T. Brannock, who is in charge of the local VA office. Libraries are becoming meet ing places for a wide variety of activities that bring mental pa tients together in an effort , to achieve what doctors call "so cialization," the ability to "snap out" of themselves and mingle with others. .' "Socialization" is often the first step to recovery, Brannock pointed out. VA libraries conduct discus sion groups on current events or literature. Some hospital libra ries also have been conducting quiz games for patients on such topics as geography, history or current affairs. . The libararies also serve as meeting places for-special inter est groups such as stamp and coin clubs and drama groups. Such activities, along with book circulation, are performing an immeasurable amount of good in returning the mentally ill to nor mal life, Brannock said.
