Mrs. Van Horn is the former Miss Coralee Roseberry. daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George G. Roseberry, 113 North Ivy street, Medford. Dr. Roseberry and the Rev. Paul Jewell, brother-in-law of the bride of Portland, officiated at the ceremony. The bridegroom is a student at Willamette university and is assistant pastor at the Salem Trinity Methodist church. (Steimonts photo) To Be Hostess St. Catherine's Episcopal guild will hold the first fall meeting in the garden of the Fred Lorish home, Monday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. I. E. Schuler, who has traveled extensively in Europe, will give the program. Hostesses will be Mrs. John Axtell, Mrs. William Leever and Mrs W. K. Johnson. PRESCRIPTIONS FILLED AT j&S&DRUG THEY'RE SO DEPENDABLE Flower School To Be Three Days Mrs. Wesley Foumal of Port land will lecture on flower show practices and horticulture of gladiolus at the opening ses sion of the flower show prac tices school - starting Tuesday, September 10. Mrs. Foumal will speak at 9:30 a.m. During the afternoon" session Mrs. Doris Winters, also of Port land, will speak on flower ar ranging. At the Wednesday sessions starting at 9 a.m: annuals, dah lias, and point scoring practice will be discussed with flower ar ranging scheduled in the after noon from 1 until 3 p.m. The final day of the school, Thursday, September 11, will be for those taking the examina tions with a flower show set up for judging, point scoring and records. Those attending the school must register by 9 a.m. at the Central , Point grange hall on Tuesday and are asked to take a sack lunch for noon. Those interested in auditing either the morning or afternoon sessions are invited to attend. Degree of Honor Plans Meeting Monday Night Degree of Honor will meet Monday, September 9, at 8 p.m. at Redman hall. Mrs. Edith Elli ott and Mrs. Katherine Pitts will be hostesses for the evening. Last Thursday Medford mem bers attended guest night at Ashland. Two Parties Given For Miss Stafford Two recent parties have hon ored Miss Evalyn Stafford, whose wedding to William John Crocker is set for Friday, Sep tember 13, at St. Marks' Epis copal church. The bride-elect is a daughter of Col. and Mrs. Charles E. Stafford, Westerlund drive. Mrs. Edward F. Bolt was host ess for a luncheon Tuesday which honored the bride-elect. Invited to the party, held at the Bolt's home on North Pacific highway, were Mrs. Dorothy Dowson, Mrs. H. D. Poston, Mrs. Paul McDuffee, Mrs. C. O. Love joy, Mrs. E. N. McKinstry, Mrs. William Caldwell, Mrs. L. G. McLaren, Mrs. Ward V. Ham mond, Mrs. George Gates, Mrs. George R. V. Bolster, Mrs. Shel by M. Tuttle, Mrs. C. Elwood Hedberg, the honored guest and her mother. Following luncheon Miss Staf ford was presented handker chiefs and linen. Asters deco rated the Bolt home. Wednesday evening Mrs. C. O. Lovejoy was hostess for a party in compliment to the bride-elect, inviting 12 guests to her home on Old Military road. Miss Stafford was present ed a shower of miscellaneous gifts for her new home. Arrangements of garden flow ers decorated the Lovejoy home. 4 Nurses Plan Institute Here An institute sponsored by the Office Nurse section of the Ore gon State Nurses' association will be held in Medford, Wednes day, September 18. AH register ed and practical nurses are in vited to attend. The institute begins at 1 p.m. and the first half of the meeting will be a panel discus sion, moderated by Mrs. C. Ivan Bur ton, on "Interpersonal Rela tions." The participants will rep resent various phases of the medical-nursing field, and seek to explore means by which re lated medical groups can best work together to achieve better patient care, it Is announced. Following the panel discus sion State Senator Phillip Low ery will speak on the subject, "Legal Aspects in Nursing." A no-host dinner will be held at the Medford hotel at 6 p.m. Mrs. Bertha G- Byrne, execu tive secretary of the Oregon State Nurses Association, is to be the speaker. For the evening program Ralph E. Hibbs, M.D. will give a paper on "New Drugs" and Merle Foldand, M.D., will talk on ,rUse of Hypnosis in Medical Practice." The meeting place is to be St. Mark's Gunild hall, 212 North Oakdale avenue, and registra tion will start at 1 p.m. District Four of Oregon State Nurses association, will meet at Sacred Heart hospital Tues day, September 10 at 8 p.m. Miss Gertrude Molloy will re port on the meeting of the Inter national Council of Nurses in Rome last May. 4 ;.:::. -j Miss Audrey Hite Engagement Told At Recent Parties Mrs. W. B. Smith, 1597 Camp Baker road, Medford, announced the engagement of her daugh ter, Audrey Hite, to Richard J. Lopez, 66 Clover lane, Medford, Sunday evening, September 1. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Lopez, of El Paso, Texas. The immediate family cele brated the engagement Satur day night, August 31, at a dinner party at Mon Desir before an nouncing it Sunday at an engage ment party. Approximately 25 guests attended Sunday. Miss Hite, a junior at South ern Oregon college, will con tinue her studies there. She was editor of the college paper dur ing her sophomore year and this year will edit the Oregon Federation of Collegiate Lead ers' Bulletin. She attended Phoe nix public schools. Mr. Lopez will enter Univer sity of Oregon Dental school this fall. He attended El Paso public , schools and Southern Oregon college. At SOC he was a member of Theta Delta Phi, men's honorary society, and served as secretary to the or ganization during the past year. No date has been set for the wedding. 4 Junior Auxiliary Installs Officers Miss Gloria Jean Thompson was installed commander of the Junior auxiliary to the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary at the August meeting at the home of Mrs. Harvey Cassman. Other officers installed were Miss Dorie Mae Grissom, senior vice-commander; Miss G u d y Guss, junior vice-commander; Miss Jo Carol Grissom, chaplain; Miss Donna Faye Thompson, treasurer; Miss Sharon Simmons, conductress; Miss Annette Jones, sergeant-at-arms; and Miss Cyn thia Simmons, patriotic instruc tor. The juniors were presented corsages made by Mrs. Harvey Cassman and Mrs. Everett Gris som. New members in the organiz ation include Misses Donna, Con nie, and Elaine King. The shower was held at the home of Mrs. C. R. Alexander, 110 Almond street. Pink and white flowers deco rated the rooms for the event and a miniature wedding party made of dolls was displayed. The dolls were made by Mrs. Alexander and Miss Delores Sanderson and loaned for the occasion. Miss Sanderson is the bride elect of Jack William Pech, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pech Sr. of Lakecreek. The wedding will be held Friday, September 27, in St. Mark's Episcopal church. Sally Lee Pepper, Corporal Sloan Engaged to Wed Central Point Larry L. Pep per, 557 Bush street, Central Point, announces the engage ment of his daughter, Sally Lee, to Corporal James W. Sloan of Houston, Texas. Miss Pepper is a senior at Crater High school. Mr. Sloan attended Regan High school in Houston and is now serving with the United States Army at Fort Richardson, Alaska. No date has been set for the wedding. 4 Meeting Planned Wednesday Night By Mineral Club Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral club will meet Wednesday, Sep tember 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Red man hall, Fourth and Apple streets. Sapphire is the birthstone of the month and those planning to attend should take stones with them. The group held a picnic in Hawthorne park recently. Enter tainers at the event were Miss Lois Young, Monte Noble and Miss Rae Burritt. The group also sponsored a display at the Town and Country fair. Miss Darlene Smith Darlene Smith And Wilson Lane Engaged to Wed Mr. and Mrs. Lenord Smith, 20 Jeannette street, Medford, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Darlene, to Wilson Lane, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rose, 1175 West McAndrews road, Medford. Miss Smith is a graduate of Medford High school and attend ed Southern Oregon college. Mr. Lane attended Medford High school and is a seaman with the United States Navy. No wedding date has been set. The last few meetings have been devoted to organization of a creative writing class to be offered by the extension depart ment at the beginning of the college year. Dr. Charles Ruff, an instructor and writer from the University of Oregon campus in Eugene, will come to Med ford for the weekly night class.
