vide good views of the blossom-clad orchards but would require less travelling time. It goes out East main st. to the Hillcrest orchards, then north again along Highline rd. to the end. Upon reaching the end of the road it turns left and back to Medford by way of Crater Lake highway. Beautiful panoramic views are provided near Talent and north of the Hillcrest orchards, Cordy says. Jet Pilot Unhurt In Crash of Plane Eden ton, N. C. (IP) Marine 1st Lt. James G. Cowart Jr. of Savannah, Ga., walked away unhurt when his A4D-2 jet plane crashed and burned on take-off Thursday at the Na val Auxiliary Air Station here. It was the third crash of a Navy or Marine Corps jet in North Carolina in as many days. A Navy pilot bailed out safely near .Murfreesboro Wednesday when his Cougar jet had a "flameout" and crashed. A Marine pilot was killed Tuesday when his Cou gar jet crashed and burned near Atlantic during a rocket- firing run. Plane Wreckage Sighted From Air Quito, Ecuador (IP) The wreckage of an Ecuadorean airliner which apparently crashed and exploded Mon day on the slopes of volcanic Mt. Illiniza was sighted from the air Thursday. First reports indicated all of the 32 persons aboard were killed. The 29 passengers of the ill fated DC-3 included two Americans Oscar Reps, an engineer from Bohemia, N.Y., and Mrs. Lewis W. Jones, of Lawler, Iowa. Mrs. Jones' husband, a Ca nadian missionary for the Jehovah's Witness sect, also was aboard the plane. ART NORDQUIST Wins Sales Contest Safeway Manager Wins Sales Contest Art Nordquist, manager of the West Main st. Safeway store, has been named a win ner in a division-wide contest for sales increase. Nordquist is one of seven store managers who won the prize of a one-week; expense paid trip to New York City. He will leave on April 12 from Portland with other win ners from the 95 stores tak ing 'part in the contest. FFA Dinner Slated For Eagle Point Eagle Point The third an nual Parent and Son banquet of the Eagle Point Chapter of Future Farmers of Amer ica will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 in the grade school gym. Invited guests are the par ents of FFA members, the high school faculty, school board members, vocational ag riculture advisory board, county agricultural officials and a number of friends of the FFA chapter. iNat Etzel, vocational agriculture instruc tor, is assisting the boys with the program. Adin Hester of Canby, na tional FFA public speaking' winner in 1957, will be the main sDeaker. The young man is a past president of the Oregon it A ana is owner of some farm land, a dairy herd and half a swine herd at Canby. Special Awards Special awards will be given chapter members by the Eagle Point Lions club, for Chapter Star Farmer; Eagle Point Grange, best public speaker; Southern Oregon Milk Producers League, boy with best dairy enterprise; and Eagle Point Jaycees, boys outstanding in farm me chanics, farm and home elec trification, soil and water management and farm safety. Honorary degrees also will be presented to adults who have given special assistance to the'chapter during the past year. Those attending will have an opportunity to visit the vocational agriculture build ing following the banquet to see the students' shop proj ects, Etzel said. School cafeteria personnel will cook the dinner and home economics students and Girls Athletic association members will serve, under the direction of Mrs. Stewart Hopper, home economics instructor.
