Rocket Look Promised This Year By MARY PRIME Uniled Press Correspondent New Yoork IP! Fashion points the way to the "rocket" look for 1958. We'll be as sleek and shiny as a guided missile from the tips of our hats to the pointed toes of our shoes. "The sack will be the main silhouette in 58, but it will look like a rocket instead of a rag." said Eleanor Lambert, spokesman for the New York Couture Group. "Chemises still will have a loose hanging line, but with a smooth, built-up shape. You may think it's a revival of the 1920 s, but it's only super related. Fashion history does n't repeat itself." Miss Lam bert said. Besides the chemise, semi fitted and full-skirted styles will be seen. "But th petti coat is dead. Skirts will be tightly sashed at the waist but not flared as much," she predicted, j Coats are expected to be straight and narrow or full and swinging, but not fitted. Hemlines will go up to at least 16 inches from the floor. (Last year they got as ( high as 15 inches). Taller Hats Hats will get taller. "With skirts shorter, hats must go up." reported the Mil linery Institute of America. "When you wear a chemise, you need good legs, a good face, and a good hat to frame the face." There's a 1920's look to new bonnets high crowns, deep brims. Turbans "will measure as high as 10 inches at the srown. Top styles will be turbans, rollers, and Wat teau types with brims rising sharply at the back. More color will show in hats, from mossy green to cit rus shades. But black, navy and the neutrals also will find favor. Fabric hats will still be good, but straws will pre dominate, either in rough or fine, smooth textures. Veils add a new patterned look to straws around the hat and tied at the throat. Colored hosiery gets the nod again this year. JSpring shades include, crushed mint, blue chip, navy, pink and tur quoise. No Spikes The pointed-toed shoe is an other hold-over from 1957. This year, heels will be even lower for evening as well as daytime. "And no spiked heels," said the National Shoe Institute." We'll see the T-strap in new forms: multi-colored on a basic color shoe, looped, or with vamp strips across the T. The open-toed, shoe also will be back "because the nail polish people have put sex on toenails. The she in dustry can't fight it," said Helene O'Hara, fashion direct or of a leather company (Al lied Kid). Week's Sewing Buy Look for lots of color in shoes, the two-color shoe, painted vamps, white soles, colored linings and "red in everything." j Jewerly will be less clanky I and heavy. The single strand I necklace is expected to come back. Hair will be bright and small, loose waves. Watch for more - tints, fewer bleaches. Top hair chades will be soft blonde, red, and bright gold.
