Smith, 519 Park street, Wednesday eve ning to complete plans for the annual herb luncheon to be held Thursday, September 5, at 12:30 p.m. at Mon Desir Dining Inn in Central Point. Members may invite guests, and reservations must be made not later than Tuesday, Septem ber 3rd. Reservation chairman is Mrs. L. P. .Rentchler SP 2-6090; transportation chair man is Mrs. E. M. Svitalc (Brainerd photo) Couple Married In Ocean Lake The Congregational churcn in Ocean Lake, Ore., was the set ting Sunday, August 18, for the wedding of Mrs. Gloria Smith and Robert S. Reaves. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs R. L. Bailey, 1462 Poplar drive, Medford. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Reaves, 3107 Table Rock road. The Rev. Paul Dickey offici ated at the 12:45 o'clock double ring ceremony. For her wedding the bride chose a beige silk sheath dress with matching coat. Her cor sage was of yellow rosebuds and lily of the valley. Mrs. J. R. Ellis, Medford, at tended her sister. She wore a green and white print silk dress with black linen coat and a cor sage of pink rosebuds. Mr. Ellis served as best man. The bride is a graduate of Ca bool, Mo., High school and has been employed as a bookkeeper by the Sloan company in Med ford. The bridegroom is a gradu ate of Medford High school and attended the University of Ore gon. He is life underwriter for the Great West Life Assurance company. Following a trip to the Ore gon coast the couple are making their home at 703 South Keene way drive. Navy Mothers Club Announces Meeting Rogue Valley Navy Mothers of America club will hold an all day meeting Tuesday, Sep tember 3, starting at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. James Wicker, 809 Adams lane, Medford. Svitak, who were married July 20 in Medford Friends church, are making their home in Mer ced, Calif. The bridegroom, an airman first class in the United States Air Force, is stationed at Castle Air Force base. The bride is the former Susan Christine Stephenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer B. Steph enson, 2535 Tennessee drive, Medford, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Kauf man, 511 Kenwood avenue, Med ford. The double-ring ceremony was read by James Higgins, Friends church pastor, in the presence of about 50 friends and relatives of the couple. Mr. Stephenson gave his daughter in marriage. The bride's gown was of white lace over pale pink taf feta designed on princess line and with a full skirt. Her veil was of lace and she carried a nosegay of white carnations with pink rose buds. For travel ing the new Mrs. Svitak wore a tan suit with matching acces sories. Miss Myrna Pfnister was honor attendant. She wore a white sheath frock and carried a nosegay of white carnations and yellow rosebuds. Al Bohanan was best man for Mr. Svitak. Mrs. Higgins played the wed ding music and Miss Kay John son was soloist. Baskets of white gladiolus and roses decorated the church. A small reception at the Stephenson home followed the ceremony. Mrs. Bohanan poured punch and coffee and Mrs. Rob ert Brown, sister of the bride, served the wedding cake. Mrs. Sandra Landers, aunt of the bridegroom, took charge of the guest book. The bride has been a student at Crater High school, and the bridegroom attended Medford schools before entering the USAF. Church Rites Wed Lela Fitzgerald, Raym ond Miller Ashland Miss Lela Mae Fitzgerald became the bride of Raymond E. Miller in a cere mony held Sunday, August 25, at the Church of the Nazarene in Ashland. The Rev. R. W. Hohn officiated at the double ring one o'clock afternoon cere mony attended by 14 relatives and friends. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Beulah Wheeler, 138 North Main street, Ashland. The bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Elton E. Miller, 662 B street, Ashland. For her wedding the bride wore a powder blue sheath frock with navy blue duster and matching accessories. Her flow ers were pink rosebuds. Miss Pat Gibson attended the bride. She wore a pink frock with white carnation corsage. David Athanas served as best man. Following the ceremony a re ception was held at the home of the bride's mother. Mrs. Ern est Gibson cut and served the wedding cake while Miss Dianne .Gourley poured the punch. After a wedding trip to the coast the couple will make their home at 217 Fourth street, Ash land. The bride attended Ashland Senior High school. The bride groom attended Boise, Idaho, High school and is employed by the Ideal Supermarket. Portland Woman Honored at Party Given by Group' Mrs. W. J. Hendryx of Port land was honored with a birth day party Wednesday evening prior to the duplicate play cf the Riverside Bridge club. Mrs. Hendryx is the daughter of Mrs. Josephine Clark, Medford, and is visiting in her home. High scores for the evenings play were won by Mrs. W. W. Stevenson and Mrs. Clark in the north-south position while Mrs. Berg Marten and Mrs. Ann Ran dall were top in the eastwest position. Other players and their scores in the north-south position: Mrs. Fred Purdin and Mrs. Clifford Howard, second; and Mrs. Paul Hatton and Walter Humes, third. In the east-west position were Mrs. M. M. Herman and Mrs. Jack Beamon, second; and Mrs. Robert Elliott and Ray Pruitt, third. Twenty-six members attended. . Ruth Rebekah Lodge Plans First Session Following Vacation Jacksonville Ruth Rebekah lodge of Jacksonville will meet ! Monday, September 2 at 8 p.m. ; Mrs. Lois Fretwell, noble grand, j will conduct the session, first meeting of the group after a two months' vacation. Besides reports, and routine business, the memorial cere mony of draping the charter will be conducted in memory of the late Laura Taylor. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. Lewis Merland Tycer Tycer- Griffith Ceremony Held Wednesday at Church" The marriage of Gail Gatter Griffith to Lewis Merland Tycer took place Wednesday, August 28, in Medford's First Presby terian church. Dr. D. Kirkland West read the ceremony at four thirty o'clock in the afternoon. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred M. Gatter, 28 South Groveland avenue, Med ford, and Mr. Gatter gave his daughter in marriage. The bride groom is a son of Mrs. Herbert Dean Tycer, Eagle Point. For the rites the bride wore a dress of pink brocade with coral colored chiffon sash. She carried her mother's white Bible with a cluster of smoky pink small orchids and white orange blossoms. Her headdress was of velvet bands to match her sash. Mrs. Kenneth Phillips of Med ford attended the bride. She wore a frock of green taffeta with a tussy mussy bouquet of coral colored fashion rosebuds and pink garden blossoms. The bride's young cousin, Miss Karen Solbakken, Napa, Calif., and her small daughter, Chris tiAn Griffith, entered the church with the bridal party. Miss Sol bakken wore a frock of green taffeta and carried a tussy mussy of pink and coral flowers. Little ChristiAn wore a pink taffeta dress and carried a miniature bouquet of pink and coral blos soms with tiny wedding bells. Gene Bowles, Pendleton, Ore., was best man for Mr. Tycer and ushers were William T.- Daw kins, Ashland, and Kenneth Phil lips, Medford. Miss Priscilla West played the wedding music and the church decorations were pink arid coral gladiolus and pink candles. The reception for 150 guests was held in the Gatter's home and garden. Mrs. Kenneth Camp bell and Mrs. Herbert" Seitz served the wedding cakes, Mrs. Lawrence Buonocore and Mrs. William Peek poured punch and the bride's aunt, Mrs. Ivar Sol bakken, assisted. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Gatter wore a frock of blue embroidered satin with matching satin hat and blue lace shoes. Her corsage was of pink and white orchids. The bridegroom's mother wore a frock of creamy beige lace over taffeta with blue hat and corsage of pink and white orchids. The reception decorations were in pink, and arrangements of gladiolus decorated the rooms of the Gatter home. The tradi tional figurines atop the wedding cake were story book dolls dressed by the bride's mother in clothing matching that worn by the bride and bridegroom. Mr. Tycer and his bride are spending their honeymoon at San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, Calif. For traveling Mrs. Tycer wore a sheath dress of peacock blue with gray satin tweed duster. The bride attended Med ford High school, Oregon State college and Southern Oregon col lege. The bridegroom attended Eagle Point High school and the University of Oregon. Here for the wedding were Easy to own-easy Dr. William Shea and Miss Cath erine Shea, Portland; Mrs. Helen McPeek and Miss Bonnie Mc Peek, Alturas, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Tycer, uncle and aunt of the bridegroom from Walnut Creek, Calif.; and Mrs. Lawrence L. Nichols, Redmond, grandmother of the bridegroom. In recent weeks a number of parties were given for the cou ple. The bride-elect was honored at a shower given by Mrs. Ken neth Campbell and Mrs. Herbert Seitz at the Campbell home, and Mrs. Kenneth Phillips also was hostess for a shower honoring the bride-to-be, inviting guests to the Phillips home. Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Buon ocore were hosts for a dinner which honored Mr. Tycer. - Californians Wed In Nevada Rites Hornbrook Mr. and Mrs. John M. Griffin are making their home in Hornbrook follow ing their wedding in the Little Chapel in Reno. Nevada, Mon day, August 26. The bride is the former Mrs. Katherine Kettle well, formerly of Eagle Point and Hornbrook. The newlyweds spent five days in central California visit ing Mrs. Griffin's daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robertson, in Sacramento. Her other daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rukovina, make their home in Medford. Thursday evening the Griffins were honored at a party attend ed by 38 friends. 4 August Meeting Held by Artists; Pictures Named Southern Oregon Society of Artists held the August meeting in the Employees' building at Camp White. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Curtright, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marinec, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morgan and Micheline Eyerly. Picture of the month for Bar ker's store is an oil entitled "Debby," by James Eyerly. Med ford Public library will show an oil by Louis Wilson called, "Bread of Life," and Hadley's will have an oil by Mrs. Ada Castillo entitled, "Gateway to HeU's Canyon." Medford Paint Store will show an oil by Eli zabeth Sheffield and another oil by John Henderson called, "Eve ning Colors." The meeting ended with paint ing and sketching by artists who brought work and materials. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Sheffield and Mrs. Even sizer. Chapter to Meet Chapter. Sunday, September 1, 1957 Minister Jo Speak For Council Dr. William Bray, Methodist missionary to Japan, will speak for the annual Mission Institute sponsored by the Medford Council of Church Women. It is to be held in First Christian church Friday, September 13, beginning at 10 a.m. Mrs. Wayne Troxell, chair man for the day, states that a noon covered dish luncheon will be served with the hostess church serving hot rolls and coffee. Other church groups are to bring salads, hot dishes and dessert enough for their own at tending members. Young mothers wishing to at tend may leave their children in the care of a nursery at tendant. Study books for the year are to be renewed during the morn ing period and work shops con ducted for further discussion, it is announced. Studies this year will be largely concerned with problems of minority groups. One outstanding book, states Mrs. Troxell, is titled 'Kingdom on Race Beyond Caste". This book, written by Liston Pape, was new off the press last year. All books discussed during the session will be for sale at the close of the afternoon. Assisting during periods of devotion will be several new ministers in Medford churches. Dr. Bray, who is presently on furlough from the mission field of Japan, will tell of his work and experiences among the Japanese people. He will return with is family to Japan after nis year's furlough. Theme for the day will be "Japan Christ The Church and Race." The local council takes pride in the fact that through efforts of its legislative chairman and her committee, Mrs. Harlan P." Bosworth Jr., it has been responsible for some foreward movement in Indian welfare in the state. Affairs of the Klamath Indians has been a deep consideration during the past two years of the council members. Bosworth Jr., 2425 East Main street, and her father, O. V. Myers, 20 Ashland avenue, have returned from a vacation trip through northern and cen tral Oregon. ' While in Salem they visited the William Hughes family, Mrs. G. C. Blower, and Mrs. Frank Brown and were guests of the Walter Root family in Portland before visiting the James Mor row family in Pendleton. The Morrows recently moved from Medford. Mrs. Bosworth and Mr. Myers later attended a family reunion in Arlington. Present for the gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Hulden, Mr. Myers' sister and brother-in-law. were the Hulden's two sons and their families and thirty other members of the family. Prior to returning to Medford by the way of John Day and Prineville, they stopped in Echo at the home of the Rev. Thomas J. Dixon, former associate pas tor of the First Methodist church here.
