Advenfisls Explain
Stand on Sunday Labor
"The Seventh-day Adventist
church," Elder C. A. Scriven,
president of the Seventh-day Ad
ventist North Pacific Union con
ference, said recently, "stands
for a complete separation of
church and state."
"In several areas in the North
west during recent months pub
lic statements of the Roman
Catholic church have been fol
lowed by attempts to pass city
and state laws forbidding busi
ness and secular labor."
He added that the Adventists
do not challenge the right of the
Roman Catholic church to ad
vocate no work on Sunday as
long as it applies only to ad
herents of Catholicism. He ex
plained that Adventists were op
posed to any future attempt at
legislation whose purpose is to
enforce by law the closing of
business on Sunday or any other
day of the week."
