Ohio Stale Revises Scholastic Standard

State University trustees have
adopted a revised set of rules
that wil require a higher schol
astic average for graduation and
better work from students from
the first quarter on, starting next
fall.
Tlie new rules require a stu
dent to have a point-hour 'ratio
of at least 2.0 or a C average,
compared to the current 1.8.
A major change is the require
ment that freshmen make at least
.75 in their first or second quar
ter or face possible dismissal.
Current rules permit a student
to continue in school until the
end of the third quarter when
he must have .a 1.5 average or
face dismissal.
The trustees said , the change
will continue under the old
rules.
The revision of the academic
standards followed a studv.

are leaving their trailer house
in Crescent City, and motoring
to different points along the

Mrs. A. B. Mead spent the
evening of July 4 visiting at the
home of Mrs. Cora Ball and her
son, Willard Ball.
Mr. and Mrs. Royal Green
man spent Saturday in Grants
Pass on business. On the way
home, they stopped in Gold Hill
and visited the Bob Morris fam
ily. The -Morris family formerly
lived in Central Point.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Britton and
daughter. Karon, spent the
Fourth of July week camping
along the Oregon coast.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Winkle
who lived near Tolo have pur
chased the Eli Davis place north
of Central Point. They moved
recently.
Mr. and Ms. Louie Cropp 'of
Central Point have moved to the
Winkle place near Tolo.
Mr. and Mrs. Ell Davis are
living in the Louie Cropp's
house while they are building
their new home.
Visiting at the C. B. Cordy
home is Vernon Page from the
Panama Canal Zone. He has
been attending the University
of Florida, and is in this area
for the summer with the forest
service.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Leon
ard and children of Snowy
Douglas Harsh, who was in
jured fighting the grass fire in
the Camp White area Saturday,
is reported quite well. He was
injured when a part of the
equipment slipped while the
firemen were filling the tanks.
Melvin Harsh, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Merril Harsh, is driving a
logging truck for the summer.
He will return in the fall to
Linfield college, where he is a
student.
Mrs. E. C. Faber has as a guest
in her home her grandson, Don
Mitchell, of Concord, Calif.
While Don is visiting his grand
mother, his parents, the J. C.
Mitchells are vacationing at
Shasta lake. Mrs. - Mitchell is

defense for Central Point, re
ports that he is well pleased
with the cooperation of the pub
lic. He is supported by Mayor
Donald E. Faber. Two civil de
fense monitoring teams are
trained and equipped with civil
defense radios and monitoring
instruments. Meetings are held
each Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.

Arizona Expedition To
Investigate Culture

Natural History museum will
send an expedition to Arizona
to investigate sites of prehistoric
American culture hitherto un
touched by archaeologists.
Dr. Paul S. Martin, chief cur
ator of anthropology, will lead
the expedition, largest to be un
dertaken by the museum in
1957.
Digging will be conducted in
the east-central part of Arizona
and will concentrate upon two
major sites of contrasting types,
