SHADY COVE-TRAIL Fireman's Ball Held By EVALYN P. WATSON Shady Cove - Trail Fire Chief Athel Dudley of the Shady Cove-Trail Rural Fire Protection district has report ed that the volunteer fire man's ball recently was well attended. Among those who attended were 11 couples of visiting firemen from Phoe nix and Jacksonville. The vol unteer firemen expressed their appreciation to residents in the area who helped make the ball a success. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Scott of Trail took a trip to Crescent City, Calif., where they visit ed friends, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon. The resusciatator purchased through the efforts of the Shady Cove Rotary club and " other organizations in the area has been housed for sev eral years in a special box at tached to the side of The Treasure Trove in Shady Cove, has been placed in the ' care of Dr. Ferguson. Cove. Leaders will be Mrs. Wendell Stalker, Mrs. Frank Linden and Mrs. Orval Oliver of the Shady Cove unit and Mrs. Henry Schuder of the Upper Rogue Extension unit. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Monical of Trail are parerXs of a girl born on Valentines Day in a Grants Pass hospital. She has been named Lisa Lynne, and weighed 5 pounds, lOVz ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Decker and son, Jerry Allen, were visitors at the home of his mother, Mrs. Frances Miller of Shady Cove. Mrs. U. R. Wagler of Big Butte Creek, Trail, has re turned from a trip to Ontario Calif., with her cousins, Mr and Mrs. Lloyd Wagler of Winston. She visited her mother, Mrs. Churchill, who is ill, and her sister, Mrs Ruth Schuhmann. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Paul son of Shady Cove made a trip last weekend to Yreka Calif., where they attended the funeral of George Sim mons. Mr. Simmons was the father-in-law of Mrs. Paul son's brother. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Haz en of Jacksonville were visi tors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove recently. Mr. and Mrs. Joaquin Me dina of Shady Cove are par ents of a girl born Feb. 2 at Osteopathic hospital, Med- ford. She has been named Patricia Marie and is the couple's seventh child. Mrs. Medina's brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nelmes and children of Mountain View, Calif., have moved to the Jack Shirley ranch on the Butte Falls highway. Mrs. Edwin Strother of Shady Cove entertained mem bears of the PEO, Chapter CP, at a luncheon at her home Wednesday. Following the luncheon a regular meeting was held. Attending were Mesdames Frank Paske, Rob ert Elliott, Jack Sanborn, Ev erett Faber, Frank Unmack, J. A. Graff, R. B. Hammond, L. B. Mayfield, W. W. Deak ins, all of Medford, and A. R. Schoenberg of Camp White, and the hostess, Mrs. Stroth er. Mrs. McMitrick of Med ford was present as a guest. Young people of the Trail Community church went on a snow party Saturday. Brig. General and Mrs. Dotor Varhnn. nf Palo AltO. who spend summers here at their home in Edgewooa parK, are spending the winter in Guadalajara, Mexico. They expect to come back to Shady Cove early this year, possibly m mid-April. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Barb er, of Trail, have returned from a trip to Mexico. Some of the places visuea were can Rias and Aiiiic, near Lake Chapula. Measles seem to have been traveling the rounds in Shady rove with most of tne young pr set either down with them, inst eettine over them or ahnut to come down with them. Several children who have had them recently are Dawn Cherie Oliver, Sherry Brown, Pat Barr, Kathy An derson and Glenn ana -auy Mason. The HEC of the Shady Cove Grange held a meeting at the home of Mrs. Cecil Kee of Shady Cove with eight members oresent. Mrs. Isabel Wunderlick was a guest and members present were Mes dames Ed "Houston, Johnie Minor, Lewis Dusenberry, Walter Cross, Edgar Vander lip, Edwin Strother, and Tra vis Littlefield. and the host ess, Cecil Kee. The next regu lar meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Johnie Mi nor. At the last social meeting of the Grange a potluck sup nr was served. Cecil Kee gave a talk as a representa tive from the school board on consolidation and reorganiza tion of the school district. At a recent meeting of the Young Citizen's club of Shady Cove-Trail, Mrs. Max Hawks of Shady Cove was elected chairman of the advisory board. Committees were ap pointed for a dance which will be held after the Lenten season. Games were played and refreshments served. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Sand erson of Sams Valley were Sunday guests at the home of their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sanderson of Trail. Word has been received of the marriage of Jimmy Arntz recently in Burns. He stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brew er of Trail before he moved to Burns. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Govern or and family of Coos Bay spent a weekend at the home of Mrs. Governor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldoon Jack, of Shady Cove recently. Oth er recent guests of the Jack's have been their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Christenson, of Central Point. The Shady Cove Garden club met at the home of Mrs. Walter Turner Monday with 14 members present. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Delbert Spain and Mrs. Max Hawks. Mrs. Al Cooper of Shady Cove was a guest. Mrs. Bill Shep herd gave the lesson on "Growing Garden Show Specimens". A flower show was discussed. The Shady Cove Home Ex tension Unit met at the home of Mrs. Wendell Stalker in Shady Cove recently. Eight een members were present with Mrs. Joe Oliver a guest. The project, "pies and pas try," was presented to the group by Mrs. Bobbie Sikes and Mrs. Wendell Stalker. The next meeting will be held March 18 at the home of Mrs. ' John Loper of Trail. Project. will be "meat cookery" with Mrs. Everett Cushman and - Mrs. John Loper as leaders. A basic dress workshop will start March 5 with the lessons ; to.be held one day each week j for four weeks. Mrs. Bilr Shepherd ,of Shady Cove attended the cor sage workshop recently spon sored by the Siskiyou district of federated garden clubs. Art Hutchison of Shady Cove has purchased the home of Mrs. Gene O'Brien, form erly the old Cole place. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Darrohn and family of Big Butte creek, were to move into it about Feb. 20. They were formerly living in the Goodwin place on Big Butte. Portland Stores Cut Retail Coffee Prices Portland OP) Some large food markets in the Portland area Monday posted the first retail cut in name brand coffee prices since Oct. 2, as the reflection of a three cents per pound decline in wholesale prices. The cut places the general price at 92 cents per pound, the lowest level in some three years. Salem (IP) William M.
