Getting diplomas were Kay Brown, Joyce Dillard, Pat Conley, Bill Irwin, Gene Hen shaw, Bruce Pingle. Gerald Mattern, Ronlie Remson, Bill Dunlap, Don Ellis and Monte Facey. Senior class advisor was Art Backlund. Jlass colors were lavender and white, the class motto, "Suc cess through knowledge" and class flower was the orchid. Bruce Hitt, of the Jackson county education department, Medford, gave the commence ment address, and the Rev. John Fruiten, of the Assembly of God church gave the Invocation and Benediction. Valedictorian for the class was Gene Henshaw. Those receiving awards were Gene Henshaw, citizenship; Pat Conley, vocational; Jerry Dillen, athletic; Gene Henshaw, dra matic; Kay Brown, scholarship to Medford Beauty school; Gene Henshaw. and Kay Erown re ceived certificates from the Dun ford "I Dare You" honor roll. Dunford is a non-profit nation wide organization for further advancement of education. Stu dents throughout the nation showing outstanding scholastic and leadership abilities receive these certificates. Boys who constructed furni ture in shop class had their work on display at the Com mencement exercises held in the gym. High school students and fac ulty held their picnic the last day of school, May 24, at the Willow creek dam. The day was spent swimming and picnicking. Mr. and Mrs. Manford Rich man and children, Judy, Debra, Kathy, Mary, Shera and David, of Redding, were recent guests at the Lee Brown residence re cently. Mrs. Richman is a daugh ter of the Browns. Mary and Shera remained for a short visit with their grandparents. teopathic hospital two weeks ago with near-pneumonia and will remain there for an indefinite time. Mrs. Johnson and boys are visiting with friends, the How ard Johnsons, of Central Point, during Keiths stay in the hospital. Mrs. Glenn Cathey returned to her home last week from the Sacred Heart hospital. Mrs. Cathey entered the hospital with near-pneumonia and was re leased two weeks later, only to return again with a kidney in fection. Mrs. Cathey is convalesc ing once again and is reported to be much improved. Bruce Pingle spent one week in the Sacred Heart hospital with the flu. He is now at his home, convalescing. Miss Julie Pingle will return to her home Sunday, June 2, from Southern Oregon college. Miss Pingle will enter the Uni versity of Oregon in the fall, as a senior, to further her busi ness education. Julie is a daugh ter of the Bruce Pingles. Fishing at Diamond lake of ficially opened one week ago and many went from here to try their luck. Among those that motored up Friday evening, May 24, were Mr. and Mrs. Jess Rodgers, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rodgers and children, of Butte Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Leth Mead ows, of Medford, and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Meadows and son, of Prineville. Arriving Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Al Hartie rcde of Butte Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hartlerode and daugh ter of Medford. Fishing was re porte as "fair" by this group of fishermen. Others arriving at Diamond lake Friday evening, May 24, and leaving Saturday, were Mr. anu Mrs. Lee Jolliffe and Don Jolliffe. They reported that fish ing was "poor." Keith Johnson entered the Os- Mr. and Mrs. W. D. (Shorty) Jolliffe were recent visitors in Butte Falls. Mrs. Morley Pingle and son, Alan, left for Los Angeles Satur day May 25, for a short trip. The Morleys plan to return to their home, the Mil Mar Ranch, above Butte Falls, soon. Due to an oversight, in a re cent item naming clubs hosting the Lions convention to be held in Medford, June 20, 21 and 22 the Butte Falls Lions club and Auxiliary were not included. The Butte Falls Lions are one of the host clubs scheduled to help with the banquet, and mem bers of the Auxiliary are mak ing 300 program covers for one of the ladies' breakfasts. No two bushels of apples weigh the same, and no two bushels of wheat do either. This variation has brought on the common practice of selling by the bushel- pound method, and causes con siderable mathematics. For these reasons, the U. S. Department of Agriculture, state agencies, and leaders at the grass roots level are attempting to do away with the "bushel" as a term of measurement and use "weight'' instead. The Kansas State Board of Ag riculture recently announced that the change-over probably will mean that sometime in the near future, the state's wheat crop likely will be measured in hundred-weights instead of bushels. Farmers presently take their wheat to market, weigh it, and divide the weight by 60, the number of pounds set for a standard bushel of wheat to wt'gh. The wheat then issold by the bushel. But leaders now say, why not sell the wheat, and other prod ucts, by weight, rather than through the process of dividing the total weight, then muttiply ing this by the price per bushel. Roy Freeland, secretary of the Kansas board, admitted there would be difficulties to the changeover but said they would be only temporary. The hardest thing, tree land visualized it, would be getting farmers to speak of yields in terms of "hundred weight per acre" instead of the common "bushel per Sere." ,nd of sentimental value only fcould be the passage of a longstanding tradition, one that served ell through centuries befor cles came along to make measure ment by weight more pntcticl. Seven Suffer Minor Injuries in Accident Seven people suffered only bruises Saturday when they were thrown into Bear creek i after the flat bed truck in which ! they were riding hit the concrete I side of a bridge on Highway 99 near Jackson Hot Springs. Victims of the accident, which occurred at 6:30 p.m., were iden tified as James Mack Girk John son, 60, route 3, box 205, Med ford, driver of the truck: Char lotte Lavonna Wood, 28, James Albert Wood, 7, and John Ralph Wood, all of route 1, box 122-A, Ashland; Dorcas Annette John son, 15, David Johnson, 12, and Jonathan Lee Johnson, 10, all of route 3, box 205, Medford.
