TEN MEDFORD (ORZGOK) MAIL THIBTJNK Sunday, January 13, 1951 i w I r - " mm Wm I J J ) I ju fwtoJyS PtTi l n red ANOTHER scientist, Polish Dr. Jerzy Leon Nowinski, sought and was given asy ' lum in U. S. His family and ' he were given sanctuary in ' Baltimore. (International) Family Council Shelley M. Henry is floundering in his career. Henry M. I want to do . work I enjoy. . Shelter M. My husband and I have been married three years and have no chil dren yet. I would like to wait until he can get settled in a decent job before we start our family, but the prospect seems to get farther away all the time. Henry had a well-paying job when we got married, but he was very dissatisfied be cause he said his boss was nuts and didn't give him a chance to do things right. He took another job at less pay, saying he wanted to get a start in a new field, but he gave up that job because he began to feel it would lead to nothing. For the past year he has had a bunch of "stop-gap" jobs way beneath his ability and educational background. I think he should go back to his old field where he made the best money. Henry M. Shelley has be come a regular nag. All she thinks about is money, money, money. We haven't starved yet. I've been bringing home a weekly pay check, 10 I don't see what the big squawk is about. I am trying to get into some work I really enjoy doing. So ,...far I just haven't been able ' to land it, but I know if I keep trying, something will turn up. I think Shelley ought to be more cooperative. Things have been tough enough for me in the past few years and she just tears down my mo- . rale. She keeps throwing up at me how much better all . . my friends are doing and how I've just "gone to pot" job-wise since we've been " married. After all, I've got some feelings and it certainly doesn't help to hear things ..like that. - The Council: Well, we're all for happiness on the job and . L we're willing to agree that ::3noney isn't "everything," but we wonder exactly how much joy Henry expects to get at his work and how much he is willing to pay for it. ? . :.. If Henry made up his mind v ...that he is happiest doing a --.particular kind of low ,but ---adequate-paying work, we'd - - say he has a point. He 6hould, -. -..however, consider whether he is willing to sacrifice certain " . benefits for his family in the " interest of this cause. ... But when Henry looks for -- some undefined bluebird of happiness at his job and in- J . sists that "something will turn up" if he takes stop-gap, low-paying jobs long enough, we begin to worry. It sounds as though he has maneuvered himself into a painful, humil iating situation, from which he can dream about the never never land of a happy job. No, we don't think nagging is good for Henry's morale, but we think he should try to confront by himself some of the painful questions his wife raises. Why does he work for less and less pay, when he should be improving his skills and earning more as the years go on? Why does he work on a level below his ability and r educational background? Spe cifically, what form cf hap piness does he expect from his job? " - Henry needs to re-evaluate his situation and determine a 7 course that will bring him a - degree of success in some area.
