Mrs. Duan Ranlcia Sherwood (Brant photo) Rice-Shcri'jood Ceremony Read in Seattle Church The University Presbyterian church in Seattle was the setting Saturday, June 22, for the wed ding of Miss Mary Edith Rice and Duane Rankin Sherwood. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Rice of Bellevue, Wash. The bridegroom :s a son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Sherwood. 1020 Jasper ave nue, Medford. Dr. L. David Cowie officiated at the eight o'clock evening candlelight ceremony. Pink car nations, white gladiolus and stock, and pink candles deco ded tha church for the wed ding. The bride wore a floor length gown of ivory nylon tulle over taffeta fashioned with Italian guipure outlining the portrait neckline and the waist. Her double tulle veil was held by a seed pearl crown and she car ried a lace handkerchief loaned by her mother. The veil had formerly been worn by Mrs. Richard Gray. She carried a colonial bouquet of glamelias, lilies-of-the-valley, white roses, and stephanotis. Mrs. John Fiedler was honor attendant for her sister. Other attendants were Mrs. Richard Gray and Miss Sue Baker. They wore identical frocks in pale blue dacron trimmed with lace and carried colonial bouquets of pink and white roses and car nations with matching head pieces. Little Mary Susan Fiedler, niece and god-child of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a pink nylon dotted Swiss frock and carried pink rosebuds. Candle lighters were Miss Marilyn Meyers and Mrs Lloyd Larson. Terry Sherwood served as best man for his hrother. John Fied ler. Robert Hays. Jack Hem ingway, and Philip Sweet seated the guests. Following the wedding a re ception was held' in the church reception room. Assisting were Mrs. W. W. Scott, aunt of the bride. Mrs. M. A. Whitman, Mrs. R. G. Gardner, Mrs. R. E. Bol linger, Mrs. S. D. Bradner. Mrs. L. A. Sanderman. Mrs. V. M Meyers. Mrs. Philip Largent. Miss Mary Bollinger, Miss Marcia Emerson. Miss Helen McKown. Miss Pat Fortin, Miss Soma Kjaer, and Miss Sandra Lord. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Rice wore a nut brown silk sheath dress with rose acces sories. Mrs. Sherwood chose a beige lace dress with pink ac cessories. The couple will make their home at 11141 Northeast Klick itat. Portland, following a wed ding trip to the coast. For her traveling attire the bride chose a blue and white checked suit with whit? accessories. The bride is a graduate of Whitworth college. Spokane, and is now teaching in the Pres cott schools .near Portland. While in college she was presi dent of her dormitory and a member of Who's Who in Ameri can Colleges and Universities. The bridegroom is a pharmacy graduate of Idaho State college. He was treasurer of Rho Chi. pharmacy honorary fraternity. associate editor of the pharmacy magazine. Refill, for two years, and was elected man of the year of his dormitory. Prior to the wedding the couple were honored at several parties. The bride was given sur prise showers by the teachers at her school in Prescott, by her roommates, the girls in the young adult group at the church, and a neighborhood shower given by Mrs. Lloyd Smiley. A rehearsal breakfast was given by Mr. and Mrs. Rice at the Edmond Meany hotel on the morning of the wedding, and a luncheon for the wedding party was given by Mrs. Roy Bolling er in her Bellevue home that afternoon. College Students In Hawaii for Protestant Churches Eagle Point Miss Carla Rags dale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ragsdale, Eagle Point, is one of a group of 22 students at Westmont college, Santa Bar bara, Calif., who are spending the summer working with Prot estant churches in the Hawaiian islands. The independent group, Lei O'Limas, was formed on the campus by the students to help churches in small island settle ments after several speakers at the college told of the need for workers. The students financed their trip through fund-raising activities during the past school year. The group flew from Santa Barbara, Calif., arriving in Honolulu June 10. They spent a week there for indoctrination and sightseeing before traveling on to Maui, where they will work for eight weeks. The schedule includes daily Bible classes for the native chil dren and weekly meetings with the young adults in the islands Chaperones for the group are Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Wilson of Arcadia. Calif. The group will return to the Mainland in August, part returning by boat Miss Ragsdale will be a jur. ior at the college this fall. She is majoring in elementary education. Local Woman At Wedding !Of Grandson Mrs. Eugene G. Goff, 30 Cot tage avenue, Medford. and her grandson, Ronald Bradford, also of Medford, returned Tuesdav from San Francisco where thev attended the wedding of Miss Kay Pomposo and Terry Goff, both of San Francisco. The bride groom is a grandson of Mrs. Goff. The wedding was held Sun day, June 23, at two o'clock in the afternoon at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic church in San Francisco. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pomposo and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Goff. For the wedding the bride wore a white lace and nylon tulle gown with fingertip length veil and carried a bouquet of white and purple orchids. The bride's attendants wore frocks of lavender and yellow. For the wedding Mrs. Goff wore a light blue suit with white accessories and lavender orchid corsage. The bride's mother chose a pink lace sheath while the mother of the bridegroom wore a beige and orange print dress with matching duster and beige hat. They wore orchid cor sages. Following the wedding a re ception was held. The newly-wed couple left for a wedding trip to Carniel and Disneyland and will make their home in San Francisco where the bridegroom is employed at Soule Steel company. Pepper-Hayes Rites Read In Nevada Central Point Miss Jackie Pepper of Central Point became the bride of Harry Hayes, Glen dale, Ore., in a ceremony held Friday, June 21, at Gardenside, Nevada. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Ivan Penland of Central Point, and Larry Pepper of Cen tral Point. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hayes, Shedd. For her wedding Miss Pepper wore a pale blue nylon dress fashioned with fitted bodice and full skirt. Her accessories were white. Following the wedding the newlywed couple spent their honeymoon at Yosemite Nation al park and visited other points in California and Nevada. They are making their home in Glen dale. Prior to the wedding a mis cellaneous shower was given the bride-elect by her sister, Mrs. Howard Hooker of Medford. Teeter, 1202 East Main street, Medford. announce the engagement of their daughter, Sylvia, to Riley Winchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Winchell, 471 Ross lane, Medford. Miss Teeter, a Medford High school graduate, attended Lin field college, and is now com pleting a stenographic course at Robertson School of Business. Mr. Winchell was graduated from Medford High school and Southern Oregon college with a degree in secondary education. He is scheduled to teach this fall in Sutherlin High school, Suth erlin, Ore. No wedding date has been set. Visitors Leave Colonel and Mrs. Donald M. Zeis of Wichita Falls, Texas, left for home Wednesday after a week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carr, 16 Florence avenue. The Zeis' daughter, Priscilla, who was graduated from the University of Colorado this spring, is staying on as a sum mer visitor with the Carrs. She will serve as a counselor at Low Echo Girl Scout camp. In the fall she will join the teaching staff at Cherry Creek High school in Denver, Colo., as a ge ography teacher. Bosworth Family In Medford For Child Christening Mr. and Mrs. William Hughes, son-in-law and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Bosworth, 425 East Main street, were in Med ford last week end for the chris tening of their daughter, Peggy Marie. The Rev. John Bright chris tened the child at St. Mark's Episcopal church June 22. The Bosworth's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harl&n Bosworth, Berkeley, Calif., were godparents, with Miss Josephine Koppes. The younger Bosworth's were visitors at the home of his parents here for a week, and left Wednesday. He is a second year seminary student at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific at Berkeley. Also attending the christen ing were Harlan Bosworth Sr., and Henry Bosworth from Buf falo, N.Y. The two are visiting in Medford for about two months, and will leave sometime next month. Last Sunday, Mrs. Bosworth of Medford, flew to Berkeley where she attended the wed ding of Craig Christianson, step son of her sister, Mrs. Yngve Christianson. Mr. and Mrs. Chris tianson are on their wedding trip in Canada, and will make their home in Berkeley. Visits Here Mrs. George Van Fleet, Au stin. Texas, arrived in Medford June 22 to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Brandon, 211 North Ivy st. She is also visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. C. E. Tingleaf, 848 West Four teenth street. Houseguests Here For Months Visit Mrs. John M. Parsons and four children, of Falls Church. Va., are visiting at the home of her father, Seth M. Bullis. and aunt. Miss Helen Bullis, 15 Florence avenue. Also visiting in the Bullis home is Miss Judy Bullis. Port land, a grandchild of Mr. Bullis. Returns Mrs. Verlenia Pitts. 532 South ! Boulet, of Graham, Texas, were visitors in Medford this month at the home of Dr. and Mrs. William W. P. Holt, 11 Cornins court. Mrs. Boulet is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Holt. Mr. Boulet is an Episcopal clergyman in Graham. The visitors were in Visitors Mrs. Richard Wright and daughters, Teri and Shannon, re turned to their home in Weiser, Idaho. Friday after a w-eek i visit with Mrs. Wright's mother, Mrs. Inez Hnyse. 407 West Jack son street. The visitors also saw other friends and relatives while in Medford. P. Tobin, 1435 Euclid avenue, in honor of Miss Harriett Dowson. Miss Dowson will be married to day in the First Presbyterian church to Lt. Fred Cutter van Bebber, of Lawrence, Kan. Chriss Phoenix Mr. and Mrs. Ben nie L. Bennett, Sutherlin, Ore., announce the engagement of their daughter, Barbara Jean, to Dennis L. Chriss, son ef Mr. and Mrs. Carl Chriss, Phoenix. Miss Bennett is a graduate of Sutherlin High school and plans to attend the Robertson School of Business in Roseburg. Mr. Chriss will be a sophomore this fall at Southern Oregon college. No wedding date has been set. University Girl . Selected One Of Best Dressed Miss Caroline Rice, grand daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Dahl, 425 South Groveland ave nue, Medford, a student at the University of Oregon, was re cently chosen as one of the ten best dressed university girls in the United States. Miss Rice was first chosen by the student body at the Oregon school and was then selected by Glamour magazine in April. Earlier this month she was giv en a five day all-expense paid trip to New York City. While there she was hosted by ths magazine and modeled dresses for Glamour magazine adver tisers.
