Shown at left (left to 4 lffS' a M i .-X- i Junior Women's Club Holds First Installation The city'i newest organiza tion for women, Medford Junior Women's club, was formally launched at the home of Mrs. John L. Holmes, 303 Willamette avenue, Wed nesday evening. A candle light ceremony marking the first installation of officers was , conducted by Mrs. Wal ter Brown, Klamath Falls, who represented the Oregon Federation of Women's clubs. Mrs. Brown is first vice-president of the state group. The new club is the first unit of the National Federa tion of Women's clubs tocjbe installed in Medford. In this respect Medford has been something of an oddity, since almost every city of any size in the nation has at least one federated club. Mrs. Holmes took office as the first elected president of the new organization. Install ed with her were Mrs. Robert Billingsley, first vice-president; Mrs. J. A. Redden, sec ond vice-president; Mrs. Wil liam Sweet, recording secre tary; Mrs. L. E. McConnell, corresponding secretary; Mrs. David De Armond, treasurer and Mrs. Gene Chamberlain, parliamentarian. Special guests were Mrs. C. W. Peterson, Ashland, who is president of the First dis trict, Oregon Federation of Womens clubs; Mrs. W. W. Redden and Mrs. Sweet. Mrs. Holmes was assisted by Mrs. De Armond and Mrs. Billingsley. Mrs. Peterson pre sided at the coffee service; the serving table was center ed with an arrangement of yellow jasmine. Mrs. J. F. Hope was in charge of the arrangements for the installation ceremony. Next regular meeting of the club will be February 12. Mrs. J. A. Redden will be hostess. Serving with her will be Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Chamberlain. Study Club Wednesday Study club members will meet Wednes day, Feb. 5, in Girl's Commu nity club at 2 p.m. A book re view and a biographical study of some noted person are on the program. Purcell Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley M. Purcell, of 439 North Front street, Med ford. The bride-elect is a gradu ate of Oregon State college where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. She is now employed in Albany. Mr. Purcell was graduated from Oregon State college, where he was affiliated with Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He is now doing graduate work. The wedding will be Feb ruary 15 in Salem. Lady Lions Plan Annual Dinner Medford Lady Lions and members of the Medford Fire department will hold the an nual potluck dinner at the Central fire station on North Front street, Tuesday eve ning, February 4, at 6:30 p.m. The two groups work togeth er each year on the Christmas toy project, and follow this project with the annual din ner. Mrs. Herbert Seitz will be in charge of the program. On the committee for the evening are Mrs. Louis Ruhl, Mrs. Keith Bates and Mrs. Glenn Linn. All members are asked to bring table service. letter OfDressPQ Mardi Gras King Namecl; Public Invited to Ball County Judge Rodney Keat inz will reign over the first annual Mardi Gras ball of Tudor guild as Rex I. A queen to share the reign will be chosen during the ball. Selection of the well-known Ashland man for the honor was announced last week by the Mardi Gras committee. The costume ball will be held Saturdav. February 15. at Senior Play Scheduled "Father of the Bride" a three-act comedy by Carolyn Franche based on the novel by the same, name by Edward Street, will be presented by Medford High school's senior class February 13 and 14. The play, to be given in the Medford High school audi torium, will be under the direction of Mrs. L e n o r e Zapell and Lynn Williams, student director. The cast, which was select ed last week, includes Mr. Banks, Jim C o r u m; Mrs. Banks, Sue Johnston; Tommy, Joe Lewis; Ben, Mike Forbes; Kay, Pam C o o k s e y; and Buckley, Die Corum. Other actors include Delia, Peggy Jackson; Miss Bellamy, Linda Smith; Pegg; Carol Mc Keown; Mr. Massoula, Bob Gee; Joe, Milton Smith; Red, Lynn Seger; Pete, Dick Rank in; Tim's arranger, Mary Pierce; Mrs. Pulitski, Sheila Couey; and Buzz, Jon Thomp son. Part of the production crew for the play has been selected. The play tells the story of a father during his daugh ter's engagement announce ment and the following wed ding preparations. 8 Music Teachers To Hold Meeting Rogue Valley Music Teach ers association will meet Mon day, February 3, at 8 p.m. in the choir room 207, in Church ill hall at Southern Oregon college campus. Louis Clayson, SOC facul ty member, will discuss "Ba roque Music." His talk will include vocal solos and mo tion picture on composers of that period. Mrs. Edla Peterson, presi dent, will introduce guests at the beginning of the meeting including Miss Helene Robin son, also on the SOC faculty, first vice-president and pro gram chairman of the Teach ers' association. All public and private music teachers are invited to attend. Officers of BPW Attend Meeting; New Club Formed Miss Voda Brower, presi dent of the Medford Business and Professional Women's club, and Mrs. Jean Mast, vice-president of the local club, last week attended the state winter board meeting of the Oregon Federation held in Pendleton, January 25 and 26. At the meeting the newly organized Ashland club was noted into the state federa tion. The charter for the club will be presented by Mrs. Margaret Gordon, Wescoma, state president, at a dinner meeting to be held in Ashland at the Plaza banquet room February 15. The Ashland group is sponsored by the Medford club. Valentine Dinner Set for Monday Miss Hazel Hansen, newly appointed chairman of Chris tian Business and Professional Women of Medford,' will pre: side at the monthly banquet of the group Monday, Febru ary 3, at 6 p.m., at the Hotel Jackson. This will be the "Valentine" meeting of the year, and men will be Invited to attend. The Rev. Haddon Robinson will be guest speaker for the evening. A program feature will be provided, and vocal music will be presented by Dr. and Mrs. Milton Snow. Any persons interested in attending the Monday evening dinner meeting are welcome. Past Matrons' Club Schedules Session Reames Past Matrons club will meet at the Girls Com munity club Monday, Febr uary 3, at 12:30 p.m. for a dessert luncheon followed by cards. Money earned will go to the scholarship fund for Oregon Shakespearean festival actors. Elaborate preparations are being made for the event, which Tudor guild hopes will grow into an annual and im portant social function in the valley. No reservations will be necessary, but tickets are on sale at Jean Hart's store and the Gates Furniture com pany. Plans for the Mardi Gras ball call for continuous music for dancing in the main din ing room of the Country club. Various special events will also be held in this room. A buffet supper will be served upstairs, and the committee states that revelers at the ball may have supper whenever they choose. Masks are mandatory. Those not in costume may wear formal attire, although dark suits and black ties will be permissible for men. The committee is hopeful that many will wear fancy cos tumes, and prizes will be awarded for the prettiest and most original attire. Masks are available at the Toy House in Medford. Two Mentalists Booked by Club Mr. and Mrs. Tom Tucker, two young American mental ists, will be guests of the Rogue Valley. Knife and Fork club Wednesday, February 5, at the Rogue Valley Country club. Using the subject of "Sh-h, Don't Think Too Loud ly," the couple will show the audience their ability to find out what their questioners are thinking about without even speaking a word to them. Dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m. prior to the pro gram and reservations should be made with Mrs. Richard House, 15 Corning court, Med ford, not later than Monday. The Tuckers .will also ap pear before the Siskiyou Knife and Fork club Febru ary 17 at the Plaza cafe, 23 North Main street, Ashland. f Farewell Party Given Thursday Mrs. Maude Walton, 16 Mistletoe avenue, was hon ored by a surprise farewell party at the home of Mrs. Ruby Mallory, 23 North Orange street, Thursday. Mrs. Walton is leaving Medford to morrow to make her home in Oakland, Calif. Games were conducted by Mrs. Irvin Patten and Mrs. Tom Nee. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Mallory, Miss Blanche Arnold and Mrs. W. Arnold. The group presented the honored guest with a gift. There were 24 Royal Neigh bors present for the party. Other officers installed were Mrs. Tom Anderson, vice-president; Mrs. Paul Jor genson, secretary; and Mrs. Louis C r a n s t o n, treasurer. Committee chairman named were Mrs. Paul McDuffee and Mrs. William E. Ruffner, hos pitality, and Mrs. William J. Peek, publicity. Valentine Dance Planned by Club A valentine dance and box social are planned by Wag- gin' Wheelers Square Dance club for Saturday, February 8, at the Square Corral, Camp White. Women attending the dance are asked to take a box lunch. Cake and coffee will be served. Dancing will begin at 8:30 p.m. with Douglas Decker as caller. All Square dancers are invited to attend. Temple to Hold Memorial Service A service in memory of members whose deaths oc curred the past year will be held at the next meetmg of Zuleima temple, Daughters of the Nile. It is set for Saturday, February 8, at 1 p.m. in the Masonic temple, Grants Pass. Central Charm School Final Session Set for Saturday Morning Final session of the Girl Scout charm school will be held Saturday, February 8, starting at 10 a.m. in the Roosevelt school gymnasium. It will be a fashion show with styles for every occasion being shown by Leon's Tots to Teens with Mrs. Parker Woods, manager, as commen tator. In addition it is planned to have each troop attending, participate by selecting two girls from the troop and hav ing them come dressed in' their own apparel showing the correct and incorrect way to wear clothes. Each troop has been assigned a type of garment to display, such as play clothes, school clothes, dress clothes, and so forth. At this session each troop will display some of the skills learned at the previous ses sion when Mrs. Ann Wirk kula of Lawrence's Jewelry store demonstrated correct table settings. Each troop at tending will bring a card ta ble, and make an arrange ment for a breakfast, lunch or dinner, including a center piece. To prevent loss through accident, the troops are not to bring china, but may use pa per plates of appropriate size, or may indicate the china- ware by drawing and coloring paper to represent the plates and cups. Each troop will also furnish a table cloth. The judging and award will be on Students to Wed In Summer Rites Prospect The Rev. and Mrs. W.
