Cancer Society Unit Organized in County Jackson county's first formal unit of the American Cancer so ciety was organized Friday night at a meeting in the county court house auditorium. Officers for the coming year and directors for the next three years were elected and by-laws were adopted at the organiza tional session. Officers Elected John Dellenback was elected president; Harry Skerry, first vice president; James Redden, second vice-president; Mrs. Ryd er Berg, secretary; and Robert J. Cunningham, treasurer. All of these officers, with .the excep tion of Skerry, are Medford resi dents. The following were elected to three-year terms as directors: Dr. Dwaine E. Nelson, Medford; James A. Redden, Medford; Miss France. Klink, Medford; Harry Skerry, Ashland; Mrs. Mary Reymers, Ashland; Mrs. C. E. Long, Talent; Mrs. Glen Hale, agle Point; Mrs. Ralph Bosse, Rogue River; Mrs. Earl Lawson, Medford; Mrs. Ray Frisbie, Med ford; Mrs. Earle Jossy, Eagle Point; and John R. Dellenback, Medford. Other Directors Elected to two-year director terms were Dr. E. V. Meyerding, Medford; Mrs. Howard S. Wiley, Ashland; Mrs. Ryder Berg, Medford; Everett Faber, Central Point; David Fortmiller, Ash land; the Rev. John Fuitin, Butte Falls; Mrs. Willard Huffman, Prospect; Mrs. H. R. Parrott, Jacksonville; Mrs. H. E. Nelson, Applegate; Mrs. Wilton White, Central Point; Mrs. Henry Pad gham, Medford; Mrs. B. Brandt Bartels, Medford; and Robert J. Cunningham, Medford. Elected directors for one year were Dr. R. W. Schwahn, Med ford; Mrs. L. K. Morris, Med ford; Miss Lotus M. Eaton, Med ford; the Rev. Thomas cCam- ant, Medford; George Johns, Central Point; Laurence Butler, Medford; Mrs. Katherine Stan cliff, Phoenix; Mrs. John Bald win, Talent; Mrs. Vern Wilson, Shady Cove; J. E. Collins, Med ford; Miss Bergliot J. Lersen, Medford; and Sister Reine, Sac red Heart hospital, Medford, Meeting Set Others attending the meeting were Mrs. E. Kanclier, Eugene Piazza, SisTer Rose, Dr. Robert Turner, Dr. Earl Lawson and Mrs. Nan Day. The latter three represented the Oregon division of the American Cancer society. The unit's executive commit tee, consisting of the five offic ers and chairmen of the six standing committees, will meet on Monday, April 22, and the fourth Monday of each month thereafter, according to Dellen back. A group of local individuals interested in combatting cancer have been meeting on an infor mal basis for the past several years, but this is the first formal organization of its kind in Jack son county, Dellenback pointed out. Safe Found Near Talent by Youths A safe taken from Skeeters and Skeeters garage, Talent sometime last week end was found by two Talent boys Satur day afternoon near Suncrest rd. east of Talent, according to state police. Sheriffs deputies yesterday were unable to determine if the safe had been opened. Owners of the safe, Charles L. and R. O. Skeeters, of Talent, as well as sheriffs deputies were unable to open the safe and it is not known if anything was taken from it. The deputies noted that at tempts had been made to open the safe which had been dam aged. According to deputies, the safe contained about $4 and a $30 check made out to cash. Sheriff's deputies are continu ing an investigation. Mclntire has returned to Rogue River after spending the past five months in Rich grove, Calif. bee, 5, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard A. MYRTLE WHIPPLE Rogue River The EAT hobby club met April 4 at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Smith with all members and two guests present. Visiting were Mrs. Wes Brown and her little daughter and Mrs. James Whipple. Luncheon was served by the hostess, Mrs. Smith, at 12:30 p.m. after which an exchange of hobby gifts were opened. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Magerle en tertained with dinner Sunday at their home on First street. The following guests were present: Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Sullivan of Klamath Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Magerle and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Magerle and children and Mr. and Mrs Grant Clyde and children, all of Rogue. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace LeMoine of Seattle, Wash., were recent visitors in Rogue River, calling on friends and relatives. The Le Moine's were residents here and both attended Rogue River High school. Mart Burkhart, who makes PHOENIX Family Home from Texas By LILLIAN KNIGHT Phoenix Mr. and Mrs. Vir gil Strong and daughter, Sally, returned March 31 from a two week trip to San Antonio, Texas where they visited their daugh ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Rose and their son, Craig. Mr. Rose is employed by the government in San Antonio. The Strongs visited the Carls bad Cavern in New Mexico and the Painted Desert in Arizona while on their trip. Last Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alene of Portland, old-time friends of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Arnold, were dinner guests at the Arnold home. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Morris have sold their, property on Pine street and have moved to 3867 south Pacific highway. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Flynn of Talent are the new owners and will use it as income property. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Mattern recently moved to Cody, Wyo., where Mr. Mattern will be em ployed on a cattle ranch. his home with his son Claude in Grants Pass, spent several days recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Scott and visited many of his old time friends" in Rogue River. Mrs. Esther Shock made a trip to Los Angeles April 8 where she was called by the death of two of her brothers-in-law. On March 31 Mrs. Juanita Scott entertained with a dinner in honor of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Neil Thompson, on her birthday. Other guests were Mr. Thompson and son Deen and daughter Lynn, Mrs. Belle Mart, Phil Strahan and Henry Carbin. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Inlow of Medford, visited Mr. Mow's sister, Mrs. Ambre Blayden and his uncle, Tom Wilson recently Mrs. Bernice Ames and her, Goldie Cunow, of Portland, call ed on Mrs. Carl Magerle Wednesday. Mrs. Jim Rhoten and Mrs. L. A. Miller were shopping in Medford Friday. Funeral services were held April 5 at the Church of God for Albert Dennis, whd passed away April 3 in the Josephine General hospital at Grants Pass. The Rev. C. E. Farrell officiated. Mr. Dennis was born Sept. 3, 1873, in Victor, Iowa. On Oct. 8, 1911 he was married to Lillie Milton and has been a resident of Rogue River since that time. He is survived by his widow Littlie Jane Dennis, one son, Joel, Albert, one grandchild. La Rea June, all of Rogue River; two sisters, Elsie Carpenter of Salem, and Addie Burns of Rain ier and one brother, Will, of Pasadena, Calif. Interment was in the Woodville cemetery.
