Northwest Orient Lines To Add New Flight Portland Northwest Orient Airlines will offer Portland-Chicago passengers a forenoon, sec ond non-stop DC-6B tourist serv ice, in new schedules effective April 28, J. Musical interlude Will Be Pert of Dinner Big Fire Damage In U.S., Canada Said $330,156,000 Boston U.R) Big fires in the United States and Canada in 1956 caused an estimated $330,- 150,000 loss the worst in history. The two countries reported 430 large fires last year with in dividual loss of at least $250, 000. And 86 of them caused $1 million or more damage. The report was released by the National Fire Protection As sociation in its annual study of fires in North America. The NFPA said the previous high fire loss was in 1953 when damage in the United States and Canada was set at $274,374,500. Industrial fire losses topped the unprecedented fire destruc tion. More than 100 large loss in dustrial fires were reported and 14 large loss church fires equal led the total number over the preceding three years. More than 400 persons perish ed during large loss blazes, 333 the result of aircraft fires. The previous year's total from big fires was 296. The largest structural fire in 1956 occurred in Brooklyn when the Luckenbach Steamship Co. pier exploded. Ten persons were killed and damage was estimated at $7,600,000.
