Seems everyone here is catch ing lis.i and v.i. lie most of the fish run in the 8-lJ-inch class there have h-en some excellent catches of 15-13 inoers. Most of the larger fish are being taken on flashers wln trailing worms. The fisiiing at Last lake which is only fie miles from here is tavr to ood wnii larger Iish be nut taken on the average. Carnp ut facilities are excellent at both lakes and with the excep tion of a couple of trailerites w ho ran t stand the quiet so keep it jvnsy with their portable gen erators, tilings are nearly ideal. These two lakes are among the frtore famous of Oregon s lish injjjpits, well stocked and cared for. They are nestled among the trees w itn a backdrop of volcanic peaks. The waters are ver cold and extremely clear. A paved road leads from the Klamath Falls-Bend high way right to each lake. Boats, motais, meals (at the lodgesi, cabins ajid tackle are available. BETTER KNOWN SPOTS It is may plan on this trip to give the people in southern Ore gon an accurate account of some of the better known spots in the Deschutes area so they can have this information in case they want to drilt away from the old homestead fo"r a spell. While here I am u telephone contact with the verious spots at home and will report on them also. Klamath lake Bob Sloan of Harriman s Resort says that fish ing there has picked up with plenty of fish in the three and four pound class being taken. Fishing at the tail-end of last week was slow but by Sunday it was in stride again. Hank Dnrig.of Medford boat ed one of 4' j poiuids. Don Quick andX'ane Dickenson of Klamath Tails picked up a 5' i and a 4 pound in the big fish class. Dick Harrison of Phoenix. Ore., hit the big time with a whopper of 8D4 pounds and Liilian Baker of Fall brook, C alif., took ladies honors with a 514- pounder. Diamond lak The Diamond Lake Lodge phoned that the fish ing was terrific now with plenty of fish in the 3-pound class be ing taken and some running as high as 4' 2. Flashers fished deep with flatfish in green, orajige and white are producting the big ones. Fly fishing in the early I morning and evening is good. ; Beit f.shing is reported in the middle of the lake. Fish lake Lloyd Morris of the Fi-h Lake lodge sas that begin ning with Saturday afternoon the fisiiuig really took hold and trout to 18' 2 inches were taken, they are now hitting flatfish on '.range. green. eilovv. Trolling fender and worms is producing and still fishing with single eggs is very fcood. 4-Mil lake The only reports from this lake have been scarce recenUv but several fishermen said thai it wa on tnp slow side et. This may have picked up in the l;.-t few dsjs. Willow Creek reservoir The fishing has been very good here recently with still fishing, troll ing and fly fishing producting ex : cellent limits. This lake w hich has been regarded as only an ; "opener" is really coming into i its own as is proved by this ! year s fishing. It caji be regarded now as one of our major fishing spots here in this section of the state. Boats, motors and supplies including tackle can be obtained at all these spots now. There are boat landing spots, j Each of the lakes has a free ' launching site and a site main tained by the lodge for a minimal charge of 35c. AH coast fishing with the ex- ception of bottom fishing and j perch fisiiing in the mouth of ! the Chetco is at a standstill now and will be for a week or two. Postal Worker Pay i Increase Approved Washington U" The House I Post Office Committee ignored the objections of President Eis enhower today and voted to i raise the pay of 518.000 postal workers by S320 million a year. The vote, taken behind closed doors, was reported by commit tee members later to have been 20 to 3. The pay raise bill, if finally enacted, would provide increases ranging up t- S546 a year. Only a fe days ago. Eisen hower opposed a pay hike for increases by other government workers and upset efforts to hold down government spending. But the committee agreed to day to meet next Tuesday to lonsider raises for other federal workers. Eisenhower said raises for all classified workers would be in j flationary. David O'Hara To Be Honored at Party Salem IP David O'Harra, who retires July 1 as state elec tions chief, will be honored Fri day at an open house in the sec retary of state's office. O'Hara. who has been with Oregon state government for 42 years, said he had no plans for the future. He plans to remain at home for the next several weeks until his wife recovers from a recent heart attack. O'Hara's old desk, the only re maining rolltop desk in the cap itol building, will be presented to him. O'Hara's job will be assumed by Freeman Holmer. executive secretary of the interior commit tee which made major revisions in the election code. British Report Links Cancer To sjSfl i Cigarette Smoking London IP A British today that a major part of the very great increase in deaths" from lung cancer in males during the past 25 years was caused by smoking, particularly heavy cig arette smoking. John Vaughn-Morgan. Parlia mentary secretary to the Minis try of Health, told the House of Commons in a long awaited re port: "In their annual report and more particularly in their special review of the subject, the Medi cal Research Council advised the government that the most reason able interpretation of the very great increase in deaths from lung cancer in males during the past 25 years was that a major part of its was caused by smok ing tobacco, particularly heavy Three Boys Sought in Shooting of Woman Albany. Mrs. Marie Salsma. 49. Albany, reported she was shot in the back Wednesday while fishing in the Willamette river two miles north of the Albany bridge. She was taken to Albany General Hospital where she is in an oxy oxygen tent. Mrs. Salsma. who could be questioned only briefly, said the boys were on the oppo site bank of the river. She said she shouted at them that they had shot her but that they ignor ed her. She was forced to crawl up the bank and then stagger to a nearby farm where Russell Hibma, Springfield, took her to the hospital. COPS AND ROBBERS Portsmouth, Ohio tP Patrol man Homer Webb reported someone stole an envelope of money from the compartment on his motorcycle while he was away tagging cars for overtime parking. The money consisted of contributions to the police man's ball fund. Warning Issued of Blasting Cap Danger Police Chief Charles Champlin issued a warning to children to day about the dangers involved in blasting caps. The caps are short, shiny, pen cil sized cylinders, l'.i to five inches long. Made of aluminum or copper, they contain a sensi tive explosive. The caps may or may not have a fuse attached, and may have covered wires leading from one end. "A child picking up a blast ing cap is in deadly danger," the chief said. Anyone finding a cap has been asked to report it to the city police or other law enforcing agency immediately. The police will dispose of the cap safely, Champlin said. Tfie Dalles Pageant To Observe Centennial The Dalles IP A historical pageant in observance of The Dalles' 100 years ss a munici pality will be held here this week end. Centennial events have been held weekly but will be climax ed by the pageant which will feature dancing girls as well as historical figures, the sponsors said. Sixth Nuclear Blast Delayed in Nevada Las Vegas. New 'in The Atomic Energy Commission Wednesday night was forced to postpone for 24, hours the sixth nuclear blast of the 1957oserics because of "technical reasons." The shot was rescheduled for 4:45 a.m. Friday. The sixth de tonation was scheduled to equal 10.000 tons of TNT 10 kilotons and be touched off stop a 500 foot steel tower. There are about 1,900.000 4 H club members in the United States. Occupants of Trainer lane Escape Crash Lind. Wash. M Both oc cupants of a T-22 jet trainer es caped serious injury Wednesday night when they crash-landed in a plowed field near here. The fliers. 1st Lt. Alma W. Skousen and 1st Lt. Wayne A. Sweetnam. both of the 83nd Fighter Intcrcepteor Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, Calif, were en route to Larson Air Force Base. An Air Force spokesman said both men attempted to bail out at 5.000 feet when their jet flam ed out. but were unable to re lease a stuck canopy. They were both taken to Larson Air Force Base.
