Med ford city schools became the first school system in the state to have all its employees take the safety pledge. Principals of each Medford school received a similar award at a meeting in the city school office yesterday morning. By maintaining a perfect safety record over a period of time, the school system could now achieve the "award of merit," the highest award made by the State Industrial Accident commission, according to Olsen. Several County Students To Receive SOC Degrees ay Scoufs Troop 3 An investiture service and court of honor featured the meet ing of Troop 3 at Roosevelt school Monday night. Those inducted into the troop were Keith Graves, Paul Good win, Jim Casterline, Monte Ken nedy, Dick Knight, Larry Ses sions, Tom Kerr. Cecil Pence, James Rowan, Gibb Mitchell, Jyral Dyrud, Chris Brewer, An gus Duncan, Jimmy Bell and Steve Lewis. Second Class rank winners, all from Troop 4, were Stephen Eichelberger, Larry Tuttle and Rickey Main. . Other award winners all were from Troop 3. First class rank was presented to David Irving. California Town Gets Radioactivity Scare Las Vegas HP Remnants of the atomic cloud from Tuesday's nuclear test at Yucca Flat veered unexpectedly over the Sacra mento and San Francisco areas Wednesday, resulting in a radio activity scare in the small town of Quincy. A spokesman for the Atomic Energy Commission said there was "no cause whatever" for alarm by residents of the areas over which the cloud portions would pass. HP) A po tential tycoon was graduated from Klamath Falls high school Tuesday night. After the 305 graduates had leceired their diplomas, school officials began handing out refunds of the $5 library fee they had paid four years earlier. The refunds were ac cepted gracefully by 304 stu dents.' The 305th balked a little. "This isn't quite enough," be told startled officials. "It's the same $5 you paid four years ago," they replied. The fast-figuring student countered, "I know. You're been using my money for four years. I have 42 cents interest coming." Landmine Explosion Kills Man in Israel By UNITED PRESS An Israeli tractor driver was killed Wednesday and another farmer wounded seriously in the e'xplosion of a land mine laid during the night by infiltrators from the Gaza Strip, an Israeli military spokesman announced in Jerusalem. The explosion occurred on the outskirts of the village of Kissu fim, near the Gaza border, while the tractor was taking dayshift workers to 4he fields. The trac tor passed safely over the same dirt road Tuesday night, and po lice said infiltrators had entared the area sfnee then. Israel's other Arab borders were quiet, but tension remained with Saudi Arabia over Israel's use of the Gulf of Aqaba and with Syria over construction of a "military" bridge in the Hu lehL ake district near the Syrian border.
