Here in this place strange to me, the softness of slumber is pierced with the first light. And, because I am neither quite awake nor quite asleep, I am a little lost. But I cannot deny the beauty of the morning, the smears of scarlet on the Winter sky, the glow across the land, the questioning alarm of a single bird outside my window.
