Fireman's Ball Held

ed that the volunteer fire
man's ball recently was well
attended. Among those who
attended were 11 couples of
visiting firemen from Phoe
nix and Jacksonville. The vol
unteer firemen expressed
their appreciation to residents
in the area who helped make
the ball a success.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Scott of
Trail took a trip to Crescent
City, Calif., where they visit
ed friends, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon.

through the efforts of the
Shady Cove Rotary club and
" other organizations in the
area has been housed for sev
eral years in a special box at

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Monical
of Trail are parerXs of a girl
born on Valentines Day in a
Grants Pass hospital. She has
been named Lisa Lynne, and
weighed 5 pounds, lOVz
ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Decker
and son, Jerry Allen, were
visitors at the home of his
mother, Mrs. Frances Miller
of Shady Cove.
Mrs. U. R. Wagler of Big
Butte Creek, Trail, has re
turned from a trip to Ontario
Calif., with her cousins, Mr
and Mrs. Lloyd Wagler of
Winston. She visited her
mother, Mrs. Churchill, who
is ill, and her sister, Mrs
Ruth Schuhmann.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Paul
son of Shady Cove made a
trip last weekend to Yreka
Calif., where they attended
the funeral of George Sim
mons. Mr. Simmons was the
father-in-law of Mrs. Paul
son's brother.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Haz
en of Jacksonville were visi
tors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady
Cove recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Joaquin Me
dina of Shady Cove are par
ents of a girl born Feb. 2 at
Osteopathic hospital, Med-
ford. She has been named
Patricia Marie and is the
couple's seventh child. Mrs.
Medina's brother and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nelmes
and children of Mountain
View, Calif., have moved to
the Jack Shirley ranch on the
Butte Falls highway.
Mrs. Edwin Strother of
Shady Cove entertained mem
bears of the PEO, Chapter CP,
at a luncheon at her home

luncheon a regular meeting

Cove Grange held a meeting
at the home of Mrs. Cecil Kee
of Shady Cove with eight

Walter Cross, Edgar Vander
lip, Edwin Strother, and Tra
vis Littlefield. and the host
ess, Cecil Kee. The next regu
lar meeting will be held at

nor. At the last social meeting
of the Grange a potluck sup
nr was served. Cecil Kee
gave a talk as a representa
tive from the school board on
consolidation and reorganiza
tion of the school district.
At a recent meeting of the
Young Citizen's club of Shady
Cove-Trail, Mrs. Max Hawks
of Shady Cove was elected
chairman of the advisory
board. Committees were ap
pointed for a dance which
will be held after the Lenten
season. Games were played
and refreshments served.

the marriage of Jimmy Arntz
recently in Burns. He stayed

was a guest. Mrs. Bill Shep
herd gave the lesson on
"Growing Garden Show
Specimens". A flower show
was discussed.

of Mrs. Wendell Stalker in

Portland Stores Cut
Retail Coffee Prices

Portland area Monday posted
the first retail cut in name
brand coffee prices since Oct.
2, as the reflection of a three
cents per pound decline in
wholesale prices.
The cut places the general
price at 92 cents per pound,
the lowest level in some three
years.
