Kes terson, Route 2, announce the marriage of their daughter, Marlene Mae. to William Aries, Redding, Calif. The ceremony took place in Reno, Nev., May 30, and the newlyweds are liv ing at 1758 Gold street. Redding. Mrs. Aries, a graduate of Med ford Hieh school with the class of 1954. attended Southern Ore- con college for a year and then attended Shasta Junior college in Redding for the past two years. Mr. Aries, a son of Mrs. Mary Markwick. Redding, served in the United States Air Force for four years. He was graduated from Shasta Junior college and is a hydraulics engineer. The bride's aunt and uncle, Mrs. Vera Broderick and Rob ert Carey, were hosts for a sur prise shower honori"" the couple July 14 in Redding. The serv ing table was laid with a hand made Irish linen table cloth made by the bride's great grand mother 60 years ago, and cen tered with a wedding cake taken from Medford for the occasion by the bride's parents. Attending the party were Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Broderick, Walnut Creek. Calif., Mrs. Dory Carey. Miss Lillie Carey, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carey, all of Chico, Calif., and Ross Shanna han. Red Bluff. Calif. Patricia Strader In Wedding Party Miss Patricia Strader was in Portland yesterday for the mar riage of Miss Betty Manuel to Charles Daugherty of Mollala, Ore. The ceremony took place Saturday night in Centenary Wilbur Methodist church, and Miss Strader was a bridesmaid for Miss Manuel. Both are mem bers of Delta Gamma sorority. Miss Strader left for the north Monday, and in Eugene was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Byrne before continuing to Port land Thursday. Boley became the bride of Allen Jay Reed in a ceremony held Saturday, July 20, in Meeker Memorial chapel, First Methodist church, here. The double-ring rites were read at 6:30 o'clock in the evening by Dr. George Rosebeury, pastor of the church. A small group of relatives and close friends were present. The bride wore a street-length frock of silver gray brocade with fitted bodice, three - quarter length sleeves and a, full skirt. Her hat and slippers were white and her corsage was of white carnations. Mr. Reed and his bride will live at Sunny Valley, Ore. The bride, a daughter of the late Ralph D. Boley of Vancouver, Wash., has been a reporter for The Medford Mail Tribune for more than a year and has lived at 610 South Holly street. She attended Clark college, Vancou ver, and is a graduate of Pacific university in Forest Grove Mr. Reed attended Southern Oregon college and is a graduate of the University of Oregon. He is employed by Pickett and Bar bee Logging company - at Wolf Creek. In September the couple will move to Eugene where the bridegroom will begin graduate study in anthropology at the uni versity. He also was at one time a reporter for The Mail Tribune. Picnic Announced For Two Families The Houston and Rodgers families will hold their annual picnic Sunday, August 4, at TouVelle Park, s-t a r t i n g at 11 p.m. All members of both families and their friends are asked to attend the picnic. S. Heatherington. The Heathering tons have sold their home on Black Oak drive and will leave Wednesday to live in West Linn, near Portland. Earlier this month Mr. and Mrs. Richard House gave a din ner for the Heatheringtons at their Corning court home. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ste phen Mosher, Mr. and Mrs. John Kent, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gilbert son, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Jen sen, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Skerry of Ashland, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ewaldsen and the honored cou ple. Bridge followed dinner, and the group presented the Heath eringtons a gift. Another dinner was given by Mr. and Mrs. Gilbertson at their home on Vancouver avenue. Guests for this event in addition to the Heatheringtons were Mr. and Mrs. House, Mr. and Mrs. Skerry, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Duncan and the John Kents. Last Sunday evening Dr. and Mrs. John Price invited the Heatheringtons and Mr. and Mrs. Kent to their home, 2404 Hillcrest road, for dinner. Thursday evening Mrs. Ever ett Faber was hostess for a cof fee which honored Mrs. Heath erington, entertaining at the Fa- Student Awarded Two Scholarships Douglas Cummings, 1957 grad uate of Medford High school, has been awarded the American Marietta Customer's scholarship, an announcement from Oregon State college states. The schol arship is for S250. The student, who will enroll at OSC this fall to study chemical engineering, had previously won a lesser state scholarship from OSC, but has relinquished it in favor of the second.' Young Cummings, an honor roll student, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cummings, 1900 Cherry heights. In addition to his interest in science and en gineering, young Cummings is a musician and has studied both piano and organ for a number of years. Last winter he served as organist for three Medford churches. Mrs. - Lee Maloy Honored at Party Prospect Mrs. Lee Maloy, the former Miss Nancy Darrohn of Trail, was honored July 12 at a bridal shower in the home of Mrs. Earl Millard. Co-hostess for the group of about 30 friends and relatives was Mrs. Richard Walls. Mrs. Ray Maurer assisted in serving refreshments. Out of town guests included the bride's aunt, Mrs. Walt Hill man, Santa Anna, Calif.; and the bridegroom's aunt and cous in, Mrs. Marion Carter and Mrs. Frank Carter, Ashland. The Maloys were married June 25 in Reno, Nev., and are making their home in Prospect. Speakers' Group Installs Officers At Annual Picnic Medford Toastmistress club entertained husbands at a picnic supper held Tuesday in the yard at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Vander Steen, 126 Clover Lane. Next meeting will be a similar affair at the home of Mrs. C. A. Thatcher, August 12. Mrs. Vivian Harlin, San Fran cisco, and Miss Adabee Seller were guests for the Tuesday evening event. Officers for the coming term were installed by Mrs. Thatcher. They included Mrs. Effie Kurtz, president, who received the president's pin; Miss Anna Streed, vice-president; Mrs. F. W. Dorigan, secretary; Mrs. Don Bergman, treasurer, and Mrs. Clarence Wilson, club represen tative. Each officer wai presented a gold and blue corsage. Mrs. Vander Steen received a past president's pin for her service the past year. Mrs. Kurtz appointed the fol lowing committee chairmen for the next term: Mrs. Vander Steen, program; Mrs. Arnold Bohnert, speech contest; Mrs. Wilson, public relations; Mrs. John Marler, education; Miss Streed, membership; Mrs. Willis Williams, publicity; Mrs. Earl Sands, telephone; Mrs. Thatcher, hospitality, and Mrs. Harry Mar shall, parliamentarian. Mrs. Marshall acted as toasts mistress, introduced by Mrs. Sands. Mrs. James Welch and Mrs. John Schroeder were speakers for the evening. Miss Streed, topicmistress, chose "A Picnic I Well Remember" as the theme for speech topics. Mrs. Sands gave a review of the book "America Before Co lumbus"; Mrs. Welch read ex-1 cerots from the book The Dur-1 able Fire", and Mrs. Schroeder spoke on "How Toastmistress Helps the Entire Family." Another party which honored Mrs. Heatherington was given by Mrs. Floyd Lewis. Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Heatherington are both past presidents of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, First Methodist church, and guests for this luncheon were for the most part also past presidents of the society. The group presented the honor guest a life membership in WSCS. Both Dr. and Mrs. Heathering ton have been active in First Methodist church and other re ligious and civic groups of the city. Last term Mrs. Heathering ton served as secretary of Rogue Valley Knife and Fork club. Ceremony Weds Miss Janet Pool To Michael Phair Miss Janet Pool and Michael Phair were married in a cere mony at the First Methodist church Friday, July 12, at 8 o'clock in the evening. The Rev. George Trobough officiated. The bride is a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Pool,- 1402 Morrow road. Mr. Phair is the son of Mrs. Jean Kennedy, Salem. For her wedding the bride wore a tan linen suit with white accessories. Mr. Pool gave hi daughter in marriage. Families of the bride and bridegroom at tended. Both Miss Pool and Mr. Phair attended Medford High school. He is employed by the Medford YMCA.
