TORNADO HURDLER Wally Larson, above, smooth fast, hurdler and fleet relay anchor man, will be among the Medford high trackmen competing Saturday afternoon in the Grants Pass Rotary club track meet. Medford, Crater in Rotary Track Tussle "We're on our own now." That wag the comment this week of a Medford high track gter as the Tornado thinclads turned their attention from re lay engagements to regular track meet competition. True, but with a bit of quali fication. With the exception of the half-mile relay, it'll be the individual efforts of the cinder men which count for points from here on rather than the combined efforts of three or four men In an event. But the cinder runners and the field men will be striving still for team points and team victory. Medford's Tornado crew goes to Grtnts Pass Saturday for a four-fjae meet, opposing the Cavemen, Crater and Roseburg. First event will start at 1:30 p.m. Jotary club is sponsor. Most prognosticators favor the Itfedforditeg in the session an1 tfcey continue their groom ing for district meet contention. But the Tornado athletes, them selves, feel they'll be up against gome stout competition, particu fcrly from the host aggregation. Strong showing of the GP thin ctada in the Rogue relays and fttau third place finish last in the Haywards is the vktence. A couple of hurdle contest ants of MHS will be out of ac tion, however. Terry Hamilton is still sidelined with an ankle injury and Henry Courtney re portedly will be on a spring va cation trip. Picking Up In Discus The Tornado hasn't been a great threat so far in the discus but is reported picking up strength. Neil Plumley, the shot put star, has been casting the platter for a couple of days and may be among contenders in that event. Larry Slessler is "pulling up" in the discus event after a late start because of bas ketball play. In a number of events Med ford entry is virtually obvious. Newland isn't expected to change his 880 relay combina tion of Loren Christean, Pete Kershaw, Mike Russell and Wal ly Larson except for some very drastic reason. Newland isn't reporting his assignments completely for the meet but, with Bilbee Lane in the half-mile, Jerry Close in the broad jump, Larson in the hur dles and Eldon Francis in the javelin having won state cham pionships, - they'll be among those participating' in their fa vorite events. Ted Kluszewski Having Calcium Spot Removed Milwaukee U.R) Slugger Ted Kluszewski underwent a second deep x-ray treatment to day that may return him to the Cincinnati Hedlegs' lineup over the week end. The treatment was designed to dissolve a calcium deposit about the size of a pea in Kluszewski's left hip. The deposit has caused the big first baseman severe pain since early last season.
