tiff' Xi jw-r ' I I Mrs. Lillian Salad (at left) and her sister, Mrs. Marjorie Pitts, took charge of arrangements for the annual New Year party of the Colony club, held last Sunday afternoon at the clubhouse on Geneva street. This is the annual guest event of the club, and about 75 attended. Colony club, formed in 1911, is one of the oldest organizations in the county for women and is both social and charitable in nature. Miss Beverley Diane Ellis Bride of Paul Miss Beverley Diane Ellis, 209 Tripp street, Medford, be came the bride of Paul Weert Worth, route- 2, box 202-C, Medford, in a ceremony held Saturday, December 21, in Holiday Ceremony Weds Pair Cave Junction A colorful Christmas day ceremony married Miss Shirley Ann Peninger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Peninger, O'Brien, and Russell Berkner, ' son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Berkner, Cave Junction. The double-ring rite was held at Immanuel Methodist church, Cave Junction, at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Robert Kingsbury read the services as the couple stood before an altar lighted with white tap ers. White wedding bells and satin bows, baskets of ferns and roses decorated the church. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin and lace. Her net veil fell from a coronet of satin and seed pearls and she carried a white Bible topped with an orchid. Her wedding costume included the traditional something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Robert Shawhan, accom panied by Ronine Rausch, sang as the wedding party entered the church. Matron of honor was Mrs. Richard Bliss, Brookings, who wore a white taffeta bal lerina length gown trimmed with lace. Her corsage was of Christmas red carnations. Miss Judy Collman, brides maid, also wore white taffeta with red carnations, as did the candlelighters, Miss Susie Lemmon, a cousin of the bridegroom, and Miss Karen Berkner, his sister. Richard Bliss, Brookings, was best man. Usher was Jim Peninger, brother of the bride. Mrs. Peninger chose for her daughter's wedding a tai lored dress of blue crepe worn with black accessories, and a corsage of white carna tions. Mrs. Berkner wore a black crepe tailored dress with matching accessories and a white corsage. Hostesses for the reception, held in the church parlor, were Mrs. Bud Hoskins, aunt of the bridegroom and Mrs. Robert Kingsbury. Mrs. James Allen served the cake, while Mrs. Marilyn Sams and Mrs. Norma Campbell pre sided at the punch and cof fee services. Mrs. Will Ben jamine had charge of the guest book. The bride chose for her wedding trip to San Diego j a blue knit suit with black ! accessories. I The new Mrs. Berkner j was graduated with the class j of 1955 from Illinois Valley ' High school and has been em-: ployed at the Bank of Illinois j Valley for two and one-half years. The bridegroom, also j a graduate of the local high j school, is stationed with the j U.S. Marine corps in San Diego, where the couple will live. Trobough of ficiated at the double-ring eight o'clock evening wed ding attended by 40 relatives and friends. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. E. A. Edwards, Port land, and Nine Ellis, Reed lane, Medford. Mr. Worth is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W.- J. Worth, route 2, box 202-C, Medford. Evergreens, white chrysan themums and white candles decorated the chapel for the ceremony. Miss Rosemary Doolen was soloist. The bride wore a ballerina length frock of chantilly lace styled on princess lines. Her short veil of illusion was held by a lace crown trimmed with seed pearl and she carried a white orchid on a white New Testament . loaned by the grandmother of the bride groom. She was given in mar riage by Mr. Edwards. Mrs. Rex Coggins attended the bride. She wore a blue sheath dress and carried blue carnations. Rex Coggins; served as best man and Le land Worth, young brother of the bridegroom, lighted the candles. Wenton Worth, an other brother of the bride groom, and Craig Walstead, seated the guests. Following the exchange of vows, the bride and bride groom were served commu nion. A reception was held in the Wesley room at the church following the wedding. The bride attended Med ford High school. The bride groom is employed by De Leigh Motors. Chapter BE of the PEO sisterhood will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, at the home of Mrs. Arnel Butler, 28 Barneburg road. Mrs. J. W. Annual Party Given Sunday By Colony Club An event of last Sunday, r December 29, was the annual New Year party of the Col- i ony club. Cocktails and lun cheon were served, beginning at 1 o'clock. Mrs. Marjorie i Pitts, president of the club, ! was assisted for the party by Mrs. Lillian Salade, social i chairman, and Mr. and Mrs. I Frank Preston. About 75 members and guests attended. Colony club is one of the i older organizations for wo men of the valley, having been formed in 1911. It was organized as a convenience i of women who lived on ran ches and orchards at a dis tance from town and who i were in need of a headquart ers or club rooms in Med ford. Headquarters were first in the Medford hotel; later an apartment in Cargill court was used and then the resi dence on Geneva street was purchased which the group still uses. With the improvement of personal transportation, the club members found that the original purpose was less im portant.. The club, small in membership, had always had a program of charitable work throughout the years the members have met once each week to sew for the Red Cross or other agencies. The club was one of the early supporters of the Jackson County Public Health associ ation, and has aided 'other civic projects. The clubhouse is used for parties given by the club as a whole, or by individual members. The late Mrs. Edmund Burke, mother of Mrs. Don Clark, was the club's first president and in some fam ilies, third generation mem bers now belong. Watch Service Held by League The Ladies Home League of the Salvation Army held a combined dinner, soldiers meeting, and watch night service Tuesday at 236 North Bartlett stree. Dinner was served at 7 p.m. in the Junior hall to Home League members, families and guests. Following the meal Captain William Ricken, com manding officer of the local Corps, reported on work ac complished in 1957 and fu ture plans for the group. A film on the life of Gen eral William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, was shown in the chapel. At 11 p.m. the watch night service was held conducted by Capt. Ricken. Temple to Hold Stated Session Zuleima temple, Daugh ters of the Nile, will hold a stated session Saturday, Jan uary 11 at the Masonic tem ple, Ashland, at 1: p.m. A tea is to follow the meet ing with Mrs. Foss Kramer as chairman. Miss Helen Hood, junior past queen, was installing officer, and Dick Callender, master councilor of Crater De Molay, officiated at the coronation. The new queen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.W. H. Askwith, 466 First street, Central Point. Mrs. Chandler Drew To Be Club Hostess Roxy Gardeners will meet Wednesday, January 8, at 1 p.m at the home of Mrs. H. Chandler Drew, 3528 Delta Waters road. The program will include a panel discussion on gardening. Hard Time Dance Planned at Camp Ladies' auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a hard time dance at the Camp White domicili ay Monday, January 6, in the theater. Prizes will be awarded to the two best old time or hard times costumes for both the men and the women. January 5, 1958 Groups Resume Rehearsals For Coming Concert Southern Oregon Philhar monic orchestra and the wo men's chorus of Ashland will resume rehearsals this week for their coming concert Jan uary 26. Richard Werner is the orchestra conductor and Miss Helene Robinson directs the chorus. "The Blessed Damozel" by Debussy will be performed by the orchestra with the chorus; Mrs. Ralph Matlack, soprano, and Lois Windsor, contralto, ,will be soloists and also on the program will be "The Carnival of Animals" by Saint Saens, which re quires soloists and the or chestra and two pianos. Angus Bowmer, founder and director of the Ashland Shakespearean Festival, will narrate verses by Ogden Nash in connection with the latter number. Mr. Werner said the orches tra is seeking a xylophone for use by a musician in the coming concert. He asked that anyone having such an instru ment call his studio at Spring 2-8761. Show Chairman Calls Meeting Rogue River Mrs. Esther W. Shock, chairman for the Rogue River flower show, to be held April 12, has called a special meeting of all club members, Tuesday, January 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Paul Hughes.
