Mounties Overwhelm Beavers 13-5 With Eight Runs in Eighth By JIM HEALY United Preti Sports Writer 4 The Vancouver Mounties, playing desperate baseball in or der to stay in contention for the PacUic Coast league pennant, unleashed a flash flood of runs ..against Portland Thursday night that should give the Beavers eighth-inning shudders for some time to come. Luis Marquez hit a two run - homer for Portland in the sev enth frame to tie up the impor tant game 5-5. At that moment it looked like the Beavers just might pull it off. But about five minutes later the roof fell in. . Buddy Peterson, Chuck Dier ing and Jim Marshall hit con secutive homers off reliefer Darrell Martin for four runs. Then the rest of the Mounties pitched in to add four more tal lies and run the score to 13-5 where it stayed until the game's end. Becord Tied The roundtrippers tied a Coast league record 'for consecutive homers off the same hurler. Oakland managed it against Portland in 1952 and Salt Lake did it to Vernon in 1923-. Despite the booming win, Vancouver remained fouf and a half games behind San Fran cisco, which came from behind , to dump San Diego 7-5. In other . games Hollywood beat Sacra mento, 7-2, and Los Angeles whipped Seattle by another lop aided 13-5 score. The Seals lackadaisical much of the time, also let It be known that they are playing for keeps. San Diego took the initiative in the sixth when a four run out burst to put it in the lead, 5-4. Then in the seventh, after the tying run had crossed borne plate, Grady Hatton whanged a single into left field that brought home the two run win margin. Kiely Wins 19th ' Leo Kiely won his 19th game against four losses after taking .over from Bill Prout in the sixth. Loser Hank Aguirre, who played his last game in the PCL, moved to the' Cleveland Indians with a 6-13 record. Bennie Daniels won his 16th game of the year, giving the Solong only five hits while driv ing in two Hollywood runs him self. The biggest inning of the game was the fourth, when the Stars collected four on three walks, two singles and a two run double by Pete Naton. Mar shall Bridges (9-15) lost the game and was replaced in the fourth by Mike Coen. Two rookie pitchers, Steve Watson and George Michaels, gave up a total of 14 runs to the Angel lineup.
