Displays called attention to the various current studies and projects of the local, stale and national leagues. Mrs. Hugh Collins, Medford president of this non-partisan political education group, stands in front of the desk at right, tea cup in hand. Marry who attended the tea were viewing the handsome new Red Cross structure for the first lime. Designed by Harlow Carpenter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter, donors of Ihe building, the meeting room and chapter rooms are constructed of redwood paneling and heavy beams. Mm liiiipliisiip mSM Miss Earhne Soden (Brainerd photo) Sodens Announce Betrothal News Central Point Mrs. Violet Soden, route 2, box 81, Central Point, and Elmer Soden, Shady Cove, announced the engage ment of their daughter, Earline V. Soden, to Alan B. Curtis, Medford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger W. Curtis. Roger Curtis, who is employed by the United States State Department, and Mrs. Curtis are making their home in Bonn, Germany. Miss Soden is a graduate of Eagle Point Higrr school and the Medford School of Business. She is employed by the Oregon State Employment office. Mr. Curtis is a graduate of the University of Idaho and is with the Bureau of Land Management in Med ford. No date has been set for the wedding. 4 Orientation Tea Planned byBPWC Businss and Professional Wo men's club of Medford will hold an orientation class with a tea, Sunday, November 17, from three until five p.m. in the Red Cross building, Hawthorne st. The Medford group is spon soring a new BPW club in Ash land and the charter members have been invited to the tea as well as new members for the Medford branch. Miss Grace Stuhr will be in charge of arrangements. The next meeting of the BP WC will be Thursday, Novem ber 21, when initiation will be held. A dinner will begin at 6:30 p m. at the Girls Commun ity club, 229 North Bartlett street. Committees in charge include Mrs. Beulah Nathan, member ship, and Mrs. Genevieve Col lins, hospitality. Reservations may be made b calling Mrs. Collins at SPring 2-5214 or at her residence, SPring 2-7212. Pledge Ceremony ' Held by Chapter The pledge ceremony of Al pha Lambda chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International so rority, was held for Mrs. Robert Hays, preceding the regular meeting of the chapter last week. Mrs. Chester Peterson and Mrs. Lyman Smith conduct ed the ceremony. The parliamentarian, Mrs. George Ice, read the by-laws of the chapter and proposed by law changes, to be voted on at the next meeting. It will be held November 25 at the home of Mrs. Harold Clift, 1250 Ross lane. Hostesses will be Mrs. Projects, Events Planned by Group At Last Meeting Alpha Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi voted at a meeting November 14 to provide a Thanksgiving basket for a needy family. Mrs. David Legg will take charge of food collected. Mrs. Bob Norris was hostess for the evening and also in charge of ' the program "Prose II". She spoke of how to write a short story, and each member had 20 minutes in which to fol low her suggestions and write a story with 500 to 1000 words. A report was given on the baked food sale held at the Chin-Up club's annual sale, and on the Dogpatch party. A vote of thanks was given Mrs. Don ald Madden for the work she did on party decorations. Mrs. Herman Schroeder was elected representative to Beta Sigma Phi city council, replac ing Mrs. Bob Norris who asked for her release from this office. The next city council meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. William Tycer Nov. 18. The council plans a party November 22 at 8 p.m. at the new Red Cross building. All members of all Beta Sigma Phi chapters are invited. The Ashland chapters will be guests of honor. Mrs. Richard Riggs and Mrs. Harry Barker are co-chairman for the making of a chapter rit ual cloth. Mrs. W. G. Werner, Mrs. Fred Danielson and Mrs. Gerald True will assist in hand work to be done on it. A donation is being made to the Catalano Fund for hospital equipment to be used through out the valley. Monday, November 25 the chapter will meet at Mrs. Harry Barker's home, 1524 Lenora drive. Mrs. Fred Danielson and Mrs. William Werner will be cohostesses. Serving as Mrs. Norris's cohostesses were Mrs. William Singler and Mrs. Tycer. --4 Visitors Here Roger E. Card, Roseburg, spent Sunday and Monday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. O. San den, who moved into their new home on the Old Stage Rd. last summer. Mr. Card is now a sur veyor for the Department of Ag riculture at Steamboat, or II wild, 40 miles east of Roseburg. Preston J. Card, Klamath Falls, was also a visitor at the Sanden home recently. Meeting Slated By Sojourners Plans for the fall dinner dance will be completed and the nom inating committee introduced at the next meeting of Medford So journers' club. The meeting will be held at Girls' Community club Thursday, November 21, at 12:30 p.m. Dessert will be served. Women who have lived in Medford, not more than two years are eligible for membership. Returns Mrs. Anthony Boitano has re turned to her home on East Main street after spending a month in Omaha, Neb., with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gambee. Mrs. Boitano went to Omaha follow ing the birth of the Gambee's first child, a son, born Septem ber 28. The child has been named Anthony Mark Gambee. Mrs. Gambee is the former Shirley Boitano.
