Whichever side you take, the prints produced by the famous firm of Currier & Ives live as colorful reminders of an America that is gone forever. This year . marks both the 100th anniversary of the founding of the firm and the 50th anniversary of its dissolution. During its half-century in business, Currier & Ives lithographed 7,000 subjects, some prints selling for just a few pennies. They were displayed in barber shops and hotels, in dingy tenements and sumptuous drawing rooms. Wherever they hung, Currier & Ives prints held up a mirror to life in the latter half of the 19th century.
