CHAPMAN Hornbrook Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith returned Saturday eve ning from San Francisco where they had been since February while Smith was undergoing sur gical and medical treatment. He was injured in a car accident. Their son and his family, Dr. and Mrs. Edward M. Smith and son Mike of Orland, Calif., ac companied them home, and re turned to Orland on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cummins and daughter, Shirley Moffett, drove, to Dunsmuir on Saturday where they attended the wedding of Mrs. Cummins' niece, Suzanne Spearin, to Y.N.C. Noel Cecil Patton, son of Mrs. Beulah Reed of Castella, Calif. The young people attended high school in Dunsmuir, and will make their home in Oakland, Calif. Suzanne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spearin. Mrs. Margaret Phillips re turned last week end after vis iting her daughter in Palo Alto, Calif., for several weeks. While in Palo Alto, Mrs. Phillips was hospitalized for several days with pneumonia. Mrs. George Sloan and her daughter, Mrs. Frank Burkhart, drove to Eureka, Calif., on Mon day. Mrs. Burkhart will remain there with her husband's parents until he returns from a tour of duty in the Orient with the Marines. He is expected back within the next two weeks. Two of Hornbrook's teachers are leaving this week on vaca tion. Mrs. Loren Cummins plans to leave on Thursday for Seat tle, Wash., to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Howard. Leaving on Firday by train will be Mrs. L. E. Jeter who will visit in Elmhurst, 111., with a friend with whom she went through grammar school, high school and college. On leaving Chicago, she will go to Arcadia. Kans., to visit her parents, and her brothers and sisters who live there. Mrs. Jeter is one of four teen children. Mrs. Albert Wedin of Yreka was a visitor in town on Tues day. She called on Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith and on her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Tyrer. COPCO A week end guest of Mr. and Bob Wilson and family was Mrs. Mrs. Wilson's mother, Hammon, Myrtle Creek. Mrs. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gaide and family were visitors on Memor ial day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Morrie Chappel. Mr. and Mrs. William Paulsen of San Leandro, Calif., were guests last week end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ar- oon Burns. Mrs. Paulsen was JoAnn Burns before her mar riage April 20. Mr. and Mrs. Al Gregory be came the parents of their third child and second daughter on June 3. Gregory has been prin cipal of the local grammar school for the past two years. They plan to leave about Aug. 1 for their former home in Bos ton, Mass. Little Tommy Collister, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Collister, was taken hurriedly to a Medford hospital Monday night when he suffered a severe attack of hay fever and asthma. The Misses Barbara Burns, Sharon Walsh and Mary Lee Rutledge, and Bob Paine attend ed a picnic of the Trampoline club of Yreka High at Lithia park in Ashland Monday eve ning, June 3. Later the young people bowled at the Ashland alley and went swimming at Twin Plunges. Barbara and Bob are members of , the club, and Sharee and Mary Lee were their guests. On Tuesday evening, June 4, Bob and Sharon, with the other members of the jour- ' nalism class, attended a banquet at the Piemont hotel in Mt. ! Shasta City. Miss Mary Lee Rutledge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Rutledge, and Granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Kurt, and a graduat ing senior at Yreka High, has been awarded the Yreka Lions' ! club scholarship of $150. One ; student from the senior class is ' selected each year on the basis of scholarship and leadership to receive the award. Mary Lee hopes to attend the University of California at Berkeley, and tc I become a teacher, thus following ; in the footsteps of her mother j and grandmother.
