The testing program offers advanced courses to students who show special aptitudes in various fields while the special education program is devoted to the proper orintation of prob lem and mentally retarded chil dren. County elementary supervisor Bruce Hitt advises teachers, with the school administrator, on problems in elementary ed ucation. The county supervisor works with state and local of ficials on standardization and evaluation of prevailing cur ricula, and submits progress re ports to judge the efficiency of present studies. -Hitt ..also car ries on the duties of curriculum coordinator. The audio visual aids department, includ ing the school-owned educational film library, valued at $15,000, and the department of public in formation and service is headed by Jim McDonald. In the face of an increasing school population and a rapidly expanding education program, a close link between state and local school districts must be maintained. The county school superintendent's office preserves this link in its capacity as co ordinator, consultant, and In termediary between the districts. It offers a wide range of services of considerable interest to Jack soft county residents and educa tors and works with professional and lay groups. The county office posts notices of proposed changes in school boundary lines and notices of the operating budgets of the rural school board .and the non high school board. A continuing audit is made of all office ac counting as well as the books of the school district clerks. Another function of the county school office is to distribute publications of the state depart ment of education. These public ations acquaint teachers-and the public with new and improved concepts in instruction and guid ance . of students. These books and booklets can be purchased by interested persons either from the state department of educa tion or the county school sup erintendent's office. Other services of the county school office are teacher place ment, transportation systems, textbook selection and cooper ative purchasing.
