WALZER United Press Financial Editor New York W Bonds, after j long period of neglect, are coming into favor again in the inves t m e n t field. During the period when inflation v a s on. every tongue and money was being tighten ed bonds took second place to stocks. Stocks were supposed to be a good inflation hedge since their income was not limited like bonds. Bonds pay a fixed inter est which might not keep pace with the decline in the dollar, it was reasoned. Now bond yields are high and Inflation is said to be on the way down with deflation taking its place. In deflation, the best investments, say the experts, are the bond market and money. Get into cash, many advise. Not a few now are suggesting bonds. Standard & Poor's says high jrrade bonds are in a long term buying range, since seasoned corporation issues are selling to return approximately 4 per cent while new issues are being offered to yield 43.4 per cent or more. Standard explains that the present depressed state of the bond market stems primarily from tight money, augmented by the flood of flotations to fi nance expansion and other proj ects. Standard notes that the con census seems to be that the next fchange in interest rates. 'when ever it comes, is more likely to e downward than upward. The statistical firm notes that Respite the tempting high cou pon rates of new offerings, older bonds carrying low interest rates have certain advantages, chief of which is the latitude for capi tal appreciation. Depressed bonds will b paid off at maturity at par, standard notes, adding that if money rates ease in the interim, these bonds will rise in price. Standard carries a table of bonds selling in the 80s. that Is 80 per cent of par (S800 for a SI, 000 bond), many maturing some 14 years hence. Since full 100 per cent of par will be re ceived at the due date, buyers can count on capital gains rang ing up to 25 per cent. ''Obviously," Standard con cludes, '"the criticism that bonds do not offer protection against rising living costs cannot be leveled against issues of this type." Walston 8c Co. also anticipates a rally in the bond market be cause of the prospect of lower interest rates. Attorneys B47 Siratajef Crash Kills Four Occupants Miami, Fla. OP A B47 Stra tojet crashed and .burned on a Homestead Air Force base run way early today, killing its four occupants. Homestead AFB said the plane was taking off on a routine training mission around 12:17 a.m. and a few minute later crashed on the northeast end of the runway. Cause of the crash was not immediately known and names of the crash victims were with held pending notification of next of kin.
