Connaughton kept his precarious perch for more than two hours before heeding the urging of a newsman and climbing to safety. Bulls Do Very Well For Many Years in Wall Street Market By ELMER C. WALZER United Press Financial Editor New York OP) For a long time there were those kind souls who felt sorry for the m ' . 1 hears in Wall Street who were being sque e z e d by steadily rising prices. Then came a turn and some who saw the bears gloating! over their good fortune Ebner Walzer began to feel sorry for the bulls. Market men point out that the bulls have done very well for lo these many years. For a long time they had a one-way market in their favor. If one takes April 28, 1942, as the start of this bull market the average then was 92.92. That same Dow-Jones average had touched a record high Sept. 3, 1929, at 381.17 and a low July 8, 1932. at 41.22. It had rallied to 194.40 March 10, 1937. Some, say this bull market started June 13, 1949 when the industrial average was at 161.60. No matter where one puts the beginning the rise has been a big one to above 520 April 6, 1956, August 2, 1956, and again July 12 of this year. The experts say the bull mar ket still is here. There are ortho dox ways for a bull market to die and this one hasn't con formed with the rules. Hence it still lives. Harris, Upham & Co. says the bulls have done well during the past eight years and should not object to this pause. That could put our economy on a sounder basis. While this is going on, the firm adds, a trading policy is likely to produce most profitable results. Harris, Upham, like several other firms, looks for a 520-420 trading range. State Police Attend Session in City Hall Reviewing latest methods, on-the-job training and a refresher course were on schedule for sev eral Oregon state police offices yesterday in a session at the Medford city council chambers. Supervising the class was H. G. Maison, head of state police. Maison said the class was an all day affair which will be held once each month in every dis trict of the state to inform of ficers of new ideas and review other work. Most of the Tuesday session was on fish and game rule in forcement. COMMUNISM A THREAT Washington IIP) Chairman Francis E.Walter (D-Pa.), of the House Committee on Un-American Activities said Tuesday Communism remains a serious internal threat to the United States. Faubus of Arkansas is shown as he appeared on a national television program during which he answered questions concerning Little Rock's Central High School where Negro students have been denied admission. The governor said he was using state troops at the school to preserve peace and not to prevent integration.
