Made with quick-cooking tapioca, it's a "cinch" to make and fun to eat. Peach Tapioca Cream 1 egp white 18 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons sugar 1 egg yolk 12 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups milk Canned cling peaches, sliced 3 tablespoons quick-cooking tapioca Beat the egg white until foamy. Add 2 tablespoons sugar and con tinue beating with egg beater until meringue stands in soft peaks. Set aside. Mix egg yolk, milk, quick-cooking tapioca, salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar in saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil (5 to 8 minutes). Pour a small amount of hot mixture gradually into meringue, blending well. Quicklv stir in re maining tapioca mixture. Add vanilla. Let stand 15 to 20 minutes; stjr. Serve warm or cold. Makes 4 or 5 servings. Arrange sliced cling peaches in sherbet glasses; cover with quick cooking tapioca. Garnish with-'additional peach slices. Is That So? In a well-run camp, three is always a fair division of labor. The chef, for example, never does the dishes. That's the bull- cook's job. To make that clean up job easier, here are some tips picked up through the years. Na rurally, some of these hints apply to the home as well. So you've got a deep jar or a jug that you can't get into. Even a bottle brush won't reach it. Then use small stones and peb bles (about the size of peas) to do the job for you. Pour in a little soapy water and put in the pebbles. Shake them around and around until the container is clean. You might keep the peb bles in a little jar and use them over and over again. To make your dishwashing job easier, scrape and stack your dishes first. Then wash them in regular order in a pot filled with hot water. Use a modern deter ent to cut the grease. First, wash your glassware. Then the knives, forks and spoons. Next your plates and finally your cooking utensials. The point is, wash the cleaner dishes before the dirt ier ones. To rinse your dishes, let them stand for about two minutes in hot, clean water. Add hot water as required to keep the washing and rinsing at an effective temperature. After Breakfast After-breakfast clean-ups can be made easier if all the dishes which have been used for eggs (or milk) are allowed to stand for a few minutes in clear, cold water. Then a quick rinsing read ies them for regular washing. If two cups or glasses get stuck together, fill the top glass with cold water and set both glasses in warm water. Then they should come apart easily. Never wash a wooden salad bowl. Just wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Use "flavors" the wood. To keep your thermos bottles clean and sweet, fill it with warm water to which a heaping tea spoon of cooking soda has been added. Do this at least once a week, letting it set overnight. To save time and hard labor with a burned pot, cover the burned part with a thick paste of soda and water and let it stand 10 minutes. Then add water and boil it for a few minutes. Or, if there is burned food in your pot, place salt in the bottom and put on the heat for a few minutes. The food residue should flake out with the salt. To come back to the use of detergents: don't use them for washing your cast-iron skillets. The grease-dissolving qualities ruin the finish of your carefully seasoned pans. And then the next time you use it, the food will stick. Instead, the well-seasoned skillet should be rinsed out with hot water and wiped with a wash-rag. Dry it with paper towels to prevent rusting. But should you have used the detergent, then to get the skillet back into shape sprinle salt in the bottom of the pan and heat it before using. Always brush out the salt with a dry cloth. This process may have to be repeated for several cookings before the pan can be used without the salt preparation. Oiling Utensils When can openers, egg beaters and other utensils need oiling for smooth operation, use glyce rine which is tasteless, harmless, and odorless. If coffee grains clog up the strainer basket of your percola tor, simply sprinkle some coarse salt into the strainer and run hot water over it. Takes only a jiffy. When aluminum pots turn dark inside fill them with water and add a quarter cup of vinegar or a slice of lemon rind and boil for a quarter hour. They'll come out mint-clean. Freight Rate Group Formed by Governors Salem (IP) An Oregon-Washington governor's freight rate committe was formed Wednes day as the result of a confer ence of Washinton's Gov. Albert Rosellini and Gov. Robert D. Holmes. The two met here to seek solu tion to the discriminatory east west freiht rate problem. For mation of the committee, follow ed testimony from public utilities and economic development lead ers. "I think it is up to these two states to spearhead this action," Gov. Rosellini said. His sugges tion was endorsed by Gov. Hol mes who proposed that the two governors, the two public utili ties chiefs and two development directors from the two-state com mittee. Immediate objectives of the committee will be to seek a re opening of class rates cases be fore the Interstate Commerce Commission and the elimination of percentage rate increases and other rate features they feel dis criminate against the Northwest. Nafwick Detained By Citizen Arrest Tommy Carlyle Natwick, 34, of 235 North Ivy st., was detain ed on a citizen's arrest on charges of disorderly conduct, and by the Medford city police on charges of being drunk in public, after he was involved in the breaking of a $250 glass door Wednesday night, accord ing to city police. Police said Natwick posted $50 bail on the drunk in public charges and another $100 for the disorderly conduct charges. They said Natwick had been ar rested on similar charges last month when he was involved in a fight and led police cars on a chase through city streets fol lowing an accident. Police said Floyd H. Brownell, 109 West Sixth st., who signed the complaint for disorderly conduct, told them. Natwick was escorted to the door of the Holland hotel, 109 West Sixth st., when he was refused service. Brownell told police as he turned to enter the lounge, he heard a crash and saw the door had been kicked. Natwick, who was held by an off-duty police officer, told police that Brownell had thrown him into the door.
