The Edward Inman family spent last week camping at Dia mond lake. The John Bohnert family of Central Point and the Mclvin Williams family of Grants Pass joined them for a Fourth of July celebration. Dr. and Mrs. Wayne Roberts and children have returned to their home after a months vaca tion. They journeyed as far east Vacationing in Washington last week wen Mr. and Mrs. Eloy Sutton and children. Dr. Mrs. Hazel Anderson, of Tonas ket, and at the home of Sutton's parents, the James Suttons, at Okonogan. They also visited other relatives and friends in Washington. Recent visitors at the E. R. Yocom home on West Pine st. r Mr. and Mrs. L. C. (Tiny) La Force. They are former resi dents now living in San Jose. Calif. Roberts attended Alumni Day at the University of St. Louis. They also attended the weddings of two of Mrs. Roberts' nieces. The Roberts' daughter, Andrea, was ring bearer for one of the weddings. Ohio Stale Revises Scholastic Standard Columbus, Ohio If" Ohio State University trustees have adopted a revised set of rules that wil require a higher schol astic average for graduation and better work from students from the first quarter on, starting next fall. Tlie new rules require a stu dent to have a point-hour 'ratio of at least 2.0 or a C average, compared to the current 1.8. A major change is the require ment that freshmen make at least .75 in their first or second quar ter or face possible dismissal. Current rules permit a student to continue in school until the end of the third quarter when he must have .a 1.5 average or face dismissal. The trustees said , the change will continue under the old rules. The revision of the academic standards followed a studv. TRAVELING LODGE Gardiner, Me. Link unplugged a hole in an old gourd and found a note say ing the gourd had been grown by "Sammie Butler in Franklin, Ky., in the year 1890." Don't Say "Hello" Say "FILTER-FLO" Don Piatt of Medford are spend ing a week at the beach. They are leaving their trailer house in Crescent City, and motoring to different points along the coast. Mrs. A. B. Mead spent the evening of July 4 visiting at the home of Mrs. Cora Ball and her son, Willard Ball. Mr. and Mrs. Royal Green man spent Saturday in Grants Pass on business. On the way home, they stopped in Gold Hill and visited the Bob Morris fam ily. The -Morris family formerly lived in Central Point. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Britton and daughter. Karon, spent the Fourth of July week camping along the Oregon coast. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Winkle who lived near Tolo have pur chased the Eli Davis place north of Central Point. They moved recently. Mr. and Ms. Louie Cropp 'of Central Point have moved to the Winkle place near Tolo. Mr. and Mrs. Ell Davis are living in the Louie Cropp's house while they are building their new home. Visiting at the C. B. Cordy home is Vernon Page from the Panama Canal Zone. He has been attending the University of Florida, and is in this area for the summer with the forest service. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Leon ard and children of Snowy Douglas Harsh, who was in jured fighting the grass fire in the Camp White area Saturday, is reported quite well. He was injured when a part of the equipment slipped while the firemen were filling the tanks. Melvin Harsh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merril Harsh, is driving a logging truck for the summer. He will return in the fall to Linfield college, where he is a student. Mrs. E. C. Faber has as a guest in her home her grandson, Don Mitchell, of Concord, Calif. While Don is visiting his grand mother, his parents, the J. C. Mitchells are vacationing at Shasta lake. Mrs. - Mitchell is Mrs. Faber's daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Burl C. John son of Eureka, Calif., returned Sunday after visiting relatives and friends in the Central Point area. Johnson is the son of Mrs. Millie Johnson. They are former Central Point residents. Helman and daughters Bremerton, Wash. from Several residents were at Crescent City and Brookings July 4. They were Mrs. Millie Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Johnson and children and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Hughes and chil dren of Central Point, Mr. and Mrs. Burl C. Johnson of Eureka, Calif., Terry Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Simmons of Medford. Terry Simmons stayed over the week end as a guest of Keith Smith who was vacationing with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clar ence Smith of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Burkhart and family vacationed in north western Oregon last week. They visited at the home of Mrs Burkhart's brother, Mr. and Mrs Frank Berglund. On the way hame, the Burkharts stopped in Portland to visit their aunt, Mrs. Mary Lampert. Mr. and Mrs. Clinten Charley and children spent the Fourth of July at the Lake of the Woods Miss Catheleen Harsh and Miss Carolee Kucst attended the Presbyterian Junior High church camp at the Lake of the Woods. They gave their reports last Sunday at'the First Presby terian church in Central Point. The congregation of the Com munity Bible church held the annual church picnic in Haw thorne park July 4. She has been visiting for a week at the homes of her- grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thompson and Mr. and Mrs Arnold Bohnert. Her parents have arrived now and will be visiting both places before va cationing along the coast. John Gray Thompson ts the Umatilla county agent. Mr. and Mrs. Terrill Page and son, Terry, of Crowley, La., are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pfaff. A family reunion picnic was held in Ashland park Friday eve ning. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Pinkham :nd children are visiting here from Guam where Pinkham is a teacher. He is the son of Mrs. Alice Pinkham of Central Point. Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pinkham of Medford gave a dinner for five of the Pinkham brothers and their families. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Berkley Pinkham and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Pinkham and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arden Pinkham and family of Central Point, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Pinkham and the Lee Pinkhams. E. R. Yocum, leader of civil defense for Central Point, re ports that he is well pleased with the cooperation of the pub lic. He is supported by Mayor Donald E. Faber. Two civil de fense monitoring teams are trained and equipped with civil defense radios and monitoring instruments. Meetings are held each Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. All interested people are invited to attend the meetings in the city fire hall. Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Woods and sons, Richey and Robby, of Portland, were ! dinner guests at the home of the Richad Wyatt family. Woods and Wyatt attended radio school in Portland. Woods was formerly chief engineer at radio station KYJC. Medford. At Drug, Grocery Stores and Pet Shops Arizona Expedition To Investigate Culture Chicago OH The Chicago Natural History museum will send an expedition to Arizona to investigate sites of prehistoric American culture hitherto un touched by archaeologists. Dr. Paul S. Martin, chief cur ator of anthropology, will lead the expedition, largest to be un dertaken by the museum in 1957. Digging will be conducted in the east-central part of Arizona and will concentrate upon two major sites of contrasting types, the museum said.
