TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE v' ft i r y if" 7: . ; t .' - - r - Episcopal Ceremony Weds Pair An event of Saturday, May 11 jn Oswego, Ore., was the wed ding of Miss Alyce Joy Ather- ton and Fred Albert Gustafson held in Christ Episcppal church at three o clock in the afternoon, The Rev. John R. Vance offici ated at the ceremony. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Fred Dutton of Jacksonville and Roy Nelson Atherton of Honolulu, Hawaii. The bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs Charles Gustav Gustafson of Astoria. For her wedding the bride wore a floor length gown of Chantilly lace over taffeta styled with a sweetheart neckline and long sleeves. The lower part of the sleeves and bodice were of taffeta falling in an apron effect over the tiered lace skirt which formed a sweep train. Her fin gertip length illusion veil was held by a lace head piece trim med with pearls and sequins. She carried a cascade bouquet of white orchids and white car nations designed In streamers of Hawaiian leis flown from Hono lulu. She was given in marriage by Mr. Atherton who came from Hawaii for the ceremony. Miss. Nancy Reine of Eugene, sorority sister of the bride, was maid of -honor." She wore a street length sheath dress of white lace fashioned with1 sweetheart neck line, cap sleeves, and a white taf feta cumberbund which fell in streamers to the hem of the dress. Her small white taffeta cap held a tiny veil and she carried a spray of tropical flow ers. - Bridesmaids were Miss Gret chen Klomhaus of Rogue River and Miss Gwen Ellis of Port land, also sorority sisters of the bride. They both wore dresses identical to Miss Reined. Charles Milton Gustafson, brother of the bridegroom, serv ed as best man. Glen Engbret son, Duane Arther Gustafson, brother of the bridegroom, Don ald Jarvis, and Thomas Sandoz, all of Astoria, seated the guests. Following the ceremony a re ception was held in the garden at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald D. Ellis in Portland. The newlyweds are spending their wedding trip in Victoria, British Columbia. Upon their return the bridegroom will re port for active, duty with the United States Air Force as a sec ond lieutenant at Lackland Field, San Antonio, Texas. The bride, who is a student at the University of Oregon Medical School, School of Nursing, will continue her studies and join the bridegroom in Texas in August. She is scheduled to receive her degree in nursing in June 1958. The bride is a graduate of Punahou School, Honolulu, and attended the University of Ore gon where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta, social soro rity. The bridegroom Was grad uated from' Astoria High school and the University of Oregon. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta, social fraternity. Janice Couch, Maurice Cobbs Wed in Provolt Miss Janice Eileen Couch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Couch, route 1, Jacksonville, be came the bride of Maurice Du ane Cobbs. son of Mr. and Mrs. V.' W. Cobbs of Provolt in a ceremony held Friday, April 26, at 7:30 o'clock in the evening in Provolt. The Rev. Lester Stevens of the Provolt Community church officiated at the single ring cere mony attended by 22 relatives and friends of the couple. For her wedding the bride wore a lavender suit with white accessories. Her corsage was of yellow tulips and red primroses made by Mrs. Glenn France from flowers in her garden. Following the ceremony a re ception was held in the church parsonage. The bride is a student at Jack sonville High school. The bride1 groom attended Grants Pass High school and employed by the Sakraida ranch. Mrs. Fred Albert Gustafson Activity Night Set At Country Club Plans have been completed for the second annual Ladies Activity Night at Rogue Valley Country club: The event will be given by the Women's Golf as sociation Thursday, May 16. The cocktail hour will be from 6:30 to 7:30 o'clock with a buffet dinner following. Entertainment will be fur nished by the Kiwanis Dixieland Jazz Band. In the band are I. A. Mirick, Jack Walker, Dr. Milo Kubalek, Dr. Edward Sickels, Robert Church and Ray John son. Reservations for the evening should be made no later than Tuesday, May 14. Tuneful Music On Program for Coming Concert Light, tuneful music will make up the program for the Philharmonic Society of South ern Oregon "pops" concert on Sunday, May 26, at the Medford High school auditorium accord ing to Richard D. Werner, di rector. The concert will be held at 3 p.m. A note of gaiety will be set overture to Offenbachs 'Or pheus in the Underworld." The L'Arlesienne Suite" by Bizet will follow, and the first sec tion of the program-will close with the "Emperor Waltz" by Johann Strauss. Following the first intermis sion will be a clarinet solo by Huot Fisher, principal clarinet ist of the orchestra, entitled "Adagio and Tarantella" by Ca valini, arranged by George Wain, Mr. Fisher's teacher. Prior to the second intermis sion the five guessing pieces en titled "Popsorama" for students will be played. The third section of the pro gram the orchestra will play "On the -Trail" from the 'Grand Canyon Suite" by Ferde Grofe and the "Coronation March" from the opera "Le Prophet" by Meyerbeer. ' " Refreshments will be served during the intermissions by the Philharmonic guild. Spring Recital Held on Monday Mrs. D. F. Huson presented her piano pupils Monday eve ning in an annual spring recital at First Presbyterian church. More than one hundred parents and 'friends of the pupils at tended. Iris, spirea and white tapers decorated the tables where the refreshments were served fol lowing the program.. Assisting Mrs. Huson were Mrs. Lawrence Buonocore, Mrs. Frances Willett, Mrs. Nell Laing, Mrs. James Hopkins, Mrs. LeRoy Jensen, Mrs. Barbara Doolen, Mrs. Ken neth Brown, and Mrs. Charles Meyers. Students who played in the recital included Carol Garhart, Todd Dierdorff, Claud Hoover, Margaret Doolen, Louise Hoov er, Mike Hoover, Madelyn Buon ocore, Ann Jensen, Kathy De Witt, Margo Shreeve, John Yoak ley, Martha Gifford, Laurie Beth Buonocore, Nancy Becken, Syl via Morris, Sharon Laing. Julli anne Yoakley, Roberta Willett, Charla Jo Meyer, Darelyn Hu son, Shirley Hopkins, Rosemary j Doolen, and Sue Donna Doolen. - Club Announces Luncheon, Show Trail 'Gay Fashions for Va cationland" by Mann's Depart ment store will be shown at the I fasion show Tuesday, May 21, ! at 1 p.m. in the Segessman Gar- j dens, one quarter mile south of i Trail. The show is sponsored by j Our Lady of Fatima club of the j Catholic church. j Music will be by John Lusk i and Mrs. Wyles Berry will be ' commentator. Models will be members of the club with the St. Mary's Choralettes singing during the intermission. A salad luncheon will be serv-! ed. Proceeds will help pay the ! debt on the hall. May 12, 1937 Shower Honors Bonnie Leeper; June Date Set Talent Miss Bonnie Leeper, Talent, whose wedding to James Richard McAbee will be an event of June 16 at Medford First Methodist church, was hon ored at a bridal shower on Wed nesday, May 1. The event was given at the home of Mrs. Keith Thoreson, Talent, and the hos tesses were Mrs. Leo Jacobs, Mrs. Gary Combs and Mrs. Don ald Mullin. The bride-to-be is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Leeper, and the bridegroom the son of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. McAbee, Tal ent. The bride-elect was given miscellaneous gifts for her new home. Games were played and refreshments were served. Lav ender, yellow, and aqua marine streamers and white wedding bells adorned the ceiling, with the same color scheme used for the gift table and refreshment table. White Marjorie Hattan, Donald Nichols ToWedinFall The engagement of Miss Mar jorie Ann Hattan to Donald Keith Nichols was told Friday evening at a dinner at the home of Miss Hattan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hattan of Mos cow, Idaho. Mr. Nichols is a son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Nichols Jr. of Route 1, Box 387, Ashland. Miss Hattan and Mr. Nichols left Medford last Thursday for Moscow, Idaho, where they are visiting in the Hattan home. They plan to return to, Medford Monday. Miss Hattan , is a Jackson county 4-H club agent. She is a graduate of the University of Idaho where she received her bachelor of science degree and was home demonstration agent at Bonners Ferry, Idaho, for two years prior to her arrival in Medford. She is a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron, national home economics honorary fra ternity. Mr. Nichols received his bachelor of science degree from Oregon State college in animal husbandry and is n cattleman engaged in the raising of regis tered hereford cattl near Ash land. He is a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, social fraternity, and is active in many county wide agricultural organizations. He is currently chairman of the Jackson County Agricultural council. A late fall wedding will be held in the Lutheran church in Genesee Valley, Idano. "My Fair Lady" Theme of Party Wednesday Night The theme of "My Fair Lady" will be carried out in musical notes and sheet music on the walls of the guild hall and par ish house of St. Mark's church for the annual spring card par ty of St. Catherine's guild Wed nesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. Small dolls dressed as danc ers will decorate each table. Miss Hodgkins, who is the employee relation officer at the Naval Supply Depot, Guam, re cently attended the Navy Incen tive Awards conference in Los Angeles.
