This week in Manhattan Hen-pecking a husband begins ! early these days even before ; marriage. So reported Lester Rand, pres t ident of the Youth Research In , stitute, which studies the tastes, habits and thinking of the na tion's teen-agers. 1 Rand said some boys going j steady turn their allowances and earnings over to their girls to i manage, and the girls promptly ; put the boys on a budget. He j said this is only a '"brush fire" trend, for now, but other young ; people who have heard of the I custom think it's a good idea. 1 Other hen-pecking habits he j listed: Older teen-age girls go ! shopping with the boys and j have a strong, often final, voice ! in what is purchased; the girls be gin correcting the boys' appear ance and manners; some even talk their "steadies" into cutting sweet dessert wines afterward, down on sweets and smoking, and boss the hours they keep. 'The' husband of the future gives every indication of being completely housebroke," said Rand. "Most of the spadework is being done at a very malleable age." McColly said that at this time of the year, the institute is de luged with letters and telephone calls asking which wine goes with the bird. "It is proper to serve any din ner wine red, white, rose, still or sparking with turkey," he said. "All the old rules have been thrown out, and it's simply a matter of personal taste. But most of us seem to enjoy the drier dinner wines at mealtime, and of time." course, sherry at any Interior decorating still is largely a matter of do-it-yourself rather than hiring the profes sional, one study shows. Researchers for a tile flooring manufacturer talked with 4,200 home owners, in income brack ets from $8,000 to 825,000 a year, living in $18,000 to $65,000 homes. Some 72 per cent said they didn't use a decorator because of the expense involved. Four teen per cent gave a variety of reasons, from not knowing dec orator costs to not realizing what a decorator offers in service.
