Area Students Are Named to PKP Group Corvallis Jerry Raymond Pe terson of Medford and Benson Luke Foley of Central Point have been elected to membership in the Oregon State college chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, national honor society. To qualify for membership, students must rank in the upper 10 per cent of their class scho lastically. Membership includes faculty, graduates, and under graduates of all departments of American" universities and col leges. Peterson, a junior majoring in chemical engineering, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry O. Pe terson, 1440 Whitman ave., Med ford. Foley, a junior also in chemical engineering, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Foley, rt. 1, Central Point Both students are 1954 grad uates of Medford High school. Legislature Briefs Salrii IP The House passed s three-bill package permitting the Unemployment Compensa tion Commission to acquire land and build office buildings with unemployment trust funds. Rep Robert Duncan, Medford Demociat, said that only money actually in the fund up to $1 million . could be used. He said the buildings could be built in the Capitol Mall area or in other areas of the state where field offices were needed. The bills now go to the Sen ate. Also passing were House bills appropriating money for a study of the Rogue River Basin by the State Water Resourcses Board and other agencies and a compre hensive study of the Alsea basin. Salem (IPI Pay hikes of up to $3,-00 for superintendents of state institutions and heads of various boards and commissions were approved by the House 36 22 and sent to the Senate. The raisers will cost some $120,000 Also, as part of a program of general pay raises for state em ployees, the House approved hik ing salaries for district attorneys. Salem OF) A budget of $571, 000 for the State Board of Pa role and Probation was approved by the House and sent to the Senate. If the bill creating i iull-time parole board passed the Senate, the money can be trans ferred The bill already has pass ed the House. Salem (If) The Senate voted pay boosts for top elective offi cials, jvith the governor getting top state pay, $17,500 plus $400 3 month for expenses. Salem (IP) The Senate pass ed a measure to set up an Ore gon centennial commission.
