111 " ": Huot Fiiher (Landis-Shangle photo) Band Director Accepts Texas Position in Fall Ashland Huot Fisher, band director at Ashland High school for the past two years, has ac cepted a position as woodwind instructor and associate band di rector at Lamar State college in Beaumont, Texas. Fisher will also be the prin cipal clarinetist with the 80 piece Beaumont symphony or chestra. Lamar State college had a to tal enrollment of 5.600 during the last year and had a music department of about 80 students. Returning from a recent trip to the college. Fisher spent two weeks at the Asilomar confer ence grounds in Pacific Grove, Calif., and attended a workshop for symphony orchestra conduct ors sponsored by the American Symphony Orchestra League and the Rockefeller foundation. A 90 piece orchestra was as sembled for the workshop and was composed of musicians from 20 states, Canada and two south American countries. Mr. and Mrs. Fisher will move to Beaumont later this summer. While in southern Oregon Mr. Fisher was a member of the Southern Oregon Philharmonic orchestra. Shirley Lynch Chosen as Adult Leader for Tour Miss Shirley Lynch, Medford, now visiting relatives in Wies baden, Germany, has been ac cepted as one of four adult leaders of a bicycle tour spon sored by American Youth Activities. Miss Lynch, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Lynch, 139 Kenwood avenue, left Med ford June 16, and plans to re turn in September to enter her senior year at Lewis and Clark college. This week, leiders of the tour are spending a weekend "getting in shape"' for the ride. July 16 they will travel by bus with a group of young people to the border of Denmark, and start on the bicycle trip through that country and Holland. They carry tents, sleeping bags and clothes changes and will camp out in approved Denmark camp sites. The bicycles are rented for 23 cents per day. Activities Set By Navy Mothers An all day picnic is planned by Navy Mothers of America at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 in Lithia park, Ashland. Members are asked to bring their own service for the pot- luck lunch. Mothers and wives of naval, marine and coast guard personnel are invited. The club will sponsor a card party in room 218, Camp White veteran's auxiliary at 7:30 p.m. Wednes day. July 17. Ladies should bring pics for refreshments. State Official To Pay Visit Monday To Olive Rebekahs Olive Rebekah lodge will con vene Monday. July 15, at 8 p.m. in the Odd Fellows hall. State President Mary Barker will pay her official visit at that time. Preceding the meeting will be a no host dinner at the Hoi land hotel dining room at 6:30 p m. There will be a district meet ing at Jacksonville at 9 a.m. July 16. Those planning to stay for the luncheon are asked to bring cookies. Hayes Cogg ins-Hayes Wed In Methodist Evening Rites Baskets of white gladiolus and candles with green fern and white ribbon decorated the First Methodist church Sunday, June 30, for the eight o'clock evening wedding of Miss Ruth Ann Cog- gins and William Cleve Hayes The Rev. John F. Groth of Bie- ber, Calif., uncle of the bride. officiated . at the double ring ceremony assisted by the Rev. George Roseberry. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Cog gins, 1329 Beekman road, Med ford. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Miller, South Republican City, Kan., and has been making his home in Central Point. The bride wore a gown of im ported Chantilly lace and tulle over satin fashioned with fitted bodice and a full skirt that term inated in a chapel train. Her fingertip veil was held by a crown of pearls and sequins. She carried a bouquet of stephanotis encircling a white orchid on a white Bible. Her cameo pin be longed to her maternal grand mother. She was given in mar riage by her father. Miss Jacquetta Cabler, Bould er Creek, Calif., was maid of honor. She wore a green nylon lace over taffeta frock with a sash of matching chiffon. Miss Elsie Miller, sister of the bride groom, Mrs. Paul C. Coggins, sister-in-law of the bride. Miss Earbara Stamper and Miss Karen Henderson, Yreka, Calif., were the other attendants. They wore frocks similar to the honor attendant in lavender, blue, yel low, and pink and they carried cascade bouquets of white glad iolus and pink rosebuds with ribbons matching their frocks. Miss Cheree Paulazzo and Miss Vivian Coggins, cousins of the bride, were candlelighters. They wore pink nylon lace over taffeta frocks with pink sashes. Flower girls were Sylvia Cog gins and Janice Campbell. Their dresses were of pink and white nylon over green taffeta with matching sashes of green chiffon. All of the dresses worn by members of the wedding party were made by the mother of the bride. Little Terry Schulr was ring bearer. ' Eugene L. Coggins, brother of the bride, came from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, to serve as best man. Paul C. Cog gins, brother of the bride, Nor man Alexander, Gwen Wyatt, and Richard Hibdon seated the guests. Kenneth Harger, uncle of the bridegroom, was soloist and Miss Sue Donna Doolen played the organ wedding music. Following the ceremony a re ception was held in the church parlors. Mrs. Ralph Coggins cut and served the wedding cake assisted by Mrs. Kenneth Harger. Mrs. Leland Coggins and Mrs. John C. Henderson poured the coffee, and Mrs. Thomas Harger and Mrs. Merle P. Miss Ham mond and Mrs. Paulson are neices. Miss Hammond did exchange teaching in Australia last winter and there met the Chambers. All three persons are now tour ing the United States. They have visited Yosemite and Se quoia national parks in Cali fornia, Grand Canyon in Ari zona, and Crater Lake park in Oregon. Sunday. (Knackstedt photo) Phoenix Club Installs Officers Phoenix The Phoenix Lions and auxiliary held joint instal lation ceremonies last month at the Ashland Elks temple. John M. Cook was installed as new president of the Phoenix Lions and Mrs. Ernest James as new president of the auxiliary. Other officers for the Lions were Roy Herndon, first vice president; Elmer Faytinger, sec ond vice-president; A. N. Mrs. Thornton Arnold, club chairman, read the Washington, D.C. news. Two members were reported to the club. The meeting closed with a penny drill and a variety of readings. Mrs. Wliliam T.
