(3FTER I DO) LET HER TOUCH HIS SCOTCH 6R4lN,MD ' W4R IS DECLARED GOLD HILL Council Holds Meeting Gold Hill At the last regular meeting of the Gold Hill city council, Mayor Ernie Cooper, in cooperation with the state fire marshal's program issued a proc lamation that the week of Oct. 6 through 12 be designated as "fire prevention week." In compliance with a request from the director of the county civil defense, the council favored the transfer of $132 to active city funds for the purchase of two atomic fallout measurement in struments. The council decided not to give permission to a request to pasture goats within the city, since the goats might soon have to be declared a nuisance and the owner would then be faced with the problem of disposing of the animals. The city recorder was directed to advertise that the city is in terested in purchasing a used crawler type tractor with hy- draulic angle tilt blade, not less than 40 drawbar horsepower, direct diesel starting, and unit constructed. Sealed bids will be received until 5 -p.m. Sept. 26. Due to many complaints re ceived by the council concern ing unsanitary conditions which exist within the city, the council decided to notify the owner, sug gesting that unsanitary condi tions be corrected within 10 days. Supt. Floyd Taylor reported that in addition to routine duties, other work accomplished during August included completion of the painting of fire hydrants; doors at the fire hall were paint ed; city hall windows cleaned; two large trees were removed from city streets: and work was done on the " new Seventh st. opening. Jr. and five children returned to their home following a month's visit with her parents at their home on North Pacific highway. Mr. and Mrs. Ormond N. Birk land of Denver, Colo., are ex pected to arrive soon for a visit in the home of Mr. and Mrs. MacLeod Maurice. Recent house guests in the ' home of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Kofahl for one week were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. McMasters and chil dren, Sally, David, Tom and Catherine, of Menlo Park, Calif. Day is spending a 30-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Day and his sister, Miss Sharon Day, at their home on the Upper River rd. He and four other Marines arrived in south ern Oregon following overseas duty, where they were stationed with the Marines on Okinawa for 10 months and five months in Japan. Also spending his fur lough at the Day home is Cpl. John Elfink, whose home is in Ohio. Pfc. Daryol Hines went on to his home in Arlington, Wash., following a short visit at the Day home. Pfc. Jim Keen and Pfc. Ronnie Keen, whose home is in Jacksonville, also visited at the Day home. Marine Pfc. Truman Price Jr. was expected to arrive in Gold Hill early this week for a visit in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Truman O. Price, and his brother Johny. He has completed the Naval Reserve Officers Training course at the Naval preparatory school at Bainbridge, Md. He is eligible to attend any college of his choice on a Navy scholarship, bo he will enter Oregon State col lege Sept. 22, according to his mother. Upon graduation from the college he will be commis sioned as a second lieutenant. Truman graduated from Cra ter High school in 1955. Attend ed one semester in pre-engineer-ing at Reed college in Portland before enlisting in the Marines Jan. 3, 1956. After his enlistment he went to electronics school at San Diego, Calif., and Treasure Island. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore were hosts recently to a surprise birthday dinner party for tneir Hanehter. Mrs. Herb Edwards, who observed her birthday Sept. 4. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards and sons, Brad and Doug, of Marys ville, Calif., spent the Labor Day week end as guests of her parents. The Edward's daugh ter, Karen, returned to Marys vill'e with her parents following a three-week visit in the home of her grandparents. The Moore's guests for the party included Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Maple and son, Steve, of Cen tral Point, and Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Greb of Medford, and the visitors from California. Mrs. Maple, Mrs. Greb and Mrs. Edwards are the former June, Nadra and Yvone Moore. Mr. and Mrs. William Day and daughter, Miss Sharon Day, and their guests, Pfc James H. Day and his friend, Cpl. Daryol El frink of Ohio, spent five days recently camping at Diamond lake. Mrs. Verna Albert of Chilo quin and Mrs. Bert Stephenson, Grants Pass, were guests at the Earl Moore home last week end. Mrs. Albert is a sister of Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Stephenson is their mother. Miss Cheryl Scrader returned to her home in Auburn, Calif., Aug. 28 following a two week's visit in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Bower. Mr. and Mrs. Tad Blouin and family moved to Hood River last week to make their home. The Blouins had resided in Gold Hill the past two years. Visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Malone and fam ily last week were his brother- in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ekkleboon and family of Citrus Heights, Calif. The Ek kleboons were house guests of her Barents. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Childers, at their home on Bird- sey creek while they were in southern Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Melford Hood went to Jefferson, Ore., last Fri day to visit in the home of her mother, Mrs. Frank Jones. Their daughters. Helen and Susan, who I had been visiting Mrs. Jones, re turned home with the Hoods Monday, Sept. 2. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Walker and her sisters. T Home Appliance Go. Medford Ashland CENTRAL POINT School Officially Opens By DORIS HUGHES Central Point School offic ially opened in the Central Point schools Monday morning. Jewett Elementary school had an enrollment of 283 students. A total of 802 students enrolled at the Central Point Elemen tary and Junior High schools. Last year the number was 755. At Crater High school the number enrolling was 620. The number is low because many working students have not as yet enrolled, school officials said. The total number of students registering in district 6C is 2,066. Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Smith of Crater Rock museum and Rob ert Bitterling, Pomona Grange master for Jackson county were in charge of the Jackson County Pomona booth at the State Fair. The booth was a display of fruits and vegetables from the county. After attending the State Fair, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Smith went to Tacoma, where they at tended the North West Federa tion Rock show. They also went to Seattle where they visited Mrs. Smith's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ogle Young. On the way home, they stopped at Albany, where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Petty. They re turned to Central Point Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Abbott and Tommy were vacationing last week at Victoria, British Columbia. Miss Laurel Higinbotham, who who has been employed in Seat tle, Wash., is home for a 10-day visit with her family, the C. W: Higinbothams of Taylor rd. Aft er her visit, Miss Higinbotham will return to Seattle Pacific college for the fall term. Miss Miss Laurel Higinbotham went with her family and Miss Velma Mayfield to Diamond lake where they spent three days vacationing last week. Mr. and Mrs. Art Fitzgerald and children recently took a trip to Alberta, Canada. They went to the Prairie Bible insti tute .at Three Hills, where they visited Mr. and Mrs. James Mills. Mills, who formerly lived in Central Point, is employed at the college. The Fitzgeralds also visited the Rev. and Mrs. Rolf Hansen and children in Spok ane, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. George L. Wil moth and family of Whittier, Calif., visited recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Higinbotham, Mrs. Higinboth am is Mrs. Wilmoth's sister, in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Scott and Mrs. Wilmoth's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Scott. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Harvey and sons, Billie and Bobbie, of Central Point and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Harvey of Medford spent last week end at the coast. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Abbott have sold their place on South Fifth st., Central Point, and purchased a home near Gold Hill on the North Old Stage rd. They moved to their new home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE SEVEN Music Mart Purchased Blaine E. Trickel recently purchased the Music Mart, 111 West Main st., from Ron Rice. Trickel has been store mana ger at the Mart for the past four years. He was employed by the John Morrell and company as a route man before starting at the Music Mart in 1953. Rice will assume duties as the band director of the Howard school upon returning from a vacation in Canada this week. He was owner of the store since 1951. Gold Hill purchased the C. W. Abbott home and moved here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Royal Green man gave a dinner Sunday hon oring their son, Ralph Green man, on his birthday. Those at tending were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Greenman and children, Cherry and Ralph Jr. of Talent, Royal Greenman Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Royal Greenman of Cen tral Point. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Tharp, Dennis Loper, and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Minor and children, Lanny and Lynn, spent last week end at Diamond lake. ON PRIVATE VISIT Rome HP) Mrs. Clare Luce, former U. S. ambassador to Italy, began a one-week pri vate visit here today before moving on to West Germany. Mrs. Luce arrived by air Tues day night for the visit, her first to Italy since she resigned her ambassador's post last fall. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Scott gave a dinner party in their home on Thursday evening. Those attend ing were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Higinbotham and children, Mr. and Mrs. George L. Wilmoth, Mr. and Mrs. J. W.
