SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Child Evangelism Fellowship Clubs Start Fall Meets Good News clubs, the interde nominational home Bible classes cf the Child Evangelism Fellow ship, began Wednesday with the release time class in the Com munity church at Butte Falls. This class will meet each Wed nesday from 3 to 4 p.m. The following Good News clubs will meet once each week throughout the school months: Monday, Sept. 16, at 2:30 at the home of Mrs. Eileen Patterson, Huener lane, Jacksonville; 3:30, Mrs. II. A. Berntson, 306 East E st., Jacksonville; 3:30, Mrs. Bev erly Reed, route 1, box 151, Beall lane; Wednesday, noon hour at the Community club in Phoenix, and Thursday, 2 to 3 p.m , two release time classes in Gold Hill. The Child Evangelism teach er's training class for Jackson ville will meet at 10 a.m. the first and third Wednesday of each month in the home of the ' director, Mrs. H. A. Berntson The training class for Medford and vicinity will meet each Thursday at 10 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Nina Gain, city director. Visual aids for memory vers es, visualized songs and flannal graph are used.tft teach the chil dren's Bible lessons. The public is invited. First Methodists Tell Subjects "What can I do as a Church man?" will be the subject of the Christian Churchmanship inter est group led by Dr. George G. Roseberry, at the Sunday even ing School of Christian. Living, being conducted at the First Methodist church. Dr. William D. Bray, will teach the interest group, Japan and Religion. Next week will be Japan and its Re ligions. In the interest group, The Revelation of John, the group will work on the historical back ground concerned with the time of the writing, as well as a study of the text of the book. The Rev. G. A. Trobough will lead this group. Mrs. Anne J. Gorby will conduct the second session of Inquirer's Seminar. Miss Karen Sloniger will have the alto solo in the -anthem, "In cline Thine Ear," at the 9:30 a.m. service of worship at the First Methodist church, Medford. Mrs. J. C. Kaylor will be soloist for both services, singing, "Grateful, O Lord, Am I." The anthem at the 11 a.m. service will be, "Now Let All The Heavens Rejoice." "What Makes a Church Great?" will be the sermon by Dr. George G. Rose berry, minister. Congregational Starts Two Services Sunday marks the beginning of the fall schedule at the Con gregational church with two separate worship services and church school sessions. These are scheduled at 9:45 and 11 a.m. The growth of the church made it necessary to hold two services last year. During the year the church school then grew so much that the facilities became overcrowded. This year there are to be two sessions of it as well. Last Sunday the superinten dent of the Sunday school, Mrs. Richard Tra-is, conducted pro motion exercises. Sunday the classes will meet in regular ses sions starting the new quarter's material. The sermon by the Rev. Thomas McCamant will be on "Saving Money," second in a series on "Aspects of Salvation." Adveniisis Schedule Week's Meetings "The Master's Touch" will be the subject of the Missionary Volunteer meeting scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Med ford Seventh - day Adventist church. Regular meeting time for the Medford Pathfinders has been changed from Tuesday nights to Monday nights at 7:30. The group will meet at Rogue River Academy as usual. Members are preparing for the annual Path finder Fair to be held Oct. 6 at the Eugene Fairgrounds. O. V. Fellows will be guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship service Saturday. NEW OFFICERS New officers for the Med ford Ministerial -association conducted the first fall meeting of the group this week. Other offi- Presbyterians Tell Services For Sunday and Week Ashland Two morning serv-Jtion arrangements will be made ices have been authorized by the session of the First Presby terian church, Ashland, to begin the' first Sunday of October. Time for the identical serv ices will be 9:45 and 11 a.m. Baby care will be provided at both services. Sunday school will meet at 9:45 a.m. in all de partments at the same time the first service is meeting. Adjustments to the new pro gram will be made as they be come necessary. Sunday the pastor, the Rev. B. J. Holland, will preach on "You and Your Problems" at the 11 a.m. worship service. Central Point Dr. Norman K. Tully will preach on "A Pure Church a Growing Church," at the 9:45 a.m. service at the First Presbyterian church, Central Point, Sunday. Dr. D. Kirkland West will continue his present series of sermons at the First Presby terian church Sunday morning on the theme "Bible Characters I Wish I Had Known." This week he preaches on "David A Man After God's Heart". The West minster choir will sing "Lord God of Sabbaoth" at the '9:45 service, and the Chancel choir will sing "Treasures in Heaven" at the 11 a.m. service. Robert Wright, baritone, will sing the solo "Just for Today" at both services. A churchmanship class will be taught at 5 p.m. for instruc tion in basic Christian doctrine for prospective members of the church. The Rev. John Reynolds will teach, the class on the sub ject "The Bible the Word of God." This class is open for all who are interested. In the evening a youth wor ship service will be held at 7 p.m. for combined high school and college age students. After this period of hymn-singing and prayer the Geneva fellowship for college students will meet to consider plans for continuing the fellowship throughout the winter months. The Westminster fellowship for high school students will have its installation of new of ficers for the coming year. Of ficers to be installed are: mod erator, David Frohnmayer; vice moderator, David Carter; stated clerk, music, Sue Moore; trea surer, Miss Shirley Rutherford; Christian faith commissioner, Robert Lichti; withness commis sioner, Miss Sandra Clark; out reach commissioner, John Flan agan; fellowship commissioner, Jim Corum; and citizenship com missioner, Jim Fontaine. Phoenix Otis Swisher of the Medford Presbyterian church will preach at the Sunday a.m. service at the Phoeniv Presby terian church. The following Sunday Robert Brewer will speak to the congregation. From 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday the Sunday school teachers and workers of the junior, junior high, intermediate, high school nad adult classes will attend a meeting at the Presbyterian church in Ashland. Transports- Sermon Series Continues at Eastwood "God is Spirit" is the title of the third sermon in a series un der the general title "Ten Laws of Life" being given by the Rev. Richard M. Jones, pastor of the Eastwood Baptist church, North Keene Way dr. at Ridgeway. The worship service begins at 11 a.m. This series of sermons is intend ed to bring out the relevance of the Ten Commandments for our day. Eastwood Baptist' church is lo cated north of Hedrick Junior high and is affiliated with the American Baptist convention. An intensive study of the Jife of Christ is being given on Wed nesdays at 7:30 p.m., at the church. The general theme of the study is "Portraits of the Master." Mr. Jones is leading the study to which the public is invited to attend. Friday, September 13, 1957 Sunday morning. Rally day will be held by the church on Sunday, Oct. 6. The Rev. W. Bruce MacHenry Vicar Assumes Duties At Two Area Churches The Rev. W. Bruce MacHenry was recently appointed vicar of .the Church of the Good Shep herd, Prospect, and St. Martin's, Shady Cove. He will live in Prospect. Following their arrival here, the MacHenrys were entertained at a picnic by Mr. and Mrs. Hes ton Grieve and Mr. and Mrs. Lou Rogers and their families. The Rev. Bob Grieve family formerly of Prospect, and now of Astoria, were guests. The new vicar comes here from Hugofield, Okla., with residence at Blackwell. He is married and has one daughter. Mr. MacHenry was born in Philadelphia, Pa., and attended schools there and Wolsey Hall, Hamilton, Ont. He was ordained a deacon in June 1954 and priest in December 1954. Advenfisls Explain Stand on Sunday Labor "The Seventh-day Adventist church," Elder C. A. Scriven, president of the Seventh-day Ad ventist North Pacific Union con ference, said recently, "stands for a complete separation of church and state." "In several areas in the North west during recent months pub lic statements of the Roman Catholic church have been fol lowed by attempts to pass city and state laws forbidding busi ness and secular labor." He added that the Adventists do not challenge the right of the Roman Catholic church to ad vocate no work on Sunday as long as it applies only to ad herents of Catholicism. He ex plained that Adventists were op posed to any future attempt at legislation whose purpose is to enforce by law the closing of business on Sunday or any other day of the week." Congregation To Hear Missionary Sunday Dr. William Bray, missionary recently returned from Japan, will be guest speaker Sunday at the 9:30 a.m. worship service of St. Luke's Methodist church. He will speak on "Christianity in Japan." The meeting will be held in Bingham hall at the county fairgrounds. At noon the guests and mem bers of the congregation will hold a covered dish dinner at Hawthorne park. Committee Chairmen Named at Meeting Chairmen were announced for five committees of the Medford Ministerial association at 'their first fall meeting held Tuesday at the First Presbyterian church, Medford. Chairmen and committees in clude the Rev. Haddon Robin son, radio - television; the Rev. Ray Hurn, program; the Rev. William Piper, special services; the Rev. George A. Trobough, hospital chaplaincy; and Dr. D. Kirkland West, public relations. Reports were given by the Jackson County Board of Chris tian Education and work done by the association during the summer was reviewed. The association is open to ministers of all denominations and churches in the area. Meet ings are held the second Tues day of each month. Church to Increase Budget in Canvass In an effort to double its op erating and benevolence bud get the First Methodist church of Medford is currently engaged in organizing a group of 200 couples who will call in the homes of members and friends during the convass period from Sept. 23 to Oct. 6, it was an nounced today by Richard Fan ger, general chairman. Dr. George G. Roseberry is pastor of the church. Associat ed with him are the Rev. George A. Trobough and the Rev. Anne J. Gorby. Chairman of various commit tees are Richard Fanger, gen eral chairman; Ben Schmidt, prayer; Walter Higgins, general canvass; Mrs. Gorby, prospects; Dave Doran, promotion; Mrs. Jessie Minear, arrangements; O. P. Taylor auditing, and John Kent special pledges. All part icipants in the canvas will work in couples as husband and wife teams. The regular finance commit tee of the church is in charge of the convass with Robert L. Baccus, chairman. Rector to Celebrate Three Anniversaries Celebrating this year the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the sacred priesthood, his 25th wedding anniversary, and his eighth anniversary as rector of St. Mark's Episcopal church in Medford, the Rev. George R. V. Bolster has invited all his parishioners and friends to join him in commemorating these events at any of the three ser vices at the church Sunday. The holy communion will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and morn ing prayer with sermon at 9:30 and 11:00N a.m. A coffee hour will be held immediately fol lowing the 11 a.m. service. Mr. Bolster was ordained to the priesthood in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1932 and served seven years in Saskatchewan and Eritish Columbia before coming to Bend, Ore. in 1939 where he was rector of Holy Trinity church intil Sept. 1949 when he became rector of St. Mark's. He and Mrs. Bolster were married at St. Alban's Cathed ral, Prince Albert, in 1932 where she had held the position of assistant secretary of the Diocese of Saskatchewan.
