The board deliberated for 43 minutes before returning its verdict against the airman from Corter, Colo. Wheeler faces a possible sentence of six months imprisonment and a bad con duct discharge. The sentencing was scheduled for later today. Wheeler, a former member of the U.N. Far East Command Honor Guard at Pershing Heights in downtown Tokyo, was tried on charges growing out of his refusal to get a hair cut in which the sides of the head are shaved, leaving fringe on top. On the board trying him were a lieutenant colonel, two majors and a captain. The colonel and the majors went through the first three sessions of the court martial with long hair that needed trimming. Today they turned up with neat, fresh trims. Only the cap tain, who had started with a crewcut, showed no evidence of visiting a barber shop. He still needed a trim. Wheeler had termed the white sidewall haircut "ridiculous" and said it made him look "idiotic" and like a "shaved jackass."
